My first controller was a device that operated the train and held two 9-volt batteries.

I believe it was a lima catalogue I first saw that type of controller in (didn't realise they were a thing) but only because I didn't have any catalogues much older in the library then

The set came with a small diesel shunter, an open wagon and a closed van, and, of course, the BR brake van and an oval of track.

This was the era in which I started looking for a first train set. There were many different manufacturers of model trains. Mine was Playcraft!!

I'd never heard of playcraft until I started collecting catalogues! But then I had a foray with a hornby HST when I was a kid, and then didn't get back into the hobby about 7 years ago

Playcraft had a very limited range of locos, but an okay range of goods wagons and coaches. Please tell us about the quality of the product? l’m thinking the bo-bo diesel here?

@@csbenzo Indeed they did. If they had made different plans rather than just to sell via Woolworths, they might have made a better selection of locomotives.

I own a fair bit of Tri-ang TT however track can be temperamental if the fishplates ain't kept in good condition. Fantastic video

I'd be tempted with the hornby TT120 HST's, but like with N gauge, they're all I'd go for, just awaiting that lottery win to start down both those rocky roads. It does look a nice scale for fitting a decent amount in a small space, without being fiddly small, I enjoyed seeing some tri-ang TT at a show last year 🙂🙂
