Money is easy to get just by farming Close Combat Mock battles. Usually 2-3k a battle. Can do it on Very Easy to make the grind go faster. You can earn about 10k+ an under 10-20 mins. I currently have about 100k and I'm only on chapter 8 story battle. Swapping between Very Easy and Hard, for easier battles and also to grind for kudos, exp during the mock battles.
I disagree with going into def upgrades, Most give +1 or 2 defense which is largely negligible. Your upgrade costs scale in terms of gold/resources and sometimes resource quality so wasting precious resources on low impact def upgrades is not very useful. The reason you were losing units when trying to blitz, is because of bad positioning and likely no shutdown. If hughette is on highground and blinding 3-4 enemies (maintainable) you can be quite aggressive. If Corentin silences an enemy mage you can push the mage etc. You need damage AND shutdown to attack, raw damage alone is only enough when you have great setup. Damage dealers need the support of shutdown units to disable or reduce enemy effectiveness and the support of utility and healers. The best upgrades generally are damage upgrades and TP reduction or generating upgrades. +speed, move, evade are generally much better than +1 def. + jump is also good.
Thank you for taking the time to write out an in-depth and polite response! Always nice to see. I have some counterpoints I would like to make. Points numbered per the paragraph breaks you made in you comment, and keep in mind this video is a guide for the early game on Hard, which has informed my decision making both in the video and here. I am going to use Serenoa as a baseline here when discussing upgrades, as he's force deployed on all story chapters so will see the most use. 1. The value of an upgrade depends largely on your perspective. While you get more raw stats out of an upgrade to Serenoa's Weapon Damage, that's an upgrade that will only come into play once a turn rotation on average, twice if you're able to regularly secure at least 1 follow-up attack. A defense upgrade, on the other hand, can and likely WILL be relevant multiple times in a turn rotation as the potential for multiple attacks to be targeted against a single unit is high. This holds especially true for melee range units like Serenoa, but is less important for Archers and Mages (which are units I do believe I mentioned in the video as being much better candidates for early attack upgrades.) 2. I do hear you about issues with positioning and proper support when trying to blitz. As I'm learning the game it has become easier to support a successful push. However, my statement that enemy damage quickly outpaces your own still holds true, which means you MUST rely on shutdown abilities to blitz, and which are less reliable than I feel you portray them as. Yes, Hughette CAN blind 3-4 units at a time, however that's in an ideal scenario that assumes that you are; A. Maintaining a position where she can hit those units consistently, which is often difficult due to map design. B. Protect her from counterattacks, especially from Archers who gain bonus damage against her and Mages who are not affected by blind. C. Not getting RNG screwed by missing attacks, something that DOES happen on Hard. D. Not getting RNG screwed by Blind or other status effects simply not triggering, which does also happen regularly. It's by no means a guarantee that such supporting strategies will be viable from map to map, and even if they are, there's a lot of moving parts that could cause it to crumble. By maintaining a more defensive plan, you don't need to worry about these factors nearly as much. 3. There are very few "special" upgrades as I call them until weapon rank 2, which is where we start to see the more specific and powerful damage upgrades and TP influencing abilities that you're describing. At the start of the game, we only have access to Serenoa's first row of upgrades, which consist of Weapon Damage Up 1, HP Up 1, Phy Def Up 1, Mag Def Up 1, and Luck Up 1. While there is some variety across other units, such as Frederica's "Clear Skies, Fire Damage Up" which is a MUST buy for her, this is a pattern that is fairly consistent across the party. One, maybe two offensive upgrades, and the rest are defense upgrades. To me, this indicated the importance of getting at least 1 defensive or even "utility" based upgrade like speed or evasion first, then worry about that attack upgrade. As the game progresses and you unlock the ability to buy those fancier upgrades, yes, I agree that you should absolutely do so. But early, before they become available, I still feel it is more reliable to focus defense first per the reasons I stated in point 1.
Attack upgrades are way more important. I IF You are playing well you should be minimising the amount of times you are hit. Attack Helps REDUCE THE NUMBER ENEMIES OF FIELD WHICH WILL IN TURN reduce the amount of times you will be hit
"upgrade defense before offense" I've been prioritizing weapon upgrades this whole time for my first playthrough, no wonder my units are so squishy, smh
well i’m playing on easy and i still had roland die twice in the very first tourney battle at the very beginning of the game. not sure about the story just yet though. i’ve only fought 3 battles so far. 😂 i’m impatiently wanting to get back to the gameplay even though i want to make sure i don’t miss any important story points that will be relevant later.
