petecsm1 thanks for the comment I really appreciate it. I love finishing a job stepping back and saying I did that and am proud. I cant understand how some contractors charge so much and dont care what there installs look like. I can honestly say I under bid this job by a lot lost money, but I still would never cut corners or cost.

Nice work. I'm building my first house putting in a Navian heat only. I have a 24x36 radiant heat slab with a 12x14 radiant heat addition. I'm trying to put a parts list together it will be two zones. Can you help me. I will email you Catskill install subject matter.

...let down. I really hope the TT stands up much better then the Navien did. You couldn't pay me to take one of theose units again. Customer service has been horrid too. Anyhow, your work speaks for itself, I hope people recognize the value you bring to your installs ad you get lots of work. Beware the Naviens! Why didn't you go with just the TT prestige for DHW and Space heating?

Pete M thanks! Yeah I take pride in my work. It often gets me in some trouble. I often take it to far and it cost me money, but I can’t stand anything sloppy. If someone is paying me to perform a service I make sure they get more than expected and I make sure I don’t have to come back and do something again. I get paid to do it once not twice. I also treat my work like I choose my Drs. I want a Dr. who has a proven track record. It’s been years since I Put up any videos, but I have been considering throwing a few back up one of these days.

Marc, great job, someone that comes close to my caliber of work. Deserving of my input and expertise! The only thing I could recommend for maximum efficiency would be to install delta t pumps (Taco Viridian). Just a little more money than yor 15-58 in the grand scheme. If you haven't used these yet they work like a dream!I like Lochinvar above the prestige, personal preference though, same design basically except with Lochinvar, you get Con X Us which allows you to monitor/manage the pump from your smart device. Check this out too!

How long did this job take to finish. How much did it cost? You would never get a bid job. switches to every pump is unnecessary. valves on both sides of pump is unnecessary. labeling every wire is unnecessary. you keep saying how simple the job is but you made it much more complex than it needed to be.
@315hvac
@315hvac 9 лет назад
Ha I bid this job. I did it for 16,000. Switches yeah not necessarily needed but why not. Labeling wires saves the next guy a ton of guessing. I'm not servicing this because its a few towns away. They just called me to bid it. I was low bidder. Oh and isolation valves on both sides is the way its done. Those are flanges with built in valves. Its the norm unless your a dinosaur.

Marc Bikowsky Your customer got the bargain of the century. If I showed up for a repair, I'd know just what to do and you'd make ME money. EZ. I have never ever ever ever ever seen good work when I go out to bid jobs. Ever. Well, maybe once, but it was old work from the 50s. That's the last time workmen did good work, imo. BTW, I hear lots of trash about Naviens, but the new simple boilers are intriguing. At that price point, it's tempting... (Navien 55 NHB costs only $1500).

That's a nice install. I like the Grundfos pumps, lots of drains, valves, unions where they're needed. I'm not sure I'd wire every pump to an individual switch but hey, why not? Good solder joints, everything looks straight. Something to be proud of for sure.
@315hvac
@315hvac 9 лет назад
Yeah I do some commercial work for a engineering firm and they always spec disconnects on any motorized equipment. They even required starters on some jobs when I use bigger pumps. It gets overboard. I don't cost more money to do installs. I was lowest bidder on this job. It was really nothing big. Thanks for your kind words.

hey marc... nice clean install!! Dont see a lot of guys taking the time to provide a quality installation. I take the same approach to boiler installs.... install it as if your going to be the one coming back to service it... the more shut offs and isolation valves the better!!!... My only critiques for you would be .... stay away from Navien!!! ... a friend of mine is a local Navien rep and he is even considering getting away from them.... i would have done a Triangle Tube Smart tank for the domestic hot water... i personally think indirects are the way to go.... probly would have been cheaper for the homeowner as well... and the only thing you did that i wouldnt have was the individual electrical switches for each pump... just thought it was a little uneccessary (no offense).... and i would definately say that Triangle Tube Boilers are the best!... Went to a training seminar at Viessman in RI and liked their product but had a lot of issues with their 200 series boiler and had to have a rep out several times... Viessman is a good quality product its just not homeowner friendly.... Have to say i really like your use of your label maker!!!.... Great job

Yeah you've got that right. Drives me nuts, but most home owners don't know a good job from a bad job. They just trust that when the job is done they have heat. I loose many bids to guys that come and go. I always let people know going into a bid if they are looking for the cheap guy then its nit me. I'm not the most expensive guy. but definitely not going to be the low bidder.

I think that's a install second to none. Only comment I would make is the CSST will cause issues with the Triangle tube and the Navien. Being that they are both modulating burners... If you didn't install it, fair enough. The turbulence created inside the CSST will be a issue, when the units modulate up to high fire. Essentially choking off the units of fuel. The inside diameter of 3/4" CSST is not actually the same size as 3/4" steel pipe. Just saying it may save you a service visit down the road on ignition failure for either unit. Excellent install. The trade needs more examples of tradespeople who take pride in their work.

Should have used a LLH but just went with the manufacturers set up using closely spaced Tees. The Nevian water heater has been a nightmare. The new Nevians are much better
@315hvac
@315hvac 9 лет назад
Jay sorry wrong person. Yeah I've yet to have that issue with any units, but they are all propane so maybe it's different with natural gas. I'm not sure because all of the natural gas installs I've done require black iron (town code). Thank you though. I will consider that in the future.

Looking at installing one of these in a chilled water system to convert to a dual temp loop. Trying to decide between this, Slant fin CHS, or Lochinvar WHN. Any experience with the other two brands? Beautiful install BTW. The little touches at the end go a long ways towards a great install.

@315hvac
@315hvac 9 лет назад
I will send u a message when I get a few min. To explain it. It's easy to understand. It's basic hydraulic separation Plus everything flow controls so water can only go one way. Think of it like electricity and it flows in the path of less resistance. I'll talk in detail later. I'll also talk in layman's terms. Thanks for watching.

nice one of the cleaner setups I've seen. Would like to see schematic so i know what i need to source out. Which is better tank or tankless? and does it need to be separate or can the house hot water be connected with the system ?
@315hvac
@315hvac 8 лет назад
Thanks @Jason T. Tankless is great, but if you need a serious amount of hot water you might want to consider a indirect tank. Yup you can buy a combo boiler/domestic this particular person was going to add a outdoor wood boiler the next year so he wanted a separate domestic tankless. Not what I wanted to do but it's what he wanted.

That boiler could handle probably up to 3500 square feet. That's if its new construction. There are different size boilers for different loads. It just depends on the heat loss calculations.

Yeah it will short cycle and you don't really want that. In that case you would want to install a hydraulic separator/buffer tank. Lochinvar makes some very nice buffer tanks and hydraulic separators combos.
