Good video and I like your videos. I’m an owner operator triaxle dump driver. I’m also my own mechanic. As far as rpms go while lifting, you want to keep rpms low. I keep them about 1200 rpm. Most hydraulic pumps max rpm is 1200 rpm. 1500 probably isn’t too bad. Anything more than that creates a ton of excessive wear and burns the pump out. A new pump will not go up much faster anything above 1200. Just destroying the pump. You are a good driver
Thank you for sharing this priceless information. I just got my CDL-A and plan on dumping for a living. Watching you go through the technique eases my anxiety. ✌🏻🇺🇸
Thanks for the video! I'm starting at a dump truck company in a few days and was a little worried about it. But I've been watching your vids and it helped. Thanks!
This is awesome information. I just got my class A and I also just purchased a tri axle Mack this is what I have been doing in the yard all week. I got my first flat tire in the same week. Awesome stuff
Thanks my friend I hope more drivers like you help give new CDL triaxel dump truck driver's great tips to help all new drivers out with valuable lessons.
Thanks for the valuable info brother!! Crane Operator by trade, and ran a Hotshot business with a dually for a couple years. I'm now looking into buying 2 Tri Axle Dumps for a project. This is priceless info!!!
Good video. I, just switched from highway driving to dump truck and yesterday was my first day. Will watch more of your videos. Keep the rubber side down ;)
Me too...been in tractor trailers for 9 years but new to this and eager to learn about it all....I am also interested in the weight laws...the federal bridge law would hold me at around 60k gross even with a 5 axle dump....but I think dump trucks are exempt from the law I'm not sure...it is very confusing and not well written in the laws....i will most likely call the state...
You'll figure it out when you get a ticket LOL. My 1st job was a dump, never drove one before just got in & went.. You can only learn by doing, check your ground, watch out in sand & mud. Make sure you're level & always watch the body as it goes up,, if it leans even a little let it down SLOWLY & get level. Seen too many go over.. Every load is different. If your hauling boulders & rocks they get stuck in the front of the body, Mud or wet soil gets stuck, making the nose top heavy when you dump. Make sure your gate is closed & secured
You don't need to depress the clutch to engage or disengage the difflock. And guys leaving their dump boxes up is something i can't understand because its obv lookin in thr mirror, u gotta use those. Always get out of cab after dumping to check ur tires for rocks, and ur dump box to ensure your latch for the gate is indeed locked. Peace of mind. 👍
Thank you for the info man it was very helpful you also very humble which I appreciate if you can just please focus a little closer on the PTO and everything else I'll appreciate it thanks again man and keep making your videos you'll be surprised how many people you helping out.
1 Set the brakes, 2 Push in the clutch, lift button & engage the PTO. 3 Open tailgate, 4 Put lever in raise position. step on pedal to raise the body. As you get to the top & dirt starts to pile up on the gate Push brakes on & ease forward watching your mirrors.. When it seems the gate is clear set brakes & let the body down, lock gate & make sure PTO is off. I usually take the PTO out as soon as the body reaches full extension .
Another trick in don't know if you mentioned it is leave the PTL in the dump position so in case you forget it's on the body will not go up while you are driving to hit a bridge or whatever
There’s new controls now when you drop the bed back down the PTO comes out automatically, that’s helpful for new dump truck drivers. And also like u you said if you’re on a slight angle just raise the bed slowly and it should level out once it can’t go up anymore
I honestly don't know why they don't just have an alarm that beeps when the PTO is on...like when u don't wear ur seatbelt in ur car it beeps....they should have that feature and then have it so the driver can have the option to turn it off if they are annoyed by it....i would keep it on....safety first
Thanks for the videos brother! In starting my first job out of CDL training this Monday and it's in a Pete 379 dump truck. Any other suggestions or tips would be appreciated.
I would suggest if you have a spring suspension most of the time it adapts to most of terrain if is an air bag suspension i believe dropping yout aut bags gives you a better stability on your truck good luck and remember get as much as train as you need ask questions
Today was my first day driving a tri axle dump and I'm as green as you can be. Just came off the road from tracker trailer but wanted to know do you alway have to drop your tri axle when dumping or just when your on an angle. Thx for info and thx for tips
I drove for 43 years retired 25 of them were dump trucks & other construction trucks. i.e. Mixers, block trucks, trailers hauling concrete pipe/manholes etc,
@@Bobcat325 I got fooled by the farm across the road identical to one in Bolingbrook Illinois amazing I jumped to conclusion I am a retired freight hauler on disability but back in the 90s I did some dump work fo about two seasons tandem dump and semi dump you seem pretty knowledgeable that’s cool
Ok, there is different schools of thought on the drop axle. I see a lot of drivers use it dumping in pavers and piles. I guess I have never used it because the hoist is the problem. If the bed is leaning severe its the hoist that fails first, ita very hard to turn over a tri when the whole truck is in a consistent lean.
Good video very informative but would have liked to see the camera down on the switches that you were talking about you didn't have the camera directly on the switches you were talking about as it relates to the PTO etc
Who do you work for??? As soon as you started to pull out I knew where you were. I use to drive the Mack Tri-axle for Rand Const. That was our dump yard that he owned on 66. My wife & I ran the Riverdale Motel for 4 years & I worked for Wayne runnin' the truck , Payloader, dozer & plowing. I had to laff when I saw the road. then the Winchester Café.. Dumped a few hundred loads in that hole before they started to really fill it in to build on. We dumped everything from trees & stumps to concrete demo to dirt.. SSShHH don't tell no one. LOL
Oh yeah I remember when you guys were doing that.. Left me a pile of shit material with metal & everything in it.. LOL! I had to take that to another place in East Hampton & bury it. LOL They started to fill that in all the way to the motel. IDK if you been by there. I was running the loader pushing dirt. we had like 40 trucks hauling fill from the new FED EX site in Middletown.I moved in November of 2017 to Florida.. Retired & relaxing. It was just so funny ,, I was like I looks just like Waynes property... LOL
There’s a pin on the top of that ram. If that pin gets worn out and breaks for some reason the box will push back down and that extended heavy ram is gonna get forced forwards. It can come down through the cab. I’d be careful about how much you lean into the center of the cab
Fair enough. Lots of different truck setups and such perhaps the one my bosses friend was driving didn’t have that flange. Fully extended ram went right through the cab and his body. I’m always cautious dumping I lean to the left just in case and watch my mirrors.
I just became a dumptruck driver I’m having issues with how much I’m allowed to haul in NYS, my truck is a Mack used to be a tri axle but I guess the lift axle fell off. So all that’s left is the steers and tandem. The truck weighs 27,300 unloaded, would you happen to know off hand how much ton weight I can haul and still be legal.
I just started driving DT this week and the box was going down pretty slow today. Do you let the box down with the PTO in or out? I was trained by a new driver ... Just for one morning
Hi. Thanks for watching. Yea it doesn't matter if pto is in or out to let it down. If letting the body down and the lever is all the way in down position and its going super slow. It will need an adjustment by companys machnic.to make it go down faster.
I feel like I could operate my dads old dump truck he drove for many years from everything he taught me from going to work with him at least I didnt have to double check to see if the PTO went off there was a red light that would light up to tell ya the PTO was on heck sometimes we be driving and I would have to reset the electric tarp and all of a sudden I would hear a pop of a button and couldnt figure it out till it did it to me the first time
I stop bumping the cylinder and smacking the tailgate. Seems like it will eventually mess something up so I stopped all together. Do you have knowledge on hub seals?
Roger that. Hub seals yes add 80w90 gear lube to the full mark which would be half way point basically till it comes out of fill hole. On the two front tires. The rear tires you just check the rearend with gearlube till it comes out of fill hole.
I meant leave the up down position in the down position in case you leave the PTO engaged it will just sli I have done that before better to burn out a pto pump but usually doesnt
Hi....love your videos...very helpful....for a newbie like myself...lol....Had a question ....With the tri axle. controls...I notice a knob and gauge for adjusting the air pressure in the air bags......How much do you run in them and is it run at different air pressure for different times....thanks Kyle
With the float axle you can set the pressure on scales to get the proper amount of pressure. You only use when loaded. If you have too little air it will skip when you get on the brakes. I run 35 to 40 pounds loaded. Some people will drop the axle if its leaning badly, espicaly in a paver, I would advise not. If you are in the second stage an it starts leaning, dropping it will get you in trouble. If you're up that high some material should start moving, if so an starting to lean pit it in gear and get out from under it. That drip axle can turn you over while dumping if you are not aware on which side is leaning in relation to the slope of the ground under it. Soon as you stage out drip the pto off lower the bed with it out.
Definitely always double check mirrors and your small convex mirrors when making lane changes in city or heavily populated areas. Watch your blind sides
How many pounds per PSI on a pusher axle tri axle dump?? I'm running a KW tri-axle dual wheel push a axle . I need to know how much weight in on that axle per PSI when loaded .Can't find this answer anywhere.
@@Bobcat325 thanks. How much weight do you believe is on that axle when loaded at 80K LBS and set at 50psi? I can not find the answer and the scale house I use want measure independent axle s
I saw alot of companies saying they wanted experience mostly they wanted people who actually knows how to drive the dumping and I wish I could have seen you do some spreading you can learn on the job
I would prefer a single axle 99 international 4900 with the 466e motor in it very basic truck with no power windows every thing manual in it if you get one go with one with a ox body bed with the electric tarp I can't complain cause my dad had a dump truck that the drove for a mulch company that was the same configuration as I put above
But let's not tell everyone that when you finish dumping the load you should get out and make sure you don't have dirt and rocks on the spreader plate so when you're going down the road you aren't blowing people's windshields out. Lol
What sad is that you should add to the title older trucks, because newer trucks are easier and shitting on these fuckers, especially the one i have, also none of your tires match whats with that is your boss a cheap fuck because that'll get you tickets buddy also all truckers behind you will be blasting their horns because of your time taking so long, so add that to the mix of your video comments to give heads up to the newcomers .
