Unlike the usual stereotype of actors not getting along on set, Laurel and Hardy were the best of friends in real life. When Hardy died, Laurel was absolutely inconsolable.

Stan Laurel, after Oliver Hardy had passed away, was asked countless times by comedian Jerry Lewis to appear in one of his films. Stan Laurel refused each time politely because he made a promise to himself that if Hardy couldn't be involved he would not appear. He didn't. Stan stayed true to his promise. Partners to the end. You have to respect that.

They recently did a movie on these two called Stan and Ollie about 2018 0r 19, movie in color of course....[the two actors playing them did an excellent job]...it was about their last touring days and their wives, in the UK. The feud they had in the movie was totally made up though, they never had a fight in real life. The big man was the American Oliver Hardy, and the Skinny one is Stan Laurel from England. Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin had actually worked together in vaudeville before either of them was famous! Frankly, the characters they played, I still can't figure out which one is the dumbest HAHAHA. they also did longer movies an hour to 1 1/2 hours or so long. When they started playing their old films on TV in the 1950's and 1960's and even into the 1970's...they gained a whole new audience of new generation of kids. They were one of the few silent film stars that actually transferred to sound movies flawlessly, they had good speaking voices and personality. I used to imitate Stan Laurel in school and make the other kids laugh. A famous phrase Hardy used say a lot was "Well, Stanley, this is another nice mess you've gotten me into."
@MrDaiseymay
@MrDaiseymay Год назад
THAT, is the core of many of their best jokes. Olly is also dumb, but dosn't know it, he only thinks he's superior, because STAN is super STUPID by comparrison.

Of course you may laugh at other people’s real-life misfortunes. Sometimes poetic justice is a way to get a good laugh. Another fine mess for somebody in real life may involve seeing the funny side of it in order to cope with the consequences of it better, for the person afflicted. And that goes for the folk around him. One may laugh at one’s own real-life misfortune. And your friends and acquaintances may join in laughing too.

Some of these I am seeing for the first time but do enjoy. I like these much better than modern movie reviews. Keep an eye out, there are a lot of old movies and songs entering the public domain so copyright issues may be easier. It's hit and miss with the mid 20th century stuff. The makers of The Night of the Living Dead gained popularity because the makers forgot to put a copy mark on the film and it became free use. This mistake helped the film years down the road and most fans of classic American horror have seen it. It's one of the main reasons that zombies are such a big horror trope here.
