I have always liked fruit cake. Completely under appreciated.

I didn't like fruitcake, when I was a child. But, as an adult, I now buy it every Christmas and love it! People's tastes mature and change throughout their lives.

I'm so glad they made it there safely! I didn't know it had arrived yet!

been watching these guys since it first started and always makes me happy to see how much they enjoy all the new foods and gifts...could watch these videos all day

I grew up in the South eating homemade fruitcake and this past Christmas I made my own. It was delicious!

This is an old-fashioned type of cake that goes back to Roman times, versions developed across Europe and then spread to other parts of the world during colonial times. We have similar fruitcakes in Canada, although we only really see them during the Christmas season, and they're often topped with a layer of marzipan (sweetened almond paste). Some homemade cakes are saturated with rum or brandy or other liquor, after baking, and can remain edible for years due to the preservative qualities of the alcohol.

Fruit cake is my favorite cake!

I worked at a bakery that made fruitcake for Christmas that used no water in the recipe but instead several types of liquor. It was all fruits and nuts and no fruit peel or rind. Best fruitcake I ever ate.

My grandma made her own version of fruitcake that she called friendship cake. It took her a whole year to create the brandy of fruit that went into the cake. She kept a big hug on her counter to do it. I couldn't help crying and thinking they would alllllll really love it. :( I miss it. I miss her. It's been 21 years.

Imagine if these guys were given a tour around a cake factory and given free samples they would love it.

My mother came from German stock so she made her own version of fruit cake every Christmas. There was very little cake batter, just enough to bind all the fruit and nuts. I really didn't like it, but we all ate a little just to make her happy. Her favorite way to eat it was cut a little slab and then slowly heat in small skillet with butter (before microwaves), when hot, spread with more butter and chow down. She liked it best with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

i love a good fruitcake! it has become the butt of jokes in america, but once people taste a delicious fruitcake, all jokes go away.

A few years back I made what I'd call the "perfect fruit cake" (according to my own criteria of course!) A great balance between candied fruits, nuts and cake dough. It contained spices and molasses. Very rich cake. Unfortunately I lost the recipe ☹️ And now I can't enjoy the ordinary fruit cakes anymore...

So many people don't like fruit cake because at one time they tried a bad tasting mass produced store bought cheap fruitcake. But to have the real deal fruitcake is something thats awesome. Dried fruits not candied is the way to go. When I make them for the holidays I make one batch 3 weeks in advance and follow an old recipie and a fresh batch the day before. The difference is the 3 week old fruitcake is soaked in southern comfort bourbon. I pour some in every 2 days while in the fridge. it soaks it up like a sponge and yes does get you drunk if you eat to much. Now the fresh batch is just glazed with orange juice melted into strawberry preserves. It's child safe and Mon alchoholic.

Their sincerity, gratefulness and respect of God warms my heart.

I make my fruitcake with dried fruit-not candied-and fresh nuts. No liqour. It's good and tasty.

I love fruitcake. We eat it mostly at Christmas in Canada. My ex-mother-in-law had a really good recipe but when she died no one can replicate it! We figure she had a "secret" ingredient she left out of the recipes she wrote down for us all. 😆 I came closest when I added sour cream to the batter, because hers was super moist.

I can't think of anyone I know who would consider being given fruitcake a kindness. LOL

My grandfather used to spend months on his fruitcakes, he’d baste them every day. They were so good. There was almost no cake in it, it was just boozy nuts and fruit.

Started in America in 1870, there is a society called Shriners International, formerly known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Every Christmas, they raise funds by selling boxes of fruit cake, and it is a tradition in my family to get Shriners' fruit cake every year. It is absolutely delicious, dark, dense, rich cake packed full with dried fruits and nuts, I will have to send to send you some this December.

Good home made fruit cake is good... store bought is crap. I used to make 30+ one pound fruit cakes every Christmas. It was aged for one month with it being wrapped every week in cheese cloth soaked in brandy. It was dense, but not dry and not wet either, but perfectly in the middle and the taste was insanely better.

I am thinking they really liked the apple best. But they are always sweet hearts.

I'm writing some fan fiction, a spec script, on Mr. Tahir coming to America to try and make it as a stand up comedian while negotiating the complex nightlife of a street lit downtown Los Angeles.

I love fruitcake. Gives me an upset stomach from the candied citrus peel, but I love it anyway. Mr. C's version of heaven is filled with sweets that won't give you cavities, and you don't get fat. Of course his family will be right there by his side.

The thing about sugar is, it doesn't satisfy hunger in humans. It chemically bonds with... well look the technicalities are academic, but let me just say, sugar stymies your ability to 'feel full' and that's why you can always have a few bites of sugary dessert even when full. But it leaves you feeling 'empty' as well, and so you're 'hungry' even if you are not actually hungry. This is the properties of the addictive sugar (or even salt).

Just an FYI…. Most Americans don’t like fruitcake. We tend to give them away as gifts to get rid of them whenever someone gifts it to us. It’s a subject that most of us laugh about. 😆

Little Debbie sells more than Hostess in the states so most people have had zebra cakes, and most hate fruit cake . :)

I was surprised when Americans disparage fruitcake . It's a very expensive cake to make. Every year around October, I start baking mine. January , I start wrapping them well for freezing, enjoying them over the following months. I learned not to give any away at all after finding out Americans just use them for target practice.
