Thank you, Bob. I remember all the moms watching Betty while they ironed clothes or fixed dinner for the families. The country needs more Bettys now more than ever.

I remember watching her while growing up in Shelby. My mom always had her show on it seems. She was the epitome of class and sophistication. I bet there aren't many people in TV that did 5,000 shows. Thanks for posting this. It brought back many fond memories.

I also read her book, A Life That Mattered, and was touched by her valiant fight against cancer. She was not afraid to let the community see her go through her treatments--always with a positive attitude.

Bob, Thanks for putting these wonderful clips of your mom here for all to enjoy. They brought back fun memories of East Meck days and playing cards in your home. Are you still leaving the milk out on your table?! I remember the three kitchens in your home. Heather

For those of you who haven't read her book "A Life That Mattered", you should definitely check it out. It's at the PLCMC but I'm not sure about online (seems kind of rare) but it's definitely a great read, such an inspiration to everybody. I try to live my life now by some of the things that she talks about in her book.

I always that book should be turned into a movie. I asked directors and actresses if they would like to play her. One is Marlee Matlin and Elaine Hendrix through myspace and their agents. No response. Yet! Directors and producers have responded by saying who be interested in a lady from Charlotte, NC. I would and many others apparently.

I read in her book which talked about her kids in the set were demonstrating a food product. I think John said that the food was "yucky" in live TV and her sponsors were astonished.

My grandfather was the Editor of the Charlotte News and Observer. A writer of Satire, he was visited by President Johnson at his home. Gus died May 5th, 1974. He thought a lot of your mother. I thought You'd like to know that. I don't know how he knew her.
