@Fabian KirchgessnerIn my opinion it was smart because the French were already pissed at the Germans so there was nothing to do about that. The coronation of the Kaiser in Versailles was a prestige move and it helped to align the smaller German states with Prussia.
@Fabian Kirchgessner But it helped in the long run the states held together against the French threat even after the dissolution of the German Empire. It led to so called "Deutsch-Französische Erbfeindschaft" which harmed both sides but it held the Germans together against their strong and hostile bordering Empire of France. It wasn't the best way to do that but that was the way Bismarck chose and it had an irreversible effect on their relationship.
@Fabian Kirchgessner I think it's the right decision, it makes some sense of Proudness and Prestige to the German states inside the Empire. And the key factor that makes France hatred towards Germany anyway, is the Annexation of Alsace-lorraine, not the declaration of German Empire in Versailles.
In hindsight, it was a mistake. A mistake which led to the rise of "you know who", which subsequently made Whites fight each other, which ultimately resulted in complete destruction of White culture and identity. I do not blame Germans, it is the french and english I blame. Rest in peace Europa. And I am not even white myself.
Curiosity: During the imperial times of Germany it was very close to the empire of Brazil. The Brazilian emperor (Dom Pedro ll) and the German emperor (Wilhelm ll). They were so close that Dom Pedro ll called Wilhelm ll "buddy", apart from that at the time Germany was Brazil's main European trading partner. World war 1 should’ve never happened. This war had no enemies. Wish the German empire won though. I even have a friend from Britain who wished the UK allied with the German empire. But in all this war should have never happened millions of people died for nothing.

Nah everything after the german empire sucked hard. weimar republic was unstable the third reich is the worst thing that ever happend to the nation west germany had a good economy but is plagued by the same problems we have today. east germany (where my parents were from) was horrible. bad economy and no freedom. and todays germany has a good economy but isnt the same as t used to be so i wouldnt say that.

If only Wilhelm II had been a more competent ruler and heeded the advice of Bismarck. He should've at least put more focus into the Army instead of wasting resources trying to one-up the British Navy and their overseas empire. Pursued a continental-focused foreign policy. The great age of Europe could've lasted much longer, and eventual decolonization would've likely gone a lot more smoothly.
