A tribute to one of the most influential Bandmasters of all time. Mr. Hamp, you will never be forgotten .

i didn't go to the aug but R.I.P to hampton he set the tone for new orleans bands back in the day just showing my respect

Mr. Hampton, was not only the greatest marching band director in the history of New Orleans high schools, he was the maker of black men during troubling times. If anyone remembers our first year in the Catholic league you will remember how he taught us how to stand up to racism, with dignity, and to emerge victorious through excellence. Marching 100, 1967-1970

Today, many bands practice precision drilling. But Hampton did it first and the best, says Isaac Greggs, who for 34 years has been the acclaimed band director at Southern University. "I am a precision genius," Greggs says, "but I got into it because I saw St. Augustine."

When we express the fact that we miss someone like Mr. Hamp, it does a few things; 1st, it acknowledges how much he means to us til this very day. 2nd, it allows us to step into the past and bring forth such wonderful memories as the ones that every single band member remembers. And lastly, it shows that we all are God’s creatures made of love and humility. We’re recognizing that moment that someone like Mr. Hampton made us better than we ever thought that we could be. We remember that as young black men we were given honest praise for working hard and believing in something that was greater than any one of us individually. We remember a time when young black men trusted and believed in one another and produced a world class product together. We will forever miss Mr. Edwin H. Hampton, and we will always have our brothers of the St. Augustine Marching 100. Rise sons of the GOLD and PURPLE...

Man the more I listen to this video clip it almost brings me to tears eyes .I, listen to this almost every day I'm a graduate of St Augustine c/o 95 .Yes of course I was in the band for 4 rips thats years for those who dont no the terminology .I played the trombone at the Aug an S.U . To the person or persons that put this together good job .Ive seen alot of this footage before but some pics I have not. The band in the background sound nice I realy like that Luther song So Amazing . 1 of his bes

Yes, it's NCAT. My husband sent out many emails requesting St. Aug. music but no responses as of yet. I had this piece available and thought it was a good substitue. If anyone has St. Aug. music to share, please let me know.

A Beautiful tribute for a legendary bandmaster. Although I've been a musician all my life, I've only become aware of Mr. Hampton's legacy in recent years. I'm honored that you chose an arrangement from my band as the musical backdrop. To be affiliated with anything regarding this man's legacy is an extreme honor not to be taken lightly.

I wish I had some music to give you guys, but unfortunately everything I had was washed away by Katrina. However, you might want to reach out to Ray Johnson (ex-assistant band director), because he is the one that recorded us in the studio set up.

RIP Mr. Hamp. Can someone please tell me who is playing the medley, because if this is St. Aug I am extremely excited about the upcoming school year. These cats sound very good. In fact, I'd dare to say that they sound like a college.
