I just replaced one on a 3/4 ton dodge yesterday that had 96k on the original joints. First time I have done it in 10+ years and was confident of my ability with a hammer. I ended up admitting defeat and went back to rent the u joint tool at the parts store. What this tool does not tell you is that it installs AND removes joints in a way that a general C clamp cannot. They charge a deposit but Its absolutely worth it. I still got one of those bearing pins misaligned and it broke the rod. I picked it out and cleaned off a rod from the old bearing and it was fine. Moral, if it is 1/16” away from letting you fit the c clips back in, one bearing rod fell sideways, dont force it and just start over. 🍻
Go to O'Reilly's, now hopefully there's a competent employee that will scroll the list and grab the few it list, you should bring the former or using a mil caliper measure the dimensions. The oe one here used a plastic nylon injection to clip it instead of just clips, I can imagine it was a factory streamline to make a humans job less necessary. And also encourage dealer over independent. If it was closer to that video I'd know I have that and most of the common Diesel's joints, but the boxes disintegrated in the moisture, why I discarded and have a cabinet for parts and retained pieces that gets WD 40'd everyone awhile
Kinda sad thought 7 years used O'Reilly's more because I met some of the best part people, and maybe as a starter, filler, or stop gap job the pay would do, but seems after a year or two, no matter the enjoyment, or fulfillment received, not enough to retain my old friends, everyone but literally 4 pple 1 commercial counter, and 1 general managment other district, last guys just old works to cover the partial social sec. But I used to be so close I could check myself out, get my own parts, didn't have to rent tools just bring it back. Hell met the only chick that made me retarded, and was the worst loss right before the start of this year. I knew it wasnt real, or ... She died. Haven't really took time to miss her till now. Since initially grieved.
