I just pulled mine off thanks to this video! I had the same issue where the set screw didn't line up with the hole and couldn't be seen so i was trying to unscrew it not knowing it was in there. I didn't have a drill to use today, so i used a hacksaw and peeled back the part of the spout that was blocking the screw. Thank you! Now im off to the store to buy the replacement.

Mine was twisted as well. I had to break off parts of the spout until I could get to the set screw but the plastic on the pipe refused to come off so I had to break that part off as well until it finally came off. Good video thank you! I didn't think it should have been as hard as it was but that made sense after watching this.

Just one more thanks for the video. Same issue on my spout except the screw was almost 180 degrees around. I wasn’t exactly sure where, as I couldn’t see it but got close on the first drill and then just needed to make it wider with two more drill holes. I was actually able to pull the spout itself off, but the white plastic piece with the screw on it as well as the 4 edged piece won't come off. There's also no screw (I think it's already been removed)...
@thepenultimateninja5797
@thepenultimateninja5797 Год назад
I wish I was as lucky as you. I couldn't figure out where the set screw was, so I used my angle grinder to cut away a ring of metal at the base of the spout. I then bent the ring back and forth with pliers until it broke and I could remove it. That helped me locate and remove the set screw (which was a Philips head in my case) but the spout still wouldn't come off. I then cut the spout completely in half longitudinally so I could separate the two halves and remove it. That left the plastic part still stuck on. It would rotate quite freely, but no amount of pulling or levering could get it to budge. I ended up losing my cool and just burning it off with a blowtorch. The plastic had to almost burn away completely before it finally let go. Turns out there was a thin burr of copper where the set screw had carved a groove in the pipe. That burr was enough to prevent the plastic piece from pulling off. Whoever designed these things was an utter moron.

I gave a thumbs up because i have a stuburn spout that will not come off with a wierd allen key screw that won't turn and i have the right wrench but it striped it and i did not think drill a whole in the spout because all i have to do is turn it over and you can see the screw line with the whole it just won't turn basically it's froze in there
@umjames
@umjames 3 года назад
Did you ever get it off? I have a hex set screw that I see under the spout but it’s likely stripped or just corroded because turning it is very hard and doesn’t seem to loosen no matter how many times I think I’m turning it.
@charles9987
@charles9987 3 года назад
Yes i got it off but it wasn't with a hex set i had to call the plumber and he had to sand it off the crazy part is the ring that you put the hex screw on don't go on copper or iron pipe if you have a copper or iron pipe like i have your just suppose to screw the spout on that ring is for pvc and plastic pipes that is why my ring was stuck but i got it off
@umjames
@umjames 3 года назад
Charlie Gamer Yeah, I finally got mine off. It was on a copper pipe. Had to use a monkey wrench to twist the spout off of the plastic part inside that the pipe goes into. There was a metal ring with a stripped hex screw holding that plastic part onto the pipe. Trying to use the wrench to twist the ring to where I could easily work on it ended up breaking the ring and pulling the plastic sheath off. New spout is has a Phillips set screw, so it will be harder to strip hopefully.

There is really no need and almost every cage to replace the whole spout! My diverter was bad in my tub and shower combination in the guest bathroom, I simply unscrew the knob that you pull up and down on and let the whole diverter come out through the bottom of the spout and inserted a new diverter in and screwed the knob back on it, problem is fixed just like that! I did not need to remove the whole spout or any of that nonsense. If your diverter is bad just unscrew the knob take the diverter assembly out through the bottom of the spout stick the new one in and screw the knob back on problem is fixed! But none of these videos I’ve watched tell you the simple and easy way to take care of your diverter problem for some reason!

I initially looked through the bottom side hole that the set screw should be accessible through. When it wasn't in direct line with the hole, I peaked around with a flashlight and was able to get a rough idea where the set screw was. Then I drilled a hole and got it close enough to loosen the set screw. It may take a couple tries though.
