Trick To Remove VW Headliner Clips | VOLKSWAGEN ROOF GRAB HANDLES

The headliner Grab Handle clips on the MK7 Golf / Passats are a nightmare to release, I hate this set up. VW has a special tool to release them, costs around $90, but with a couple of pocket screwdrivers, you can release the clips also.

I don't understand where you are applying the pressure with the screwdrivers?

There's two metal clips in there. He's inserting two flathead screwdrivers, one at the very top, one at the very bottom, to squeeze the clips open. T10518A is the official VW tool for this, which is a screwdriver with a v-notch to force those clips away from the top/bottom of the opening. Hope that helps!

@@Silencio223 I got those big ones out no worries, I found it was easier to go in with one screwdriver in one side at a time, go in with the flat side and then twist and wiggle it loose and then go for the other side, when you get the trick it becomes easy, but maybe they were easy because I wasn't the first one to yank on them. But the small ones in the sun visor I couldn't budge, I ended up doing everything I needed with the headliner attached from the very front.

For anyone wondering I figured it out, its because clips got mushed out so the staple that is holding grab handle against the metal dont make contact anymore, you have to use flat head screwdrivver to stretch them out so the clips teeth will make contact again:)

No explanations at all? Horrible guide for a novice if they’re watching. Use the right tools for the job guys, metal on plastic can and will break.

You raised a good point which I agree with, which is that metal up against plastic can very easily dent the plastics. So viewers take note if doing this approach to use the tools carefully 👍 This video was filmed 6 years ago and on our first job of this style coming through. Nothing about it on the internet back then 😂, if we did an update to it these days well then our style would be to include voiceover. I think this video is great to revisit to see how the handles came off with using a couple flat heads, however there are other tools available to use for a different approach.
