Most cars? What has happened, are the modern cars so much worse than they used to be or is it that people as aren't so sensible as the used to be in my childhood. I suspect both: Cars use more electricity that they used to, not charging always enough in daily drive. People aren't themselves so involveed with maintaining their cars so the skills of maintaining batteries has also become less. With oldest simple cars you could simply take the battery inside for the night easily, if it was very cold. Sure it was inconvenient, but it worked. Using electric of gasoline powered inbuilt engine block heater helps with the engine. The conditions you experience in the Lahti region are fairly normal daily challenges in Lapland. The problem in the southern Finland is that there are less cold periods so people don't bother to be prepared enough for winter.
