【tricot】
“tricot” is a Japanese alternative rock band that was formed in the historical and cultural city of Kyoto on Sep 1, 2010.
The band develops an unusual and distinctive sound that consists of harmonization of pop and emotional vocals with a complex rhythm. The members are not familiar with math rock and such harmonization is not created on purpose.
“tricot” has been to many places around the world and successfully held a total of 109 shows overseas through 3 Asia tours, 2 Europe tours including a supporting act for Pixies in the UK, US tours and UK tours. Their concert events are often sold-out and tricot is active throughout the world as musicians.

I don't think they don't like it, they just never made music with the intention of being labeled as math rock since apparently they weren't aware of such genre before, they started making music describing themself as alternative rock band. I suppose they get asked a lot of question about math rock (especially lately when the math rock genre started getting known more) that's why they felt the need to put that they aren't familar with it in the description . Their use of odd times, rhythme and time changes in their songs was something that came out naturally as their style and was not something they intentionally seeked to do.

Yeh. Music sites/zines/critics are trying to lump them into that subgenre of music. As far as the band is concerned they could give a shit. They just started writing music that 'flowed' (for lack of a better term) with the way they expressed themselves as a rock band. Ever just write something or play something because it's 'there' and you just go for it and not think about form, structure, melody, harmony or whatever? That's what they seem to be trying to do with their work. It can really GO ANYWHERE. And that's what I and others like about them. They can and do anything they want with their music. It's awesome.

I hear it. To be fair, they’ve written a really challenging vocal part. I imagine this tune live will frequently be hit or miss. There was a live recording of this on a Japanese tv show recently where Ikkyu’s vocals were a little more on pitch.

I absolutely love Tricot & started listening to them about 4 years ago & they've never disappointed me. Until now. I hope this bit of noise is something they needed to get out of their system & isn't any indication of a newer direction in their songwriting. It sounds a bit like they've been listening to too much crap rock from America. I hope they haven't been influenced by A&R lawyers and attempting to sell out for money. Tricot has a wonderful & distinct sound & style but this sounds like them trying to add cookie cutter metal garbage to their wonderful & unique musical banquet. IMHO...

I think the noise is awesome. it'd be boring if they kept sticking to the same sound. they've switched their sound between albums quite dramatically, so I wouldn't be too worried.

Fuck that, bro. This is GREAT. It reminds me of some of the post-punk NY style bands of the early 1980's -- Screaming Headless Torsos, Vernon Reid, Black Rock Coalition, even the Ramones (but with clean, great vocals). It's cool as hell and is, I think, just ONE part of their sound. They will do what they want and that's the main reason I love them.

they are a very imaginative band that will never stop trying new things. it's fair that you aren't a fan of this one, but please dont speak so harshly of it because of your own personal taste. it is a great composition that is as compelling as most of their discography so far. what's the point in sticking the same sound for your entire musical career?
