Trier is a city in southwestern Germany in the Moselle wine region. It is located near the border with Luxembourg and was founded by the Romans. Several structures from that era are well preserved here, including the Porta Nigra gate, the ruins of Roman baths, an amphitheater near the city center, and a stone bridge over the Moselle River. The Archaeological Museum houses Roman artifacts. Trier has many Catholic churches, with the Trier Cathedral being particularly noteworthy.
