MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT:
Your forearms contain flexor muscles that allow you to bend your fingers. Long cord-like structures called tendons connect these muscles to the bones in your fingers and thumb. A tunnel of tissue called a tendon sheath surrounds each tendon. This allows the tendon to glide smoothly as the fingers move. The sheath is held in place by bands of tissue called pulleys. They hold the tendon close to the bone for optimal functioning of the tendon. When your flexor muscles contract, the pulleys help guide the tendons to flex or bend your fingers. Normally, the tendons glide smoothly through the pulleys when the fingers flex and extend. Trigger finger also known as trigger thumb or stenosing tenosynovitis is a condition where the pulley at the base of your finger becomes inflamed and swollen. This makes it harder for the tendon to move through the pulley. Over time, the tendon may also swell and form a bump near the pulley. When you bend your finger, the swollen area on the tendon may cause a catching or triggering sensation as it initially gets hung on the pulley and then slips underneath. If not treated, the tendon may swell enough that it cannot pass beneath the pulley. As a result, your finger may get stuck in a bent position. If you have trigger finger, you may have one or more of the following symptoms, a tender lump on your palm at the base of your finger, a catching, popping or locking sensation when you move your finger and pain when you bend or straighten your finger. The cause of trigger finger isn't known but some conditions that can increase your risk for it include diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and repeated injuries. Forceful and repetitive hand gripping may also increase your risk. To treat mild trigger finger, your doctor may advise you to rest your hand and avoid activities that make it worse. Your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory medication or a corticosteroid injection to reduce the swelling. You may also need to wear a finger splint to keep your fingers straight. If nonsurgical treatments haven't worked, your doctor may advise you to have a surgical procedure. To start the procedure, your surgeon will make a small incision in your palm. Then the pulley will be cut to free the tendon. At the end of the procedure, your incision may be closed with stitches and covered with a soft bandage. To find out more about trigger finger, talk to your healthcare provider.

Well you have to remember that these things are very tough and regenerate very quickly, so small damages tend to recover before another appears. So its not super delicate and it's able to regenerate. There isn't much to worry about, if you eat relatively well and make sure you get the vitamins and nutrients your body needs.

Shit, this recommendation is quite godsend. I work on construction and one day, my ring finger just got stuck like on the video. Every morning, it's quite hard to move it that sometimes I have to straighten it using my other hand for a few times, it hurts a bit but not so much, it's just like when you pop/click your fingers too much, but I can move it painlessly after an hour or so, of course the triggering is still there but just weaker. I had a break for a few weeks and yes, the triggering lightens and it doesn't hurt anymore every morning. Looks like resting does help and I'm really glad for it after watching this video

Luckily once it started happening I took rest days until my hands were able to recover. It’s definitely a weird feeling, we also call it morning finger wood

I had this condition probably from me trying to break a block of ice by smashing it to a wall. My right thumb was stiff and couldn't straighten out much if i keep it in a bent position for long and have to physically pull my thumb straight til it pops and it'd be sore for minutes before i could regain a full range of motion with it. So when i sleep or doing nothing in particular that involves using the thumb, i put a makeshift splint out of popsicle sticks and rubberbands to keep them straight and only remove them when i need to write something. It took like two months for my thumb to recover.

@logantrashh7781
@logantrashh7781 2 года назад
Most of the bodies functions are ok as a rough idea but with robots, we can use whatever material we want and build it however we want. Humans are a certain way through evolution but, that doesn't mean it's the most practical way. For example, the way this video shows the finger to be structured isn't necessarily a bad idea but it isn't necessarily the best option when creating a robot.

Also, Generalist VS specialist Human body was made to conquer daily challenge/obstacle they will have plus the ability to adapt too, while robot usually made for a specific task that might need different design to achieve effectivity and efficiency

Wow, those are both very good points. Robots have other material and design options, but versatility adaptability are concerns. Very true.

I've had as long as I can remember a locking sensation on my left middle finger when I try to fully close my hand but never with any pain/swelling nor has it gotten worse over the decades so I just tend to forget about it. Nice to know there's a name for that tho.

Have this in the middle finger of both hands. I suspect it comes from working out with dumbells over the years and the tight grip required on the heavy ones. Recently had a shot in each hand for this. Definetly helped.

@@coolerthanafrieza4726 the shot or trigger finger? A shot is a shot, no big deal. Trigger finger itself? Sometimes YES depending on the severity. If its to the point where you have to manually straighten the finger with your other hand, it does hurt somewhat.

I’ve always wondered why my left hand is weird. My left pinky and ring finger lock up and make a pop every time I close them. Doesn’t hurt and only effects closing not opening. Has never effected me, just always been a fun party trick to show off how my fingers can lock up and make a loud clicking sounds as it seemingly pops in and out of place (or at least that’s what I thought before seeing this video).

I know this comment is a little old but I get this sometimes with my index finger. pre-bending the finger with the other hand without using the muscle and then I just flex and pull the muscle in that finger and it just gets unstuck.

I probably have a very mild version of this, when I close my index finger it clicks at the base, it also occasionally feels as if it's being slightly caught. Probably caused by excessive mouse clicking and holding a badminton racquet wrong.
