Who is to blame for the state of trucking right now? Is it the youtubers who talked too much about how good trucking is or how to make money in trucking? Is it the freight brokers who price gouge? Is it the carriers who haul cheap freight? Or is it the shippers who are not paying?

Social media truckers that made videos saying. You can buy a semi truck and get put here and make 20k a week at the beginning of thr pandemic but knew nothing about trucking or expenses related to it. You had guys go and buy 500k plus mileage cascadias for $200k. Now that truck has over a million miles and is worth 20k but the buyer still owes 160k on the loan so they gotta haul whatever at any rate in hopes to make payments and avoid a repo.

Now drivers have some blame. 1. Social media truck drivers or some of the biggest promoter of competition... Mega carry is literally do not promote as much to a General audience the social media truck drivers... so they are huge factor in oversaturation.. 2. Truck drivers scammed other truck drivers into getting trucks in regards to scam I mean bad financial information. Now you have a bunch of truck drivers they thought they were great businessman and women because the rates were good. now struggling so bad they have to take low Freight to stay afloat.. 3. Truck drivers that do illegal driving also help the rates stay low... they are willing to do things such as driving team loads solo and allowing their clocks to get changed... giving these companies less reasons to not take low rates... in legitimate companies have to compete with companies that do stuff like this... and it's only possible because of the drivers. 4. The lack of unity and Cutthroat behavior of drivers is one of the biggest reasons we solely need truck drivers and trucking companies to go out of business for rates to go back up... because whatever load one truck company won't take another struggling company will.

Those bills don't stop and the low rates are affecting my bottom line. But what option do I have to not take the low paying loads? Decline the loads and let everything else whither and die? Go under? A _Union of Independent Truckers_ sounds counterintuitive. You can’t be Independent if y’all are a union. Everybody’s gonna be getting paid the same, or paid on a schedule according to seniority, and people will still complain about it because one person thinks they’re worth more than the other person. And then you have Union Dues. Most people got into being owner operators to avoid being under an umbrella. It could work though if people were smart. You could have a better quality of life. Broker are making 70% off one load is crazy and they’re probably giving it all to the same carriers so hopefully it forces thoose carriers into the negative eventually. Also carriers that have been around for 20+ years have significantly lower costs but pay a ton in maintenance and breakdowns. Once brokers start seeing their loads not make it onto e will shippers continue using the same trucks ? Miranda keep up the great work ❤

First of all, I absolutely love your content because of the way you break things down and your wonderful personality so I hope you don't allow anyone discourage you from continuing to post. You are a gem. Secondly, I believe blaming "youtubers" or small operators is short-sighted and misplaced anger. These conditions, I think, have more to do with geopolitical issues around the world that are affecting the supply chain, and the obstacles created by the major trucking companies who, for many years, have intentionally weakened the small guys by pushing for laws that made it harder and more expensive for them to operate all while consolidating the industry because they can do it cheaper. Other owners taking cheaper freight because they want to keep rolling has always been going on so that falls on its head. And blaming "youtubers" such as yourself is very counterproductive in my view because I genuinely think you are actually doing the opposite by educating the owners on navigating the web of obstacles they are forced to face. I don't know if you realize it or not, but I think what you're doing is very noble and necessary. Keep up the good work!

The FMCSA needs to set strict rules for brokers and shippers on how much they pay carriers. Anything less than $2.50 per mile isn't fair. Brokers should pay carriers at least $2.50 per mile, and shippers should pay brokers no less than $2.70 per mile. These rules will ensure fairness for everyone involved, brokers, shippers, and carriers .This way carriers and brokers will not go out of business .

Your statement is condoning the very problem with this entire industry. Freight brokers need to be taken out of the equation. Collective effort needs to be created to do this. But technology will be the fastest pathway to do this. AI can easily have multiple data bases of shippers that pay a nominal monthly fee to access a multiple database of truckers and carriers based on a first come first serve basis and on pricing. There's no longer a middle man. That 2.50 rate you're talking about could conceivably be closer to somewhere north of 3.50 to 4.00 without a broker per mile? Intermediaries and brokers in just about every industry have created similar problems. You look at the mortgage industry, mergers and acquisition, real estate brokers and realtors. Artificial intelligence is coming and it can't get here fast enough.
@evaelena
@evaelena 3 месяца назад
@@NormVW2013 It's true that eliminating brokers could streamline operations and possibly increase rates. When I mentioned $2.50 per mile, it was just an example. Critical thinking would suggest that truckers who treat each load as if it was paying twice as much ,pick up on time deliver on time ,no damage,act as if it was a load of eggs,be respectful to shipper receiver and broker,and expect direct shipping loads to beg for your truck...basic good will...in other words EARN RESPECT...😮thumbs 👍 for your information

Spoke to logistics Analyst from John Deere in the southeast region... He told me their cost of shipping has inly gone up from 2023 to 2024. When I told him what we were hauling his loads for, he went berserk really angered. We do 100+ loads for them yearly, and the rate per mile has been cut by half since 2023 december. Broker are gouging like crazy. Insider at one of the brokers that combines partials into "ftl" told me its been their best month per commission since she started working there back in 2018.

@@MS-oz2wu What the shipper COULD DO is bypass the broker and deal directly with that carrier for the 100 loads/per, maybe splitting the difference. Is non-compete language in the brokerage agreement enforced in that jurisdiction? The answer might depend on who bribes the politicians and regulators in a more effective way. In any case, your hush hush advice is the worst. Even if the shipper keeps 90% of his new found savings, at least the carrier is getting 10% more.

Whenever there’s an organized strike, there’s always that guy that says, “if everyone is striking, I’m going to go out there and reap the profits“. Unfortunately, everyone thinks the exact same thing… And everyone goes to work, and nothing ever gets done. We are our own worst enemies in this industry.

Whatever people want to think, keep doing your videos. You collect and diffuse data. Data is what I need to take decisions. So, having your data is very helpful as I try to read between the lines. I believe that the freight volume being what it is for the logistics available (trucks), the shippers can leverage that to get cheap freight rates. If there was pressure because freight needed to be moved for the economy to function (demand) the freight rates would go up. Since the economy at this time makes that, buying groceries and paying for rent and services have increased such that any discretionary spending is not supported by household income. So the goodies that would need to be transported to satisfy that discretionary spending that does not exist at this time, makes for the low volume on the board. Stores are not stocking goods, inventories are kept at a minimum, the cost of money is high, so the freight volume is low, thus cheap. It's a sad situation for truckers... when income rises above strict minimum or cost of living decreases freeing current income levels, freight rates will go up.

I have been doing trucking for almost 6 years now. We always go to blame brokers and shippers whenever the market goes down! But the reality is trucking industry itself is to be blamed. No unions, no set of rules and regulations on driving licenses, who can drive or buy a truck. A person with 6 months old license is buying a truck, some people never got class C license before getting A classs. When people like these come into market it’s bad for everyone. Having setup of companies operation outside the country , getting the job done in Pennys automatically brings the market down. There is so much scam in this industry now. Shippers and brokers and finding alternative ways, which are much cheaper and more reliable. There has been significant increase in train shipping. Rather than making stupid rules like ELD, DEF IN TRUCKS, no idle, putting bunch of sensors in trucks , they need to make rules that can save this industry. Right now there are just so many unwanted people in this industry who are making money on other people expense and bringing this market down for everyone. I still remember the time when we were recognized as the essential workers but now it’s just whatever.

The only thing I can do is offer a solution to make the pain go away. That solution is for the industry to come together and leverage their assets. A simple nudge in the right direction. If you are buying or own your own equipment, then you have already positioned yourself for maximum growth potential. That is the difference between us and the top 1%, we are not smart enough or confident enough to leverage our assets (make a snap decision in quarter 2 to offset a bad first quarter to ensure year end expectations are met). Question, where would we be now if we had made a snap decision in quarter 2 of 2022? The current trend will not reverse itself. It is your job as the business owner to make the right decisions (hard decisions) to ensure that your business is successful. Working harder and not smarter has never been the solution and never will be. We have the power. Decide to utilize your power collectively (leverage your assets).

8:37-9:30 sums it up. No one wants to acknowledge the fact that in business, there will always be competition. Your competitors are going to do just that...compete. The customer is going to always try to save money. The only exception...If you, as the business owner, have a loyal client base. A lot of owner-ops think we are still in the days when we had unions..."Pay us more or we'll go on strike". Those days are gone folks. We have to rely on good business sense. Cut costs where you can, and be strategic in how you move. I can't tell anyone what that would look like for them. It comes down to your personal and professional goals.

@ChampHTX Not the ghost of Jimmy Hoffa 🤣🤣 Having a truck doesn't entitle a client...broker or shipper, to pay top dollar to the carrier. The owner-ops that are complaining about the rates, are those that are way in over their head in expenses (truck/trailer leasing, extravagant living, etc.). These are the same people that will get a job, live above their means, and complain about their wages. Can't expect the employer to compensate you for poor financial stewardship.

People go into business with out a plan and no strategic advantage and they are puzzled by why they aren’t making money. When she talks about revenue the numbers sound bad and she’s right things aren’t great. Here’s the thing. Would you rather have revenue up buy 10% but lose money or would you rather have revenue down 10% but record profits. My company is down a few percent on revenue but they are making money than they ever have. Here’s my point. Don’t trade money with people. If the load doesn’t pay just don’t pull it.

Believe it or not, it's the same reason as of 2007 2008 recession: risky lending practices. Starting in 2021 carriers significantly increased their capacity. I know carriers that went from 2 to 10 trucks in one year, or from 15 to 80 trucks in a couple of years. Who made this possible? The Lenders. I also heard that many carriers took advantage of the cheap government loans, which many accessed fraudulently, so thank your government for that!

OK, I accept your terms, and I choose the NOT BELIEVE OPTION. Dealer finance rates on trucks are and have been sky high. Their lease programs are an absolute rip off: pay very nearly the entire purchase price over four years (on a truck they try to make all think is a masterwork, good for ten), after which they own the residual.

Best part in all of that, back home most have paid off or inherited properties that do NOT have property taxes, utilities only and cable service. So that is the reason American drivers will never be able to compete or hope for better rates! Even with $1.60 or $1.70, he makes more then president overthere, whick is about $3k to 4k per month! Yet it is that very 2021 and 2022 reference point that so many truckers seem to be looking back at nostalgically. How do you explain? More to the point, WHAT IS A REASONABLE EXPECTATION FOR LEASE OPERATORS signed on with a carrier? A half dozen people at my present carrier spoke of $15K / month (180K / year) AFTER EXPENSES, except income tax and self-employment tax (FICA). In this 2023/2024 timeframe, I am seeing about HALF THAT. An overpriced, leased power unit accounts for much less than half of the difference. Clowns talking about breaking out on their own seem to forget that contract freight pays a wide margin more than is paid on the spot market. And how much success do Independents have in obtaining a roster of contract freight?

People don't realize that every load they deliver at a loss they are driving $50k or more closer to a truck overhaul but all I know is 1/2 the time I get over $3 per Mile and most people carriers consider a shipper is actually not the person who actually owns that load it's the manufacturer we need to get to but most loads per ton are issued out to certain people before they come off the cargo ships. Expl the person who is giving a load of frozen from Europe to brokers is not actually who owns the product and dispatchers and carriers don't even understand that a shipping location or warehouse is just a place they store the product most of them have nothing to do with the load they just load and unload the product only a warehouse with the same name is the actual owner of that load.
