I thought I was trippin. Marauder always been my dream car being from Detroit. I got one for 14k in 2018. I daily drove it for 3 years. I Sold it in 2021. I now drive a 2007 police interceptor I got for $1350. It's better in almost every way except looks which I am working on now..I wish I Saved My 12k and built a Crown Vic.
My guy nobody is upset you got rid of your Marauder. It's you downplaying it with misinformation. You keep saying stock Marauder vs stock p71.... You completely gutted the crown vic, put wider wheels and tires along with a drop in filter lmao. You did a 1/8 mile race and even admitted the Marauder would still win in the 1/4 mile. And you talk as if that 50hp difference is nothing over the crown vic. Everyone knows it's difficult to get power out of those 2v motors without boost so that 50hp is actually a big deal because even full bolt ons might not net you 50hp on a 2v. Stock for stock no other panther car is beating a Marauder. And a p71 with a Marty tune still isn't walking a Marauder lmao. Stop setting people up for failure with misinformation. Mine was taken care of throughout his whole life and definitely is a step above my Vics. These damn cars are not race cars. The marauder is nothing special and with how much they cost, unless you are going to keep it stock or "tastefully mod" (unless you get one cheap) to keep it's value for the same initial price you can have a badass crown vic with all the bits that make a Marauder appealing and gobs faster. Of course at the end of the day you do still have a crown vic but cars are not a investment for ROI especially anywhere near the price territory we are talking. What’s crazy to me is that you compare the gutted p71 to a full interior bone stock merc and say it’s slower and all that. I’m pretty sure the timing boards in the drag race you did told a different story than the win light. You had a bone drag racer who can’t even react to when the tree drops to run next to you. Compare the two cars in both stock forms to be completely bias before you talk about the other. I own neither and I lost respect for you with this horrible comparison. But since you want compare apples to oranges. Take a base RT charger set up like your new magnum and run them down the track and I guess you will be looking to get rid of the magnum for the same reason. Point being don’t shut down the marauder like it didn’t give you what it owed you and have your following think the marauder is truly slower than a stock P71 by a long shot when it’s not.

Justify selling the marauder all you want, but it's a much nicer car than any crown Vic. Also, you raced them in an 1/8 mile track. You can tell the Marauder was reeling in the Vic and might have caught it towards the end of a 1/4 mile race. A 4v shines in the upper rpm.
I am modding my second Grand Marquis and I can say this. I would have never sold it. While the Marauder is an LX Sport with a better engine I would never had traded it for Chrysler. Even if it is faster. The rarity and potential it has when modified alone makes it a keeper. If anything I would have bought the Magnum as a daily and kept working on the Marauder. Besides a modified Crown Vic with a bunch of weight reduction it's going to beat a stock fully loaded Marauder in a quarter mile anyway. If they had the same weight the Marauder would have smoked it.

I have honestly always thought this. The only time I ever wanted a Marauder is in 2004 when my foster dad was looking at a Mercury Mountaineer I got to sit in a brand new one and the leather seats were amazing
It’s nots that it’s overhyped, it’s just so rare and somewhat hard to acquire, just the fact knowing u got to even sit in it is an accomplishment,knowing in the back of your head you got to drive car from a brand that doesn’t exist anymore and a model that lasted 2 years and theirs a high probability that neither will come back is the reason why the marauder gets so much love,especially for the price gouging going on with them, something about the overall design and overall package just really made it special the logos, blacked out everything,the floor shifter, special badges and embellishments,the leather jacket(if you care),(P.S.still wish you woulda owned it for a little longer(like a year and a half or 2) and did some more content on it tho)
Problem though is it was honestly nothing special and can easily be replicated. can build a much better car out of a vic then you would buy a marauder for. I got the 2 things I like from the marauder, Center console (granted could have got a LX one, and A spoiler (factory not repop) FYI the town car seats are nicer!

One big plus for the MM: the seats. The MM's seats are comfortable enough for a day-long drive (and the '04s are heated), whereas the P71's seats are like a wooden park bench. Doesn't matter whether the P71 has the Street Appearance Package, or the regular crosshatch cloth - the construction's the same, and man, is it hard on the back. I drove 9C1 copcars for years, and Chevy designed the HD police seats for all-day comfort, but the P71? Forget it!
If you take the seat back apart(unzip both sides) you can actually remove the thing that makes them hard on your back. My ‘11 P7B was about to be sold immediately after getting it street legal for that same reason. Those “lumbar supports” are draconian at best and made for cops wearing armor plates.

No way I would have traded the marauder for that big grasshopper. I don't understand what people keep trying to make a marauder out to be. Its just what the Impala is to the caprice. I still get excited when I see a marauder on the road. I see crown Vic sports as well but they don't bring me the same excitement.
Yeah but the impala SS was actually a real performance difference vs the Caprice. Marauders are still pretty slow and just like Mr. Random said, you can take just about any panther car from a similar era and make it faster with almost nothing.
@@Kuson2 Really, how so? Caprice and Impala both had the LT1. The performance differences are on par with each other's vanilla models given the parts bins availabilities and price point at the time. Doing the almost nothing to the Marauder can wake up the car that much more as well, let alone the 4v being a better platform for further mods.
The 2v has a better torque curve than the 4v..if you were to do a roll race I believe the results would be different…This is coming from a happy 2v owner…The GT will beat most early 4v off the line until about the ent of 3rd when the 4v starts pulling in the 2v…In other words the 2v has more more torque at a lower rpm but the 4v has the power up at the mid to top of the rpm range..
But a marauder tuned would be faster than that and gutted it would be faster than that Vic but I do agree with you, I would’ve made the trade as well for the magnum RT just as rare just as quick more room more practicality
Okay I want to address a couple things firstly the 4.6L 4v engine is all aluminum (400 lbs) and carries a 86 lbs weight savings over a stock 1992 to 2011 cast iron block (486 lbs) 4.6L 2v. These are both complete engines from oil pan to throttle body with water pumps. His car was so hacked together that business that he bought the car from was a parts selling company for panthers he saw those four Marauders and pilfered the parts off of them look the Marauder specific side trim gauge pod the non replaceable tinted tail lights and back up light/trunk tail panel. They probably took the og head light of and replaced them with cheap aftermarket ones. I’m willing to bet that this car no longer has the 3.55 track lock rear differential. I actually want to see the vin number because I suspect that it’s a clone a lousy one at that. Yeas I know there is a 4v under the hood. They could have taken a iron block 4.6 and put a set of 4v heads intake and timing cover on it and it would be one very underperforming dawg of a motor because 2v motors have dished pistons and the 4v has flattop pistons. It could have a actual 4v motor but we’ll never know. In the last almost nine years of owning a real 2003 Mercury Marauder my favorite past time is pulling up next to s197 4.6 3v mustangs and stomping big mud holes in the side of them!😅 And that’s even before I installed 4.10 rear gears! They are much faster than a cvpi.
Well, fiist why didn't you put the chip in the 2003 marauder? Next, the transmissions are not the same as the 2003 and your crown vic. Next, your vic has a plastic intake and the marauder all case aluminum. The marauder hands down has a stock one of a kind rear suspension. The vic has no traction bars, and most don't have air suspension. Now, put that same chip in the 2003 marauder and watch that stall speed convertor come alive! Damn cut the top off that vic and the marauder will still beat it in the 1/4 mile! I hate people who do this! Look, it comes down to the quality of the car! That's why you pay 10,000 for a real sports model then a crown vic that needs a new intake ever 75,000 miles and possibly of blowing it up! No marauder will ever do that! Why you can find crown vics all day long for $1500, shit you can ever find a good real bumper for less than $2500, again, the.marauder will always sell for over $10,000 and rising! I can buy crown vics all day for 500 to 1,000 dollars! I'll be able to retire off the 5 I own now! What will you get for 5 crown vics? Dude with all due respect that is the very reason why the Mercury Marauder exist in first place it is based on the plant panther platform and yes the car was a two-year deal a 2003 or 2004 run this car was a send-off to the panther bought it was not meant to be a top-of-the-line model of the existing Mercury Marquis you were going to find many pieces and parts of this car that have been transplanted from a crown Victoria or regular Grand Marquis. What's particularly special about this car is the engine itself you have a 4.6 liter 3 valve per cylinder dual overhead cam V8 engine. The same type of engine that you would get from a mustang Mach 1 of that era. And also other specialty cars as well. And I thank you under appreciate it this car for what it really truly is a very unique and special car however this Marauder clearly is special and unique and it will go up in value if you probably take care of it
You can do what you want, but your justification is flawed. The Marauder is not "over hyped." That's an insult to those who own a Marauder and you shouldn't be surprised when you get hate for your comment.
The thing that makes the marauder so good is that it's a Crown Vic. One reason the Vic is better, 2v engine is superior. I've had many cobra's and a couple marauders and a mark viii I loved and the 4v is a good engine but the 4v engine isn't as good for those that modify Vic's. Stock 4v is quicker, gets decent mileage but they're not as durable. The 2v just handles boost better and will outlast the 4v. Nothing that comes on the Marauder is anything that I wouldn't want to change so it's a waste as the suspension is going to get changed, the first thing I'm doing is pulling the automatic for a TR 3650 or T45 manual or building a beastly automatic if that's your thing. I prefer the manual and its very easy to manual swap a CV, so to me and most people that will be modifying their Crown Vic, which I'm basically in the process of doing everyday and have been for years and will be for years to come, It's a waste of money to pay more for a Marauder. The floor shifter and the four valve engine are the only things cool about it aside from a couple pieces of plastic. Those pieces of plastic are easily put on your Crown Vic If you like that look. However, I would say the Marauder is the way to go if you plan to leave the car stock. It's the best looking and performing car on this platform in stock form. If you plan to modify the car then find a cheap clean Crown Vic, forget about options or whether the transmission is any good, anything of that nature. Find a Vic that's rust-free, so one from down south. Every little thing on the car is so cheap and easy to change so all you need is one with a good body and in my case I was looking for one that had nice paint to begin with because I prefer to do any major paintwork after most of the performance modifications are done. Now I wouldn't pass up buying a Marauder if it was real cheap as long as it's rust-free and the quarter panels are straight etc etc, but I wouldn't pay extra. If I bought the Marauder it would be because it had a bad engine or transmission and just a good platform to start with. As far as trading for a Dodge, well that's definitely not something that I would recommend. It's a unibody car like everything else nowadays so it's nowhere near as strong of a platform as the Panthers. Chrysler's in general have a bad reputation and they've earned it. The hemi makes good power for sure but it just can't be compared to the panther platform. It's your car and as long as you're happy with it that's all that matters. I would be willing to bet that eventually you'll see the light and come back to the Crown Vics. Time will tell

bro thanks for the video, im happy with having a 4V Mark VIII, the car that started the modular 4V movement. i can put a 4V in any one of my cars and save more money, i always wanted one just to add to my panther collection. in fact i may find another LX sport and drop a 4V in it and change the bumpers and header panel to be a marauder clone very easy. bro you did what you had to do and i still rock with you because your channel got me started on my panther collection.
If you change your mind I got a marauder you can buy in south Carolina .no trades though I don't want that magnum I got plenty of p71's and chargers already .my wife went and bought a new challenger scat pack 485 HP straight off the lot last summer. I own I 2003 marauder and I love it and would never get rid of it no matter what.... but I think you brought the car for the wrong reason.... and this is why I say that for starters it's definitely a collectors car and two they only made $11,052 of them so it's definitely worth something to keep and then on top of that yes we all can argue that is nothing more than a Crown Vic LX sport but what made the marauder stand out was the motor which is a 4-valve motor that we all know and that's what made it a very good power plant to have because you can build it and get the desired horsepower you wanted out of it regardless that it didn't come stock with a lot of horsepower the motor is still one of the best power plants today and I say that because we know the Cobra Mustang has definitely song the world and the car industry that they can make a lot of power out of that 4.6 4V... now this is the million dollar question if it would have came from Factory with a supercharger would you have sold it... 🤔 I believe the answer to that is no.. so the reason why you really sold it seems clear to me and that's because you didn't want to invest in it but wanted to try it to get a feel to see what it was like owning one and when the hype ran down u sold it🤷♂️... Tail lights and reverse lights are not the same as a crown vic. Marauders come smoked from the factory - just saying. For someone who has panthers already, it could be a disappointment. They are great cars. I own 2. Of course you can make a Crown Vic slightly less slow as a marauder. Part of the appeal of a marauder is the exclusivity and rarity. He probably got rid of it to make content about it.

I never owned the marauder but I have owned the vic lx sport. I loved the lx sport, it was always mistaken for a marauder. I had a few mods such as mds coils, k&n, and an exhaust. It definitely had plenty of power for me anyway. I was always told the 3 valve in the marauder had flaws and the sohc 4.6 was better for its reliability. If I have any regrets it was selling it cause i definitely miss it today.
By this logic no performance American trim is special. Because most mustangs have similar styles. Most Camaros have a similar styles. And god help us if we mention dodge who haven't updated the car in over a decade. Oh and the Impala SS where it has the exact same hints to it's trim as the marauder. Since the marauder was the "response" to that SS. And idk why you question winning when your car was stripped 💀
I mean... I don't know what else you expected, it has always been a Grand Marquis with a better engine and a sportier suspension. Sure, as an used car it doesn't make sense if you're only looking at it from a dollar/performance perspective. The extra price is mainly because of the low production.
I think it isn't about what the Marauder is as a car in a physical sense but more of a car that is so awesome because what it stands for and what it is. The Marauder is very much iconic because the car represents history, it wasn't common for manufacturers to continue making a special model of a platform. The 2000-2008 range didnt really have a lot of cool American cars. Yes there are some but no there isn't many and it was a 2 year only thing. Every Panther owner appreciates the Marauder as a top tier version of what they like.

Imo all a Marauder is nothing more then a LX Sport with a Mustang rear bumper, a GM front end, some fancy rims, and a "better" engine. In my opinion, ford should have left it as a LX Sport, but gave it the Lightning motor and called it an SVT Victoria (Because Crown sounds more luxurious and less sporty then SVT)

Appreciate this video. I always wanted a marauder but after i just bought this 02 grand Marquis Lse. For half the price im content. I swap it with a 5.0 and come out better than a marauder.
I understand your logic, but the potential of the Marauder exceeds the vic. You could have done a budget Eaton swap and make 450 to 500 hp on stock internals, or forged internals and handle 600 to 700hp boosted . High mileage Marauders are selling for 15k low mileage for 20 to 30k. I see a crown vic every day. I rarely see a Marauder. You traded a dime for a penny. The Magnum does not have the same unicorn or collectors car status. From a RU-vid video standpoint the trade makes sense because the 4.6 in the vic and the 5.7 hemi are more mainstream engines so people can follow your mods and get info from your builds.
problem is, the buy in price for a Marauder is so much higher, the upsides to the performance potential is offset by a lot. Besides, do you really want to molest something thats worth so much in its stock form? I think the Marauder is in that weird spot. It doesn't really offer anything special in stock form, and it costs a lot to get a hold of in the 1st place and if you're just gonna swap out and change everything anyways you could do that on an old vic for less money. You could do a coyote motor swap on an old P71 for less than the cost of most marauders.
@Kuson2 A coyote swap is expensive. The cost of install. The wiring harness is 2k alone plus new drive shaft and new transmission. With a tune and gears and a CAI the Marauder would have been as fast as the Magnum.
@@Kuson2 The special about the Marauder is the rarity. Vics are a dime a dozen, millions produced while only slightly under 12k Marauders were made. Sure the performance and asthetic differences are not night and day, but they are there. The 4v is a better mod platform but besides the point, at the end of the day 99% of ICE cars are obsolete in terms of performance with nearly any electric car now a days.
This is in no way meant to be hateful. But I feel like it’s definitely a lesson learned,and going forward it’s best to purchase vehicles based on what you enjoy. And not to be rude however did you truly expect anything different when it comes to the marauder? I say this because the panther platform was designed for elderly people first, sure the marauder was an attempt to get younger buyers but at its core it was a grandpa car. And I love panthers don’t get me wrong, but to really appreciate these cars you have to acknowledge that they’re just big boats for old people first.
You are absolutely correct. I bleed Ford Blue, and it always frustrated me that Ford put zero effort into the Panther Platform. Truth is, Ford was trying to get rid of the Panther Platform for over a decade. It never got any of the latest tech or drive train. The 5.4L 2V should've been an option, at least in the police cars, and the Marauder should've got a 5.4L 4V. You need cubes for heavy cars. I could go on, but I digress. Chrysler did a lot better job lettin' their nuts hang.😎

Don't know why people are giving you crap about it. I was finally able to get the Marauder. Most people don't know what it is. Is it special, depends on the person. I personally love it, but my 302 swapped crown victoria feels faster and that's with it not running right. The only difference between the LX and the Marauder is literally the engine, some body panels, the Marauder instrument cluster, silver trim and gauge pods. All of which that can be taken care of or a variation done.
Sounds like he was making himself feel better and i havent seen a healthy marauder or a non worn out one for 10k so probably wasnt fully up to par i know my 03 with marty tune and 4:10s ears up 5.0 stangs all the time and i just ordered my adtr supercharger kit and adtr full suspening ans stainlessworks long tubes and full exhasust all being shipped to moes speed shop where theyvwill install and dyno tune as well as but the proper stall in it yes i drove crowns for many years as a law enforcement officer and always wanted a marauder and finally foumd one now building to be a true animal stick was a big big difference from any of my work cars so lile i said yours must not have been too healthy
Bro your right no hate here. It's the look and with little changes the vic is quick. I had a 07 p71 that burnt tires when I got on it. Now I have a 06 civilian model with 355 gears throttle body spacer. Aluminum driveshaft modified air box Marty tune coming with h pipe. An I pretty happy with 2500 stall converter. I'm a mechanic an it runs great.
I owned an immaculate, low mileage 2004 Marauder for a few years and rarely drove it. Sold Marauder off to an excellent home just as the values began to rise in 2020. No. 1 draw for me? Styling - nothing else like it. Major drawbacks? Lack of good power and mediocre brakes at best. Marauder's motor was clearly better suited for the 700 lb lighter Mustang Mach 1, and still not a powerhouse even in the Mach 1 application. Many Marauder owners also own Mopar cars, and will tell you a 3.6L Pentastar car will run a way from a stock/near stock Marauder. A 2020 Chrysler 300S 5.7L replaced my Marauder - a far more modern, up to date car, hands down. Same was true when the 300C was revealed back in late 2004. Still, I'm attracted to the Marauder styling. A shame FoMoCo cheaped out on the car's development. If I'm ever able to build my own 'halo car' (restomod) Marauder, the styling would remain stock while the drivetrain and interior would be moderately updated. A Roushcharged 5.0 with a 10R80 for starters.... I'm a big fan of the Dodge Magnum RTs and SRTs too - pretty much any Mopar LX - LH car. Last LX - LH car rolled off the Brampton, ON assembly line just before Christmas 2023. They will be missed too.
You would change your mind if you drove a supercharged Marauder. Mine runs 12.2s with 4.10 gears... It's the way they should have come from the factory.
Everybody's has different likes and dislikes, as long as you're satisfied with your choice, nothing else really matters. I purchased 2019 Taurus Limited...but some people strongly suggested I should have purchased 2019 Taurus SHO, to each their own.

LTC seats are much nicer, and they should have used the LTC dash at least. That is what I want to build is a turbo town car L. It is not a cobra motor, It is the same as a Aviator and a Mach 1. That is the biggest turn off of the car, Just like the "harley f150s" at that time, The internals aren't even forged! I love my panthers but I do want myself a magnum. I would probably LS swap it lol.... or wait for it.. GODZILLA!
The Marauder was overrated and pointless, even after they put a 300hp engine in it, it was still slow af because it was heavy and the gears were too high. Not hating here - from the perspective of practical comparisons I’m sure you’re right but you’re too young to have an appreciation for what the Mercury line was back in the day. This revival was like a time machine so basically it was priceless. Enjoy the trade‼️
I might not be 100% with this but I believe that merc is an upper brand of Ford, so most mercs should be a very high specd Ford models. A mountaineer for instance, is an explorer but with leather interior, v8 awd etc. So the lowest specd mountaineer will be leagues above the lowest specd explorer
Let's be realistic, it's a bit silly to buy any old car and complain about performance now a days as modern cars, like electrics will always be faster. The people getting into 20+ year old cars generally are buying for the cool factor, comfort, simplicity and nostalgia. If you look at the difference between a Marauder and a Crown vic of the time, it is on par with what was available from the parts bin and the difference in price between them. Realize the Marauder(really the 90s impala) paved the way for more affordable performance sedans in the years to follow by Cadillac, Chevy, Dodge, Jaguar, etc as there really was nothing other than spending $100k plus on the big boy german luxury sedans. Sure it could have been supercharged from factory, but then the pricetag would have been at least another $10k and it was barely approved for production as is. Personally, I'm glad the program went through and the NA 4V was selected being a way better mod platform to make some more power if desired. I have driven all panther platform generations/models and can honestly say the Marauder is the best combination in terms of grunt, comfort, steering feel, styling and glorious when you add some boost in the mix.
I've owned two cvpi's, both got totaled sadly. Where I would love to own another and give it some of the marauders flair(and dohc 4.6) I don't hold it against you for getting rid of the marauder. I prefer the cheaper of the two myself(mostly cause I'm poor. Lolz)
You kind of waste that your time showing comparisons between the Crown Vic and the marauder. Nobody buys a Marauder for the interior. Everybody buys it for what's under the hood. That is if you got the 6.0 LS. If you paid $10,000 for anything less than you got ripped off
I understand disappointment. I raced my 79 Corvette with grocery go getter engine against my Bronco with a shoe horned, warmed over 460 in it. The Bronco won and the stylish but uncomfortable Corvette was sold.
Its just a Crown vic in black with a badge marketing scheme don't let people who don't know anything about anything get you down man that magnum will be WAY more fun than that old C'vic
You weren't meant for the Marauder. You would have had a field day in my old supercharged Marauder. It rode great, got good gas mileage and would run Vettes and Mustangs all day long. BTW, the taillights were not the same as the Ford's.
It's a car love my 2002 grand marquise and my 94 crown vic but yeah they are all the same. Great starter V8 for anyone tho. Rather mod something newer and more powerfull
i agree i bought my 07 p71 with a marauder interior and exterior swap done to it with not completed tho. it as i believe all mustangs bolt-ons, 4-10 gears, jmod, i got the parts marauder included in the deal needs a new frame. having a marauder is over priced for what it is

With it being 18 years or so of age it’s probably for the best. Had myself a town car 2011 but fuck did that thing eat gas shit.. not a road trip car lol
