If only they had trigger warnings during calculus. To this day, when I even think about the area under a curve, I start to cry. It gives me nightmares every night. I can't hold a job unless I only have to apply algebra. My relationships have suffered deeply because visions of differential equations haunt me every day. Cutting and burning myself with cigarettes help, but the burn holes only remind me of pi, that irrational number of 3.14. I just don't see a way out. I look to linear algebra for help.

When they graduate, will students be trigger warned about everything going on in life? Will bosses warn them about anything about to go on in any discussion. This female guest may have a point about students who have been raped. However, if these students come to college SO UNPREPARED IN LIFE they need trigger warnings about any subject, they aren't mature enough to be in college. Professors in college that coddle students, protecting them from word and subjects, are turning them into babies. Administrators seem to give in to the politically correct all the time, some even firing professors students don't like. Since I doubt these demanding students have ever worked full time and been responsible for ALL their bills, they have no right to demand a professor is fired. My neighbor's daughter is a student at Boston College. She has a backpack with an American flag about 3" wide on the top flap. She was told not to bring it to class because a Muslim student complained that she felt uncomfortable seeing the flag in class. She was told that if she failed to comply there would be disciplinary action. She was cornered by a group of a dozen or so Muslim students and threatened. Campus security escorted her off campus and warned her not to cause problems. His daughter is withdrawing from Boston College as quickly as possible while maintaining her grade average. She is giving up an academic full ride scholarship. She is successfully transferring to MIT and continuing her math/physics work. She was terrified by those Muslim students and the way that security treated her.
I went to a UK comprehensive school in the 70s/80s. No such thing as trigger warnings or emotional welfare officers. The cane was alive and well and if you were late for school you were paraded on the stage in front of other students by the sadistic PE teacher and bullying was effectively ignored by the system... Yep, times have changed!!

i like the idea of trigger warnings because of what she said. like if students have been through sexual abuse then they would handle it in any manner they choose while the other students just watch or read about it. the college should also teach that you will need to be prepared for real life situations and non-existing trigger warnings. that's my opinion and I'm not changing it although i will read replies to my OC(original comment)
I can recall having a classmate who had such a sheltered upbringing that if one of God knows how many topics came up in class, within a matter of seconds she'd be literally foaming at the mouth, and she'd start screaming matches with both other students and professors. Everyone in the History department dubbed her 'Triggerella'. After I transferred to another university, there was apparently an incident where she got so freaked out about something that she punched another student in the mouth right in the middle of a lecture...and was later expelled.
Something I think nobody talks about is the fact you could easily skip class with this, whos stopping people from just saying OO I HAVE A TWIGGER WAWNING IN MATH WAAA and leaving campus for the day?
If you want to warn someone prior of potentially controversal subjects (aka Trigger warnings), do whatever you like, but it should not be mandatory. Does seem to shelter people too much, makes more sense for pre-college kids. A good point they make though is that this is not something you'd see in real life, and if by college you aren't prepared to handle controversal topics, or learning, you will have a harder time adjusting to the real world. A potential negative is it could bias people to the upcoming content.

In high school I was a skinny 6 foot tall 125 pound male homosexual. I got made fun of and fucked with a lot. After high school I discovered the joy of weightlifting and put on 50 pounds of muscle and today nobody fucks with me or calls me a fag. Ever! Dont accept the victim mentality or people will always treat you like one. They will treat you as someone to be felt sorry for or further victimized. It seems that this lady does not provide a syllabus online for the protentional students or they do not read the syllabus. OK, bak in the University, I also did not read all the syllabuses especially when it is a must course any way. But, they will not read the "Trigger Warning" list as well. You just make a new document derivable from Syllabus, well in my experience this a both fools errand and a job for "I have nothing to do" person. By the way, who gets a trauma during the university lecture except health sector related lectures where you examine a cadaver, sorry too late now you enrolled to "general surgery".

It is not the School Professors responsibility to give trigger warnings. Life is full of trauma and triggers. It is the Parents Responsibility to prepare the child for life. That is their job. It sounds like Parents are not preparing children for life. Put the blame where it belongs, irresponsible parenting.

I am tall, 194 cm (must be around 6'4'', I think). Even though I am fat and obviously out of shape, I get a lot of people (taxi drivers and the like) asking me if I play basket ball. I am not black. I do not think those people ask me if I play basket ball just for being black since I am not black. They do not ask because I am in shape since I am not in shape. But they ask because I am tall. I doubt they would be asking short black guys if they play basket ball. But if they are talking to a tall black guy (or a tall guy of any race), I am sure they would very likely ask the basket ball question.
We should have it set up like a Amber alert all society alerted when someone is triggered we all can be offended and in our feelings and disagree still at the end of the day
It's treating students as children not adults. We are graduating generations of children not ready for a life that doesn't come with a trigger warning.
