Another valuable scientific experiment, wonder if the actual plant will die off? This also might be a clever way to shift snakes out of the garden, they might be able to detect the stepped electrical potential in the ground and decide to clear out.
There was actually a guy trying to promote this as a gardening product a long time ago. It would have been so dangerous in the wrong hands. At the moment there's a company selling a scaled up version for killing weeds on fields, that is basically a generator and reverse fed pole pig on a trailer. Everything about it just oozes impending death when farmers get over familiar with it.
It is a lethal experiment when you don't know what you do Clive, you are spot on. Important to know where your Earth electrode is for the return path back to the source of the MOT's in this case. The plant-box I used looks pretty dead at the moment, I will keep an eye on it if the weed roots have expired.
Wondering if a thin knife as an electrode would perform better. Also, maybe 1-2 stages of voltage multiplier will improve things due to the capacitance and quick discharges that might "explode" the blades of grass instead of burning them through Either way, it's probably not gonna replace a weed whacker, even ignoring safety.
As someone suggested, I want to see this upgraded to the max! More power, more voltage, and a sharp knife blade, as @Basement-Science suggested, can it EXPLODE the weeds :D
Kinda like me. I stun flies with an electric fly swatter then use a flyback transformer ZVS driver combo (basically my own arc lighter) to set the same fly on fire to really finish it off. I can probably use the same arc ligher for weeds but clocked at 20V (since it relies on a 9V battery).
