I grew up in Detroit and every year when I was a kid, there was a Trinidad band that would perform at the State Fair. It was life-changing. Truly some of the most joyous sounds you'll ever hear.
Usually I don’t like comments like this, it doesn’t make sense to me to call music life changing. But Steel pan is the one instrument that I did something to my brain the first time I heard it live as a kid, it really does make one of the most joyous sounds you’ll ever hear
@@haysfordays"Life changing" is not an exaggeration. I totally understand what you are saying... even to those of us who grew up with and are used to the music, we still find it absolutely " life changing ".
Is it not amazing how they took the bottoms of discarded fifty-gallon drums and turned them into one of the world's greatest-sounding instruments of all time? Another amazing thing that was born of the minds of those in poverty. I am not surprised in the least that it affected Jimmy Buffett's music positively.
Magnificent show of talent and togetherness! Trinidad politicians take note and stop with the divisiveness. Truly marvelous! Seeing in 2023 and still relevant!!!
Go to Trinidad before Carnival when they have the band competition leading up Carnival. It’s unbelievable! I was there in the 60’s when they got their independence and then in 64-65 at the Marine barracks. Experienced two carnivals down there. It was great 😂
Mitzie dos Santos was just thinking that it would create revenue that would help the youth going to school and university. It should be an internal affair
i love the original a little more. i wished there could be a movie about this. Even though it may not be true; it could be about a steel band side and a tassa group practicing close together around carnival time at a time when people are talking about uniting the races. And while a tenor player is practicing, he stops and the tassa sound falls exactly in place, then they look for each other and build the composition
