You're right, you don't need a big bike to go on a trip. I went up and down the east coast on Dyna with no windshield or bags before I got the Road Glide. You have some nice roads up there. It's been awhile since I've ridden up that way.

Do you have a video showing a coolant flush and replace? Just got an 07 with only 12k miles and am wanting to do all the routine maintenance. I know the coolant hasn’t had that many miles on it but I’m guessing it hasn’t been changed ever. Judging by the guy I got it off of didn’t change the front tire in the 6 years / 6k miles he put on it. Even if you don’t hVe a video, have u ever changed/topped off the coolant? If so what kind did u replace it with? I’ve seen Preston’s 50/50 extended life recommended in one place and Peak Asian Vehicles 50/50 in another. Other than those 2 I can find basically no info about what coolant to put in it.

Hello, I don’t have a video on doing a coolant flush , but can help you with the process. 1 . You will want to download the service manual which can be found either on Facebook vstar 1300 group or on the vstar1300 wiki. A quick google search brings up both. When I filled I did use green anti freeze , but I believe the bike came stock with blue. I’ve use autozone 50/50 green , Preston’s 50/50 green with no issues. To drain , I pull the seat pull the 2bolts at the bottom of the tank and then I can slide the tank back gently a bit. This will allow me to see the radiator cap. Then I take off the cap. Now I can go to the bottom of the radiator and pull the bolt. When I pull the bolt I try to make sure I get the thin washer that is between the bolt and the radiator frame. Then let the fluid drain on to the container. Once that drains then I can put the bolt back in if I’m gonna do a vinegar flush then I would proceed to add distilled vinegar and distilled water. Run then drain. After this I’ll replace the bolt in the radiator. Tighten but not he man it. Then fill with the 50/50 mix I bought. Then run the bike for a bit and let the air bubbles bleed through the system. You can rev the motor just a little to help circulate the air through the system. Then top off whatever is lost. Replace cap , replace tank , replace bolts , replace seat. Hopefully I didn’t miss anything.

@@dbest1aVlogs awesome! Thank you for the detailed response. I just put the new front tire back on last night but have at least another 10 days of cold and/or rain here in Indiana… so I might as well get the coolant done since I can’t ride anyway. I appreciate the write up

A lot of people take their sport bikes on long trips. Now I took my first bike, a sportster, on a long trip and it was tough on me coming home. I was so sore. I upgraded my bike not long after that trip and it made all of the difference. It was the seat on that sportster and I didn’t have foot pegs, so had nothing to put my feet on to stretch my legs. Wasn’t necessarily the bike.

Nowadays, our V Star 1300 is considered a "midsize" cruiser, but just 20 years ago it would have been considered a big bike, and 40 years ago riders would cross the continent on 350cc standards. If you stay off the Interstates, most any bike is perfectly capable, but the smaller machines are scary when big rigs and high speeds are involved. And just a quick FYI: the aspect ratio refers to the tire's height as a percentage of the width, so a 180/70 is actually 18mm taller than a 180/65. That 70-series should eliminate a large amount of your speedo error...took mine down to about 5%.
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 2 года назад
I did actually mention about the speedo correction. I used a tire size calculator to see the differences in tires from 170/70 180/65 n 180/70. I'm most likely gonna try the 180/70 to see how it goes. The speedo error can be annoying. Granted I keep it in mind while riding , especially if someone is behind me.

I run the Shinko Journeys(because I need to use radials and I'll be damned if I'm paying for Cobra Chromes) on the Vic, good tires but there is NO WAY to you're getting 18-20k miles out of a rear ...just no way. BTW: that wasn't a BRAAAAP... you'll need a 2stroke for that 🤣😂
@dbest1aVlogs
@dbest1aVlogs 2 года назад
Lol. Yeah my last c2 I got 18k with 3mm left to the wear bars. Only changed due to taking a trip. These (2nd set) right now are at about 18k .. have about 3mm to wear bars.
@painsrides3616
@painsrides3616 2 года назад
@@dbest1aVlogs That's impressive mileage.. The Journeys are good for about 8k miles on the rear...Believe it or not, I'd be lucky to get 7k miles out of a Cobra.

Man the great tire debate, lol. I say stick with the Commander II. To get that mileage is amazing. I'm going with speedo healer to fix my speedometer instead of messing with tire sizes since we have that oddball oem size. Have a good and safe Halloween!

@dbest1aVlogs 2 года назад
They are all oddball sizes lol. The mileage is nice 18k plus, but you just have to be sure to get in there and regressed the axle and spline bearings at maybe 10k or so. Still I had to replace all the rear end bearings after 46k. Not bad. The c2 mileage is amazing, but after a while it begins to flat spot. I never use up all the tread.
