TRIP REPORT | American Airlines - 737 800 - Sacramento (SMF) to Phoenix (PHX) | First Class

some new tid bits about SMF: gate A11 is back in operation (you can see in this video during taxi its just a hole on the side of the terminal with not jet bridge), note gate B4's jet bridge is higher than the others for HA's A332 service, the AS 738 sitting on the remote stand sits there for almost 17hrs as it comes in at 7pm the evening prior from KOA and doesn't leave until 12pm the next day to KOA, and runway 16L/34R is back in operation so no more long taxi times as shown in this video. not sure why AS has that plane sitting there so long, but they could probably make good use out of it maybe in the morning round trip to SAN/SEA/PDX prior to the KOA flight.

Looks like you had a good experience. Wish I could say the same for my son and his family. After 410 days at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, he returned home a few days before they were to fly out of Denver to Baltimore. I was flying to Baltimore on Southwest to meet them and spend Christmas together before they all leave for Germany. He is being stationed there for 4 years. Repeated calls to AA to confirm that the large kennel would be allowed on the flight were met with assurances that it was acceptable. Fast forward to Denver International. They get to the counter to check luggage and are told that the large kennel is too big and does not meet the size restrictions. Conversations with agent at the counter, management, anybody from AA who might be able to help were fruitless. They were denied boarding and it took 3 hours to find a rental to drive almost 1,700 miles to Baltimore. He will not be reimbursed for the almost $2,000 for the van rental (it was one of only two vehicles left for rent). Gas reimbursement is only 18 cents per mile. He may get reimbursement for lodging, but food most likely will not be reimbursed, either. I was forced to cancel my flight and got to spend Christmas alone. If I don't use the credit from my trip cancellation I will lose my $400. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, but I have not seen my son in over 2 years. They have spent the last 3 days driving and my granddaughters are spending Christmas day in a van as they make the final leg of the trip. This was our last chance to be together before they leave for 4 years. If this is how American Airlines treats a man with 19 years of service to his country in the USAF (those years have included multiple deployments to the Middle East where he saw combat and lost friends), it's no wonder most people hate the airline. I know my story is not the first of its kind, but to be lied to repeatedly and then spend 3 days driving across the country with his wife and two young daughters, and their dogs is not a very merry Christmas.

But so sad to see the changes taking place at American Airlines specially since the take over by " Cactus Air " "Moonshine Airways " America West/ US Airways many of the perks within their fleet such as the entertainment systems are going to be something from the past and cramping more seats in cattle class more generic than ever before!!
