Welcome to another trip report!
On May 24, I flew on an ex-AirTran 717-200 from Los Angeles International Airport to Sacramento International Airport. I was upgraded to First Class for free due to my Delta Silver Medalion Status.

Wow! Pleasantly surprised to see the B717 still in service these days. As a side note, I love the look and feel of the Sacramento airport. Easy to navigate, quiet, and great for layovers. Oakland and San Francisco can feel like midtown Manhattan during rush hour. Thanks so much for sharing...

wow SMF looks so busy now with the rapid growth over the last few years. And sad to see the 717 is no longer flying to SMF at the time of this post as that flight has been up-gauged to a 737-800. Hopefully it will make a return soon!

Love your trip reports as always! I flew Hawaiian airlines Boeing 717 from Maui to Oahu with my class for a 3 day trip! It was really fun. That was a trip that I will never forget and now I’m in Middle school!

This airplane reminds me the old DC-9's. My dad worked for Aeromexico for more than 22 years. We flew many times in those planes (DC-9 15, 30 and MD-80). Great video. Greetings from Toronto.

Love Delta and their 717s! I used to fly them every week for work between ORD and LGA. Delta Shuttle has upgraded service like free alcoholic drinks. With the power ports easily accessible in each seat plus a 5 abreast configuration, DL was way better than any crammed 737 UAL or AA was flying on the route. Plus I have SkyClub lounge access and the Shuttle gate is right next to the LGA SkyClub. ORD’s SkyClub could use an update- more than anything it’s just too small.

Made the trip from Los Angeles (well actually Burbank) to Sacramento many times when I was a child on the old PSA airline usually on 727's. Back then Jerry Brown was Governor (first time around before rerunning much later in life) but refused to fly first class, made his security detail very unhappy but he felt he should be couch with the average passengers. My dad sat next to him a couple of times making those trips but not on the trips I was on. I have flow every incarnation of the DC-9 family (DC-9, MD-80's, MD-90) except for the 717. Hopefully will fly one before they are retired.

I flew a DL 717 in Comfort+ from ATL to ORD back in March. There were additional crew on board because there were some flight attendants in training.

That was nice....You don't find too many 717s being worked here on the US or mainland...I know that Hawaiian Airlines uses the 717 for their island hopping...I am glad you flew safely....

Aloha! I regularly fly B717s on Hawaiian Air's inter-island flights. It's a neat aircraft for short flights. In the last couple of years, I've booked "first" class because of no baggage fees and other perks. I often have to haul big boxes for relatives. The ticket price works out to be about the same as riding in the back, all fees considered, if I plan the flight time and day carefully. I must say, though, knocking back a "free" beer or two on a 25 - 35 minute inter-island flight can lead to wicked burping. Still, if I buy a high priced ticket, I'm going to take advantage of every perk. I've learned to never sit in Row 1 on a B717 if at all possible. A hui hou no Hawai'i Nei!

Vast contrast in noise level at LAX vs SMF,guessing your flight was one of the last for the day,had I been upgraded to FC on a 717,I would've been frustrated--I'd prefer to be close to those RR engines. Looking ahead,since you're flying to MSP on Sun Country,wouldn't be surprised if you meet up with that 'girlfriend',the one who seems to have a dominant personality and takes command of your camera.Looking forward to that footage

If you do, you should look at either 747-400, 787-9 or A350 routes I flew on there A330 Economy and was not good In November the A340s are being retired so I recommend going on that first then the other ones!!

2:36 they weren’t only airTran’s. northwest also flew them, and i believe delta had some of their own. most of them are certainly ex-airtran though

Jack Ziegler Northwest never had any 717’s, I think you are talking about the DC-9’s Delta got after the merger, the DC-9 looks quite a lot like the 717
