{Trip Report} - LAX to Grand Rapids in AllegiantExtra 

Yeah, they serve this route seasonally. A lot easier than connecting and much better than O’Hare 🙂

Yeah, this would definitely make the trip cheaper. But, even with the 7hr connection I warn of booking a trip with separate airlines in case one of them cancels or delays a lot . Seats are thin, it’s Allegiant and there is no recline

@@GerardiAviation yeah, with allegiant only flying twice a week to LAX if allegiant cancels the flight I'm screwed for CI7. It's a thought experiment and I might want to try it for fun (well if i have the cash to anyway, LOLMEMEZ), but I won't be doing this for something bigger like a family trip where I need to stay in Taiwan and enter taiwanese soil from TPE. I guess being in the mitten my best option might be either Delta (going through their DTW/SEA hubs or connecting in Japan or Korea with CI or KE respectively) or the EVA Air direct flight from Chicago. Delta is cheaper but EVA air would be the most expensive out of all my options. I am aware of separate booking though, but hopefully there is no cancelation on either side. For the way back from Taiwan, I believe I have plenty of time as I would be spending the night at LAX arriving in the CI evening flight before the morning Allegiant flight, but on the way from Grand Rapids to LAX that's where things can go wrong. I should have ample time normally but if there's a delay at least I need a two hour buffer between Allegiant and China Airlines. (I did check the schedule, between Allegiant and CI I have a 8 hour buffer). If Allegiant cancels the flight, that's where I'm screwed. Recently my dad took my mom to OHare on the EVA Air flight. I wouldn't recommend my family do the allegiant/CI pair but if I was traveling solo I might give it a try. Overall I might have no luck with flying CI unless if I make a connection in the asian continent. I got pretty lucky last year with the CI flight from LAX since me and my dad drove from Michigan to LA to see a friend. We took the return flight on CI and then had separate bookings on American Airlines back to Michigan with a morning layover in ohare. I don't think this will happen anytime soon (bc now we're broke, and even if we aren't a trip back to Taiwan to see my grandparents is very, very costly and likely we would have to choose delta or EVA air for such a trip)

It’s the same but in reverse, and longer going west. That’s why I didn’t do the round trip

It felt a little longer, but it might’ve been because of the humidity
