That Nordhavn looks more comfortable than a house. Now I understand why most everyone who buys a Nordhavn sell their houses and move onto their Nordhavns. Do you have 1 or 2 alternators on the main engine? Is there an alternator on the wing engine? Even a first-time passenger on a boat could sleep well at night with your captain at the helm. You are such a nice couple, thanks for the enjoyable videos.
@havaseas
@havaseas 2 года назад
Sometimes I forget that I am on a boat because it just feels like home. We have 2 alternators on the main engine. The main engine has a second alternator to charge the house batter bank and thruster battery banks. The wing and generator each have their own alternator to charge a dedicated start battery. I feel safe with Eric at the helm too, but he almost go thrown overboard while we tried to answer your alternator question. ;)

Great shopping and putting away all that stuff. Here's a trick with bread and rolls that I use to get "nearly" all the air out of the food saver bags. Before you take the air out, put the breat/rolls (whatever) in the food savor bags then freeze them. Once they are rock hard frozen remove the air. That way you won't crush the rolls, bread etc. Works great.
@havaseas

Thank you! Great idea. I do that for cupcakes but didn’t think about that for bread.

Very cool video! Love the aircraft shots! I'm a retired airline pilot so.... I appreciate the provisioning stuff! I wish more would do a thorough provisioning video. It's needed so that novices can really understand what to expect. There was a N72, can't remember the boat name, but they showed going to Costco and a meat market, then how she managed all the storage. With electronic excel sheets to track where everything was stored. I soak it all in for when we get out Nordhavn. Thank you for showing us this stuff!
@havaseas
@havaseas 2 года назад
I am going to have to go track down that video. I started to make a spreadsheet, but that isn’t how I think so it wasn’t working for me. I plan to do something with that downstairs pantry so that I can see everything. I also watched and read the provisioning vlogs and blogs before we bought. It’s been easy so far. It will be foreign countries that could get me more creative.

Kudos for your video. Adding a little more local color (maybe more descriptive about the areas you're moving in), thoughts about the "why" of boat life (you have "how" down) and what your personal take is on the day. I wouldn't try to involve Eric in conversation on video- he obviously doesn't seem to appreciate it. Your personality shines through though ... hope you keep it up!

Hey hey! New sub! I loved this vid. I hope Eric becomes a little more animated, but I get it. You don’t buy this caliber of boat, and cruise these North western waters because you “just love to be around people” - this type of boating is not for everyone. I’m dying to begin my adventure! I’m looking at a 37’ Nordic tug this coming weekend. It’s here, in eastern Canada, so it’s a “window shopping” trip for me. The seller knows, but is being gracious enough to give me some time. I’ll be a serious buyer in the spring of 2022 after moving to British Columbia after Christmas. We have a “well to do” daughter in Langley, a B.C. Hydro exec. who will house us until our live-aboard is purchased. I want a true passage maker, as I’ll be sailing similar waters, and have the Sea of Cortez as a bucket lister, too! You have a beautiful home/boat! Looking forward to exploring your channel as part of my “education “ Peace (forgot to mention that we will be accompanied by our two Yorkies, Gracie and Pearl!)
@havaseas
@havaseas 2 года назад
I really like Nordic tugs! They seem similar in layout to our boat. I read Eric your post and he says, “buy a boat!” I wish you the best on your journey. Enjoy the process. We are trying to learn that this is not a race but a journey. You are correct that Eric is a bit of a loner. What you see is just his personality. He does love hearing the comments from people, though. Your pups will most likely love the boat!

Halibut and potatoes is that Alaskan for fish and chips
@havaseas
@havaseas 2 года назад
I consider deep fried halibut and fries the fish and chips. This is a healthier easier version. I cut up chunks of halibut, dip them in olive oil, then roll them in a mixture of bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. The potatoes are cut up and mixed in a olive oil and Johnies seasoning mix. They are then baked at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. I need to start putting recipes or links to recipes in my comment sections. Thank you for asking the question.
@wa210
@wa210 Год назад
Try marinating some fish overnight in olive oil, lemon juice, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, i also cut up fresh onion, and sesame oil. Saute on frying pan, or could grill. Pour over white rice with extra juice if left in pan. I at times add dried parsly flakes and if you have them sauteed mushrooms.

Your comment has me thinking…. For years I used a crockpot while I was working and the kids were in sports. Since I am not working and have more time I tend to have more fun cooking. However… for some reason I don’t enjoy cooking as much after a long run. I think I might try using the crockpot on those days so I am not having to resort to my frozen emergency meals. Since we are running I won’t need to worry about the pull of electricity on the batteries. Thank you so much for your question to make me think thru this idea! I will give it a try! I did bring the crockpot with us!

As someone fortunate enough to have traveled across the globe as a merchant mariner (and being from Norway with our own unique seaboard), there's not a shadow of a doubt in my mind, the coastal stretch from Big Sur, Cal., all the way up to and including Alaska, has no rival when it comes to scenery, going by a vessel like the *HAVASEAS* must be the absolute most splendid way to roam this coast! . . . I do use the bracelet. It seems to help. The important thing is for me to make sure it is charged and on my wrist before we start. I think it helps but I still can’t move around much without getting ill. I am still searching for better options. Dramamine knocks me out which isn’t so good if I need to assist.

On my offshore fishing runs on my old 24 cc Robalo, couple times felt weezy. I would bury my face into some cold cantalaupe or watermelon and bam felt much better. Think something to do with the fructose. Not that you need worry about heat, but here in Texas offshore in 100 F, we fill up a 5 gallon bucket with fresh water, squeeze couple lemons, bag of ice, and tiny bit of bleach. Soak towels to wrap around neck and snort the fumes of lemon bleach. Not only cools the body, but definitely wakes one up. Just ideas for those times of intense heat on the water or humid days.
