I think they missed some of the most fascinating parts when they were on Öland. The hinterland in the southern half of Öland consists of an alvar ”Stora Alvaret”, a barren limestone plateau that is one of the world's most peculiar cultural landscapes - mighty, desolate and dizzyingly beautiful in a strange combination. Millennial grazing traditions and the thin soils on the limestone bedrock have created the conditions for a very special plant and animal life. Many of the plants are just as often found in the northern Swedish mountains or by the sea around the Mediterranean 🫢. There are also many species of orchids and several species that are endemic and only found there in the whole world. On Stora Alvaret is also Eketorp's ancient castle, which is a fully investigated, excavated and reconstructed "trelleborg" - a large circular defense wall made of limestone blocks with a reconstructed Iron Age village inside. About halfway down to the southern cape, on the west side, there is also one of the largest colonies of harbor seals in the Baltic Sea. The seals here are quite used to being watched and not nearly as shy as their west coast cousins.

Yes you are right, southern part of Sweden " Skåne" used to belong to Denmark back in the days. Öland is a place you should visit if u come back to Sweden sometime. Or visit Gotland, the bigger island next to Öland.

She mentions the movie Änglagård(House Of Angels) and if you find it with English subtitles you should def watch it. Written and directed by Colin Nutley, an Englishman, and he manages to capture Sweden really well. It's my all time favorite Swedish movie. If I'm not mistaken it was nominated, or at least was considerated, for an Oscar for best foreign movie. It also would be fun to see you check out some Astrid Lindgren movies if you can find subtitles. Nothing more Swedish than those haha.

Me and my best friend went to Kalmar and Öland a few years ago. In Kalmar we went to an Italian restaurant and had the best pasta with truffels and vodka sauce that I've ever tasted. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the name of the restaurant, but it was close to the harbour and the castle, and I think that you should check it out if you ever go to Kalmar. And make sure go to my home town of Göteborg (Gothenburg) too. 😉 About the train tunnels, if you feel your ears pop when in one, just clamp your nostrils between your fingers and blow through your nose. Since the air can't escape it will go to your ears instead and relieve the pressure. Or make sure to be chewing some gum while riding the train because it will probably prevent the ear pop.

I'm amazed to see Kristianstad visited again in a reaction video, second time in a week or so. Only becuase it's rarely visited by vloggers and it's probably as close as it will get to my home town. (My town is not pretty though there is an old mansion called Hovdala Castle, just outside my town. The whole area were basically a huge battle field during the Swedis/Danish wars) So yes, south of Sweden aka the regions Skåne, Blekinge and Halland used to be Danish. I live pretty much in the middle of Skåne, not far from either coast surrounding it and 1,5 hour train ride from Copenhagen. You found a great video. Lovely to see as a Swede too. I love Kalmar Castle. You need to visit it. :)

It is as you say, visit for at least 2 weeks. Take the family with you. The wife will plan as always, but that also means that you will see as much as possible of Sweden =)

Nice that you chose to react to the video about Kristianstad Öland Kalmar and Malmö, which I recommended. I live in a small village west of Kristianstad. A few days ago I saw you in a reaction to the Roxette video Listen to your heart. That concert was in the Castle ruin on Öland. The singer in Roxette, Marie Fredriksson died in 2019 after 10 years of suffering from a brain tumor. She formed Roxette with Per Gessle, who also has another band ”Gyllene Tider” Next year, Roxette will go on tour again and Per Gessle has asked Lena Philipsson, a famous Swedish singer, to replace Marie Fredriksson. The tour starts in Cape Town, South Africa on February 25 sharing a video and link with a newly written song of this new constellation of Roxette. Hope it’s ok for me to send recommendations on Insta or under comments. I can’t add to the playlist. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WPwYNk5cZb0.htmlsi=lNznwx3acczD8Kpj

Yeah there were someone from Allt för Sverige here, they shot an episode in Kalmar. I remember watching it because the lady it featured could trace her family back to the same ancestor as me 10 or 12 generations back.

2:20 Yes, Skåne, Blekinge were danish until the mid 1600s. Some other parts has also been Danish-Norwegian. You can still see a special mix of danish style and swedish style buildings that is pretty unique to Skåne.

The town "Kristianstad" (Christian's Town) is actually not pronounced as it is spelled in Swedish. Ended up needing to go there on a work trip and had to call a cab in order to get to the actual town from a nearby place. The taxi driver was very confused and looked at me like i was stupid when i said I wanted to go to "Kristianstad" (saying it as it is spelled) - he had never heard of this town. He then asked me to see the address I wanted to to go to and he immediately went "OH! Kristianstad" (pronouncing it correctly). I ofc felt slightly embarrassed as I actually had heard the towns name before (the correct pronunciation), but had never seen it written before. I also come from the Stockholm area, so probably affirmed the taxi drivers prejudice that all Stockholmers are dumb :) Anyway, the pronunciation. In Swedish: "Kri-shan-sta" English (approximation as your letters are pronounced a bit differently): "Cre-chan-sta" /Dumb Stockholm denizen :)

Most southern part of Sweden was a union with Denmark for over 400 years ago, but it had been part of Sweden before that also. And thst is only the absolute southern small part called Skåne and Halland, nothing else in southern Sweden.

And yes, the ruin Borgholm is used for concerts. There's been a few epic ones for sure. Right mow I can recommend watching Roxette as an axample as it's featured in one of their official music videos,:"Listen to your heart".

Hi Dar! Here's a tip for you: I recently stumbled on a RU-vid channel made by an American called "Garth loves travel". He is currently living in Stockholm and he makes a lot of videos about smaller places worth visiting in sweden, mostly close to Stockholm. He is super enthusiastic and I find his videos really enjoyable! You should check him out! 😊

Öland is just a peninsula. It is connected to the mainland.
@Bonovin
@Bonovin 23 дня назад
Connected only wth a bridge. Island for sure
@Salayarules

Öland is not a peninsula. it's an island hence the name "ö (island)"-land. But it is connected by a bridge which is why i can see the confusion. Not trying to be a smartass but that is also why the island of Öland has many different dialects due to the farmers on the island trading with the opposite people on the mainland back in the day. And thats why southern Öland almost has a Skåne dialekt and northern Öland has a more Smålands-like dialect. Have a good day and great video as usual @Dar The Traveler, Always fun to get an outsiders view of my country which i love !

Yeah, if you count the Kalmar Sound bridge as land 🙄. Do you also consider Sjælland a peninsula? I mean it’s connected to Skåne…
