Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. Few pockets of rain activity this morning have mostly died down with another seasonably mild start with less humid air, while tropical moisture in present in The Southeast as Tropical Storm Debby is producing torrential rain. Enough moisture in the atmosphere may produce a few thunderstorms once again today, but it will be a drier and slightly hotter today as the atmosphere is stabilizing, despite a few leftover clouds with a weak thunderstorm earlier near Double Eagle and showers that have dissipated around The Four Corners, as well as the northern mountains. It's yet another morning of above-normal temperatures with most of the northern mountain communities starting off in the upper 40's, 50's, and lower 60's, while valley locations are mostly ranging from the upper 50's to the 70's. As temperatures across the region rise once again into the high 70's, 80's, 90's, and near 100 degrees for a few areas, just enough moisture in the air, along with the ample amount of daytime heating, will lead to the possibility of some rainfall. The north-central mountains have the best chance of rain for today, but burn-scar flash flooding will be even more unlikely today with a low chance for rain around Ruidoso. Parts of The San Juan Mountains and The Gila National Forest will have a few storms firing off today, drifting slowly to the north and west later on eventually near The Hermits Peak & Calf Canyon area, while drifting to the south and west late today in northwestern areas. A few pockets of heavy rain, small hail, gusty winds, and some lightning strikes will be still be possible this afternoon with a lower rain chance from The Metro to the southeast especially. Mostly rain-free conditions with mild air is present across New Mexico this morning despite showers lingering in Arizona and well to the southeast in Florida, Hurricane Debby making landfall. Tropical moisture is present across much of the southern U.S., but stable-enough air aloft has provided the mostly dry conditions closer to home despite a few lingering clouds. The clouds that are present are circulating in a clockwise fashion because of the origin-point of the high pressure system around The Four Corners, which is starting to migrate to the east a bit.
As The Monsoon high pressure to the west-northwest continues to move west with another developing high pressure through the southeastern parts of The Land of Enchantment, storms will be few and far between in the short term. With this trend, temperatures will continue to be above-normal before a backdoor cold front is more likely to arrive later this week.
