The headstock bearings were fine, so I just greased them and put them back. Changed the oil in the forks, and replaced the fork seals and dust seals while in there.
Hmmm. Will have to look at other videos. I’ve done that job three or four times. Maybe I thought it was already covered. The seals have a right and wrong side. If installed the wrong way they will leak oil. But seating them is pretty easy. I have a tool for it.
23:47 holds seal upside down and points up saying metal ring side up. Doing this job please compare with old seals! The larger seal gap goes DOWN to capture pressurized oil to force the sealing surfaces against the fork tube and inside of the lower fork leg.
my friend a question. The manual recommends changing the fork oil at 15,000 miles for my scout bobber, but the dealer says it's optional. What do you recommend doing or not? It's a little expensive, it's $500 just to change the oil. At this point there is no oil leak.
Yes. I do it every two years. It’s simple. You can do it yourself. For simple oil change you don’t even need to pull the forks off. Just take the top off and insert a hose to suck it all out and refill. $500 is way too expensive for that service!

I have a 2020 bobber, to change the fork oil do I need to remove the bottom fork bolt too or can I just remove the top 30 mm bolt , pour out old oil, add new oil and place bolt back and assemble ?
@@mikhalych9748 ok so I finally did mine. I wish I had an extra pair of hands to record for you all to see but I didn’t. It was fairly easy. Once the fork was out, I extended it out as much as it can go without forcing it. Then I unscrewed the bottom bolt while having a disposability aluminum tray underneath it, once screw is off, I gripped the top fork with one hand and used an impact wrench to remove the top bolt. Came off easy. Don’t worry the spring is not under a lot of pressure and it won’t make the cap fly off. The cap just pops up a centimeter and the oil will quickly drain from the bottom of the fork. Without removing that bottom screw you can’t remove the spring. I then remove the spring and cleaned it it with a rag, I got a cheap scale and weighed fork oil in a cup based off the manual specs. each fork uses a different amount. If you have fork cleaner spray, spray inside fork and move the fork up and down to remove excess dirty oil. I didn’t do that step cuz I had no cleaner and I don’t care much for whatever dirty oil is left inside. I then put the spring back on and screw the bottom bolt to hold spring in place, then I lift the fork tube up leaving space for the oil to fall in and put the top cap back on and torque by putting it on the triple tree and you’re done. It is not as difficult as I thought. Try it, good luck man. Sorry for going on and on when the video already explains most of it.
@@mikhalych9748 sorry I didn’t see the notification! You do NOT need to remove the bottom bolt to just change fork oil. I mention it when I get to that part, that if you are just changing oil skip this step.
