Yes you just made it look easy. Without the tooling, especially the seal driver, it becomes much more difficult. I've done fork seals without a factory driver with pipe. Didn't have any problems cutting the seals. I quit riding a 34 year old goldwing and bought a HD roadking. Then ultra classic, which I traded in on roadmaster. Indian has really impressed me. As for the tooling, I'm a retired automotive and diesel tech. And school bus tech. Master in all three from ASE. Would love to have a challenger, if only it had air ride rear suspension. That motorcycle will be a legend in a few short years. ..

Just found you. Excellent tutorial! I’m anal about following factory service recommendations and do as much of my own work as I am able to do. Little tips like you point out which you won’t find in the SM are a big help.

Thank you for this excellent video. I have a 2020 Roadmaster with almost 15K and 10 months on the road. I've read the factory manual and the procedure is exactly as you shown. Now the problem is I only need to change the oil and the way to measure the level is without the top part of the cartridge. I don't have the special tools so I was thinking of removing the oil from the top and measuring how much comes off, then putting back in the same amount. Another option is measuring the height with the cartridge. I'm also considering going to 30K with the same oil since I've reading comments that at 15K the oil comes out clean.

Dude, 2 comments: 1. Truely awesome video and tutorial. 2. NOT doing this job by myself. Though I'm quite handy and CAN perform this maintenance, I ain't gonna. Don't have the cool-tools you gots. Thanks for a very, very good video.

Awesome video! I haven't checked, but do you have a video on how to remove the forks on a Chieftain? I need to do mine, so figured I might make a video on that when I do. Thank you for making the second part of that job easier!

Great video! Planning on doing this myself too. Quick question: what size socket is needed to remove the fork caps? The forums say 30mm for the Scout. Same for the Springfield? Thanks!

Nice vid Julian. I was wondering if you had experiance with early Gilroy fork seals. I have a '00 Chief. Taking off the top caps allows tube removal from the trees but I'm not sure what I should do next. Those are a different design. I'm thinking removing the seal clip may allow them to come apart... Thanks for any suggestions......

2016 Scout, fork seal replacement. Having trouble getting the bottom drain bolt reinstalled. The inner piece the bolt threads into isn’t going low enough for the bolt to reach. I’m following the manual but wondering if I should put inner piece in before I install the strut tube

Great video Jules. Can you tell me what size the cartridge shaft tool (PV-49452) is that is used to hold the cartridge to remove the retaining bolt? I have not been able to find that tool so I need to make one to get me by until I do. Thanks!

What's your take on Indian's 2-yr/15k fork oil interval recommendation? Too frequent? I was going to DIY, but the service manual doesn't specify the fill level (we have a 2018 Scout Bobber & a 2020 Scout). But it looks like you do a really thorough job, and if you're at the OC dealership, I'd probably be happier taking the bikes in!

Thank you! Sure thing, Oil Seal PN # 3610157 Dust Seal PN # 3610158 Bushing PN # 5136822 Bushing Washer PN # 7556493. Drain Bolt Copper Crush Washer PN # 1500798. Indian Fork Oil PN # 2880015. Part number for the special tools I believe are in the video. The fork spring compressor and seal installer are fairly generic suspension tools and can be purchased through many different suppliers.

What is the best method of getting to the upper fork pinch bolt without removing fairing. I tried a extended box end ratchet wrench with a torx bit, but still too big to get in there.

Great video! I’m looking to purchase a Indian chieftain from Copart soon and fix it up. Will this be a very expensive task for me? Trying to get a gauge on what I’m bout to get myself into.
@juleswrenches909
@juleswrenches909 3 года назад
Doing fork seals isn’t expensive as far as parts go. Its just isn’t the easiest job mechanically and takes a good amount of time. But it definitely will be cheaper to do it yourself than having a dealer do it, and only because of the time it takes. I think we charge around 4 hours total, around 450$ bucks just for labor.

Hello Jules, as I need some insight, As I have a 2018 Indian Roadmaster Elite, With Big Bore Kit/Ported & Polished/Tuner/Dynoed/Pipes/Breather/Rekluse Clutch/with a lot of performance parts done by Indian, The fork seals appear to hold up on this bike OK, but I Live in The HEAT Of Texas, and we endure a lot of very rough roads, dusty, and a lot of bugs. On top of all of the Kinks I put on my Front end I also pull my custom dog trailer. So what name brand performance Seals do you recommend replacing the stock ones with and which name brand fluid and what weight? This bike I need the best name brand seals & Fluid? which do you prefer? I also have another 2019 Indian Roadmaster Elite, With Big Bore Kit/Ported & Polished/Tuner/Dynoed/Pipes/Breather/Rekluse Clutch/with a lot of performance parts done by Indian, and this one has a DMC Side Car with a Custom Dog Trailer. I have SMOKED at least 5 clutches, Fork seals have been replaced a couple of times with only 22,000 miles on the bike now
