Its so funny to hear the negative comments from the riders. I remember when all these sleds were new. They were the talk of the year. Nothing but positive awesome comments about them. To me they will always be awesome just like they were when new. Logan you ask how we older ones did it. We were tough. We didn't have what you have to ride like todays sleds. These old sleds were awesome compared to our older leaf spring sleds we came off of. We though of them, just like you do the new sleds.
Thanx u jeff. The mussel snomobile. There nice to see older sleds. Mint condition. Blows my mind. I was born 69. So i have been riding in old days the low low riders. Now they top heavy. Thsxs Jeff
@@prylosecorsomething3194 I dusty off the old zr 700 ( Freddy) last year. Went through the fox shocks, tinkered on it a little and went for a couple of rides last year. Had a blast. Everyone thought I would be crippled afterward. I felt fine. Kept with the youngsters on new stuff just fine. I'm looking forward to more this year. I only own that and a 2000 ZL440. Still love riding these sleds. I get alot of heads turning when I pull in to get gas, which is quite frequently on the ZR.
I grew up with those kinda sleds my last triple was a 700 viper I pounded that thing for 1800 miles and still worked good as new when I sold it ..can’t beat the sound of a 2 stroke triple.. good video
Love the sounds of triples.. the woops smooth out at like 70 to 90 mph... the triple triples are great sleds. Those big xcr motors can take a little porting and become violent machines!
That brings back some great memories. I grew up in Huntsville and have made the trek out to Dorset on many occasions and been lost in snow squalls out on Lake Of Bays more than once. Great times, grab that throttle and let er eat!!
agree 100% as a kid they were what i saw cruising past and what got me hooked. just so happened i was in engines class with the local skidoo dealers son so i ended up with a 94 formula Z when the time came.
Had a sxr 600 and decided to go rider forward with a brand new viper in 2015 and let's just say with all the tech and stability, I liked it so much that I sold it 3yrs later and went back to a 99 vmax 700. It's snowmobiling not riding your couch through the bush. If you're tired at the end of the day means it was a good day sledding. Keep your rider forward ergo crap I'll stick with snowmobiling the way it's ment to be enjoyed
In the mid 90's I did lots of riding on a Polaris 600 xlt special with extra 10 inch in the front and 13inches in the rear that thing was awesome. Smooth and fast ,it was good a getting air to. That was some fun times.
Cool video, well done - kind of draws you in. I'm a vintage guy and I can appreciate the sleds. Great video - makes me appreciate the Polaris triples a little more. Oh, background music good, but I would love to hear the triple engine sound more. Especially the ones that performed the best, nice triple purrrrr sound.
Have been sledding all my life. Have had 17 dif machines over the years. Just upgraded once again. My last upgrade was a 91 formula plus 521 to a 97 mach 1 700 . Now into a 2015 mxz 800 etech. Going to be so different. Like you said , dif riding style all together. Im stoked !
2 stroke triples are my personal fav and the features this year on them have been excellent. Please guys keep.up the hard work and you all should come across lake Huron sometime and come see us trolls under the bridge.
Each there own kinda thing imo. I have a skidoo rev and i ride my thundercat 1000cc more. I also ride my zrt 800. I dont seem to get as beat up as you guys say and yes i also have a indy 650. Almost feels like everyone sponsors new sleds and i feel the same no matter what i ride. So yes i get sore muscles on new and old. I understand my new sled has better suspension but not like im driving a Cadillac.
I've been off sleds now for over 20yrs. My son has never ridden one yet! we don't get a lot of good rideable snow here in NE PA as many would want you to think. So new ones with their price just isn't practical. I'd take that pair of Indy 650's in a heartbeat for us just to have a good time now and then when we get enough snow to ride for a day or two. My sled growing up...ehh, can't remember the exact year but it was an old Ski Doo Olympique 1cyl. 335cc with that big round ugly hood and bogie wheels..lol! I rode the heck out of it back in the 70's.
Old Triples are the best. I got a 95 ZRT 800 with a 900 top end, ported, PSI pipes, DG "Silencer", 136" TSL skid, and a bunch of other stuff done to it. When I'm out riding with my buddies on all their newer sleds. It's my old triple that turns the heads and gets the looks. And my sled looks rough, I haven't made it to aesthetics yet, but it just don't matter when it sounds that good. I'm kind of sad you guys are all riding Polaris's here though, where's a T-cat or a Mach Z? Also, what's with all the talk about the lack of power in the 650's compared to rider forward sleds? Not an ounce of talk on the XCR's power. Come on, we all know what triples are known for.
Man... it HURT to hear that kid say "its an old school thing" I came up with the Wildcat 650 being the bad boy and watched the triple game in its full glory. Im still rocking a '96 ZRT 600 for trail use. Pa bought it brand new and handed it down to me. My son is 12 and foaming at the mouth to get his Papa's Zed. Man... Im gettin old. LONG LIVE TRIPLE/TRIPLE 2 STROKES!!!
Great video! I really enjoyed it. A lot of unnecessary whining though :) Imagine if you guys grew up riding springers? You'd appreciated the heck out of the new fangled snow machines with suspension.
Had 91 650. Beast year. Nothing sounds like a Polaris 650. I currently have 98 700 xc n 03 xcr800. 700 is done up. 116 on radar in 2000 ft. W 24 40 gears. Xcr 800 stock 2000 ft. 121. This year I put reeds pipes n jets. N freed up roolie resistance. Roller clutches. Hope for 125 in 2000. Goin this 2week end shell go or blow.
Hey you guys, man up! 80,s 90,s 2 strokes rules, can,t beat it in the morning at 15 degrees Fahrenheit at start-up time. My latest was a 1996 750 Yamaha V-MAX. Piped, picked, and oh ya ,4 cylinders!!. Bring it on you long track 4 strokers.
You can tell these guys have never ridden old sleds, you dont rail corners like you do on new sleds, you power slide with the back end out. That's how u corner on these sleds
Don't talk about these sleds like it's impossible to go on a destination ride. Left home with a quad of triples years ago, pulled back into home 5 days and 1800+ miles later. There were some mornings where the repairs took until afternoon to get rolling again, but we had no support vehicle, and just one little head gasket kept us from all riding back into town at the end of the trip. Destination rides they are.
Yes totally agree. New sled was like $5000 - $6000. For a top of the line muscle sled . Now its like $10000 plus. Trail permits were $80 when I started riding . Now $$$. And insurance whent up and gas . Oil . But I tthats just the inflation of the economy.
Still running my 96 Ultra, modified to 800, flat slide Mukuni's piped, suspension upgraded to air long travel front and m-10 159" in the rear, most can't even keep up.
I’ve owned a lot of sleds but never a triple. I’d totally buy one and do this ride though. I’m thinking an ultra spx, zrt 600, or formula lll. Srx would be really cool too. Probably be next to impossible to find an ultra spx. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one outside of the brochure I collected as a kid. Cool video!
The first sled I ever rode in my life what a 89 indy 650 I was 3 it even had triple pipes my dad always tells me how much my face would grin when it started up I'm 14 now and own a 95 indy 650 electric fuel injected it's way faster than the normal one and it's so much fun!!
110 MPH on a 650 was awesome!!!! I still ride my'n and SHOCK a lot of young dudes as i whip by in the corners and dust them in the long straights.. Well till there turbo's kick in and fly by me. BUT if you can dust a new boosted butt kicker with the old iron. Something is working well. hahaha
I raced a assault 800 with my 01 500 !! She kept right up along side all the way up to 65-70. I just got a triple and haven’t gotten a chance to crack her open yet, I bet that beast will keep up even better with a new sled.
when i got into sledding in the 90's the cool guys rode muscle sleds and would spend ALL DAY racing up and down the same half mile on what ever lake was closest. if you put on 1000 miles a year it was a huge year and your sled was probably in the shop 3 times to get there haha.
Thats what struck me here. These guys bragging about 100 miles in a day and 1800 miles in a season. In the late 80's, early nineties we had a group where the boys rode every Wednesday night and couples on Saturday night. Sometimes book rooms for the night on a lake, pleasure ride/race on Sundays, then pound for home. We easily did 400 miles a week and 10,000 in a season. At 15, my son was doing 200 miles a week taking his girlfriend home from school every day. We were all in our late 30's, early forties at the time. I bought my first sled in early 1968, an end of season special 1967 Skidoo 12hp. Came in a cardboard box, some assembly required. $595 Canadian pick up at the dealer price. I had that thing for years until I bought a 399cc twin about '74. I sold it to a friend who used it for another 10 years or more to travel to his ice fishing hut and tow it on and off the lake each year.
Should’ve got a Polaris storm 800, I had a 96 as my first sled probably one of the first with fox suspension and that thing would shoot flames at idle (obviously not correct)but never broke down on for 4 season and probably 4,000 miles
A one piece suit might make sense in the mountains, but doing Ontario style touring, stopping at restaurants for meals? Not at all. Just plain goofy. A triple triple, on the other hand? Oh man, I want one, so bad.
Those old 650’s always had a bog lol . At least any one of them I’ve ridden . Granted an older fella where I’m from still had an old 650 drag sled pushing about 165 horsepower . Lol
Played alot of Hockey in Huntsville. We'd stop the tour bus and change the H to a C with hockey tape on the green Huntsville population sign on the way into town.
I had a 1996 purple Ski Doo 600 triple triple and it was quick, and sounded awesome ! I ended up bending it in a drainage ditch. I’m strictly a trail/lake rider now lol. Merry Christmas 🎁🎅🏻🎄
When I want to be up on the handle bars in a rider forward race position with chaffed swamp ass the next day, I’ll ride my 19’ crf450 Honda mx bike. I keep my comfy gen 3 zr cat for the snowmobile trails. 💯
@Darrel Holmgren Have you ever owned or ridden a Yamaha triple? The SRX 700 won sled of the year and how many Ski Doo, Polaris, or AC triples do you see on the trail? Yamaha triples last forever with little maintenance. Plus, they sound pretty sweet.
I was watching this and you guys said now we are in Dorset I thought "hung that's funny I live really close to dorset" then you said were on our way back to Huntsville "hung I live really close to Huntsville" do did you guys ho through dwight because that's were I live
