Review of the TripleClampMoto air filter for the KTM 950 and 990 Adventure. I have been looking at making a filter setup using dirt bike style filter elements so I could more easily carry spares with me, and Triple Clamp came out with this around the same time and saved me the trouble.

Jordan I’ve had the same exact issue with my Rottweiler setup on my 950. The filter seemed to just deteriorate after 1500 miles and they aren’t cheap! I thought I was the only one. I’m loving my Triple Clamp filter now.

Thank you! - FYI we have made several updates to this kit since.

Just purchased the kit, along with a crankcase vent breather, and prefilter skin. Should I be looking at the RC8 trumpets to avoid the issues outlined in this video of the stock trumpets hitting the filter media? Or have you guys resolved this issue with the updates?

The acces to that carburetor sure is simple. Nice explicit video, keep on the great job !

Thanks! It definitely beats the stock airbox and glove box design, which takes a real chunk of time to let you get to the carbs or do any work on the top of the engine.

@@gearheadE30 I'm curios what carb setting you decided on with this air filter. How's it holding up a year later?
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 3 года назад
@@trentgress8187 It's still holding up great; I've cleaned the filters a few times and have had no problems. My jetting is 42 pilots, 165/168 mains, 4mm floats, stock needle clip 2, 60 ACV air jet. It's set up to work with the Rottweiler 2 to 1 exhaust with a spark arrester in it; a bike with no arrester or dual mufflers may need larger mains.

Hey great video, thanks for making it. I'm on the fence whether I keep the OEM filter and add a pre-filter or add this. What kind of performance gain did you notice? I'm on a 990 Adventure EFI. Loved the video of you shredding the Jawbone OHV, you were flying up those hills.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I ran the airbox with a prefilter for a while, and made the change more for serviceability than for performance. I wanted to be able to get to everything easily if I had a trail breakdown, and the oiled foam filter elements have a much higher dirt holding capacity than the factory paper elements. That said, when properly jetted the bike does pull harder with the open filter, and the difference is mainly noticeable at high RPM. It also heat soaks much worse riding off road. The open intake is also quite loud, which some people like and some hate. The carbs are quieter than EFI because there are more bits in the airstream; it doesn't annoy me but I have heard of people switching back to the airbox just because of the noise.

I'm pretty sure the filter oil is Maxima FFT. It's dark blue and very tacky.

Sweet.. Seems like a lot of extra work to reject the carbs...

It isn't too bad. Just like any modification it takes a few iterations to get it dialed in, and the end result is worth it.

I have not.

What jetting are you running?

@gearheadE30 Год назад
On a 990 now, but when I had this on the 950 I was 165/168 mains, 42 pilot, needle in the 2nd clip position, 4mm float height , and a 60 ACV jet. Also had a 2 to 1 exhaust with a spark arrestor, which makes a big difference for jetting the mains. 2 mufflers, you'll want to be a few sizes larger.

Will try this setup on my 950 adventure 2004. Muller motorsport has them, and they recommend 170/175 mains. I run double Wings at sealevel. Seems pretty good. Rest of settings will be like yours I guess.

Hi. Did you play with the jets?
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 2 года назад
The jetting ended up being the same as what I ran with the rottweiler intake; it didn't need to be returned. Coming from stock, you will have to rejet.

@@gearheadE30 would you mind telling me what size and combo you used?
@gearheadE30
@gearheadE30 2 года назад
@@thomothompson1344 I don't remember exactly, but I was around 165 mains, stock needles maybe second clip, stock 42 pilots, and I think I went a few sizes up on ACV jets. Float height was as low as I could get it, I think around 4mm. My setup was a lot leaner than what most people ran, but it worked well for me. Lots of info on different setups over on advrider by the way.
