CF degrades under UV light (sunlight). I'm sure it would take a while but leaving it out in direct sunlight to "bake" all day doesn't sound like a great idea.
Hmmm... don't know if your aware or not, but alcohol and many (but not all) 'flavors' of rubber don't get along well... twist lock rubber over-molds for instance. Alcohol can and will greatly accelerate the aging & deterioration process of susceptible rubber products...
Moose, do you ever lubricate the threads under the legs locks? If you do, what do you use? I was thinking of using some graphite like I use on my trailer ball, since it is not greasy.
Not sure what you're asking. A vast majority must go back to the factory, I know mine do, so there is nothing I can do about my own. If you own differently, then you'll need to seek out those who own it and have found the answer.
@@MoosePeterson I'm just speaking of general maintenance. A ball head that came with a tripod several months ago appeared to be developing light streaks, as if it was being scratched. I cleaned it very thoroughly yesterday with alcohol and then sprayed a bit of silicone. I wiped it down getting as much of the liquid away as possible. It seems to be working very well. I have no idea if silicone spray has a long term bad effect. I would think some bit of lubrication would be a good thing. Do you do any of this with your ball heads? Thanks!
