I fly LAX to Taipei, then Chiangmai once a year. Last year, it was EVA Airlines. Next December, it will be China Airlines. They look comparable, except that China Airlines looks to have a much better entertainment system than Eva Airlines. Eva Airlines was also very crowded at check in. I wish that I could sleep on a plane. Thanks for your review, very detailed.
China airlines has a more sleek and more comfertable design when it comes down to the cabin. I highly suggest China Airlines over EVA Air because EVA Air has a old design unlike China airlines. China Airlines also has a better cabin crew which I also love.
@@EditV1be I disagree. The new "sleek" cabin comes at a cost - they really really densified it. B777 or A350, China Airlines made the cabin very dense with 30-31" leg room. On top of it, their seat padding is ridiculously hard. EVA is better in almost all regards.
I will be traveling with my wife and 3-year-old son on this very flight in a couple of months. My son has never been on a plane, much less a long international flight like this. This video was so helpful to show him exactly what to expect when we make our trip, especially showing the entertainment system, then nice people, and the food. Thanks so much.❤❤
Just so you know, the food is pretty bad. Not China Airlines' issue but LAX and SFO catering are horrible. On your reverse flight from Taipei, the food is 100% better. Another problem is China Airlines does not have overhead air vent and they have the tendency to leave the cabin super warm. I've left their flights with heat exhaustion in several instances.
I love China Airlines better than EVA Air because there’s a food that I got is chicken and rice is my favorite. And I was on my flight Los Angeles to Taipei for 14 hours. It was super happy that we’re on this Airlines
I’m surprised you received slippers in economy, no ice cream after the meal, strange that you got it after breakfast though. The eggs look like the instant ones I’ve had before, not real eggs. Nice review. The interior definitely looks unique on China Airlines.
This is really helpful for me to know what i can expect because ill be travelling with a China airlines 777-300ER from Frankfurt to Taipei and the other way around when going back home while in economy, thanks!
Thank you for sharing this airline I’ve NEVER considered this airline due to their history however you’ve opened up my eyes to their potential 😊 My suggestion would be to stop this music and let us hear the engines and take off and landings then play the music throughout the flight if need be. Just my opinion
Looks like you can do the following combination CI LAX/SFO-TPE-MNL/CEB. That way you avoid a PR MNL-CEB domestic flight and PR103/113 LAX-MNL. These days it means the Taiwanese carriers CI = BR🇹🇼 > PR🇵🇭. Because you can see a Filipino passenger thay has either Skypass/Dynasty Flyer mileage program Skyteam Alliance using it over PR Mabuhay Miles. For LAX-MNL via TPE
Flew their A350-900 from SFO to TPE then to BKK. A much quieter and pleasant plane especially with nine abreast seating in economy instead of ten. No comparison .
I fly China Airline and other carriers based in East Asia several times a year, name it short haul or long haul. My main issue with China Airline is that their service is not the most consistent and their flight attendants can be surprisingly unprofessional from time to time. If you are seeking for some consistency to make the trip more enjoyable (less unbearable), other carriers such as EVA, ANA, or JAL might be your better options 😄 but China Airline is often always less pricey across all classes 😅
Agreed! I am SkyTeam Elite Plus and I am forced to fly China Airlines constantly because Delta pulled out of TPE and China Eastern reduced flight frequency to/from Mainland China. China Airlines flight attendants can be super rude and some are even racist. If I speak to them in Chinese, they would throw attitude at me even for very basic requests. However, if I speak to them in English, the attitude is enormously better. I think this comment is very accurate based on my hundred of flights with China Airlines.
I'll be flying out in one of these in February. I notice what looks like white headphones wire plug into the monitor. Is it a regular plug and not the two prong plug?
There once was a joke among us locals decades ago that CAL would mean "China Airlines (always) Late". Ever since EVA Air came along, we never considered flying that carrier. For us, the latter (EVA) has become our most affordable way to go to Taiwan.
Is that Modeled Plane always late from the Philippines which is a nickname for Philippine Airlines which is actually the competitor of this Taiwanese Carrier on Taipei to Manila. These days CI = BR🇹🇼 > PR🇵🇭. Since CI is part of Skyteam Alliance you can do that as CI 🇹🇼= KE🇰🇷 > PR🇵🇭. BR is Star Alliance which means this BR🇹🇼OZ🇰🇷CA🇨🇳TG🇹🇭NH🇯🇵> UA🇺🇲. Apply TPE-MNL to this it's BR🇹🇼 > PR🇵🇭
if you want to get a good night's sleep I recommend upgrading to premium economy, China Airlines offers saffran airgo FX premium seats that have a bigger screen, good leg space, and their own hard shell so you don't have to worry about the person in front to recline into you, or you reclining into the person behind, and you get similar service to that of business class and an upgraded meal and 12 hours of complimentary wifi, if you ever choose to do so, i would suggest booking the front row seats for more leg room and fast access to the lavatory.
That premium econ seat is the worst!!!! Foot rest in the worst place, very limited recline due to the cocoon design, and rock hard seat padding and back... to top it off, that giant airbag on the seat belt. I've a frequent flyer and I have literally turned down a free upgrade into premium econ on regional flights. Once you try the premium econ seat on US airlines, you will never take China Airlines'.
@@_w_w_ i prefer it when no one recline into me that’s why i like it 😭 i have tried some western ones and they were pretty comfy, but safran fx airgo is still my preference 🙏🙏
@@banditegg5675 No one wants someone to recline into them. There is nothing stopping a non-cocoon seat to have more but constrained recline. Plus, in prem econ, the seat pitch is much more generous, even a bit of extra recline isn't had bad as in econ. I will just say the prem econ seats used by US airlines, the Recaro PL3530 series, also the same seat as domestic first class, are far superior to China Airlines' Zodiac Airgo FX... It's the same seat as JAL's. They are my least favorite seats. By the way, Taiwanese generally copy everything the Japanese does because of historic cultural reasons. When US airline update their prem econ to PL3810, it will be an even bigger game changer. In general, Safran Zodiac's seat designs are not very good. Recaro is far superior.
Hi, did they make you weigh your carry on ? Mine is within the dimensions but its about 1kg/2 lbs over😅. I'm actually flying from Taipei to LAX in a month. Also is a backpack considered a personal item ? Usually it is for other airlines but the China Airline site is making me think it's not
Yes, a backpack is counted as a personal item. The airline allows you to bring a personal item and a carry on with no charge, and they do weigh your carry ons.
Yes I had to wear masks the entire flight, you could take them off once in a while and when you eat, and no, they weren’t really strict about them. But since this video was filmed back in December 2022, I’m not sure if they still require masks now.
Excuse me, I have a flight from Delta Airlines and China Airlines from Dallas to Vietnam. I will go to Los Angeles airport to go to Taiwan. When I get off the plane, do I need to pick up my luggage and check in again? If I check in again, how will I follow the directions? This is the first time I've gone to 2 different airlines so I'm not sure, thank you very much!!😢
At Dallas, make sure you check the luggage through and to Vietnam. If you have an overnight in Taipei, then they will have you pull the luggage in Taipei. Otherwise, it check through Vietnam. At LAX, unless your Dallas check-in agent screws up, you shouldn't need to pick up. China Airlines use TBIT terminal and Delta is at T2 or T3. There is an airside bus you can take between T2/T3 and TBIT.
Don't confused China Airlines with Air China. China airlines is Taiwan while Air China is mainland and I got to say other difference is China airlines has ratings of 4 or 5 stars while air china has 3 stars
I have flown once on China airlines ( round trip ofc) from Sweden-China-Thailand and the same back ofc planes was ok (flow economy tho) but the China Airport not good at all but im not much about fuss so long i have an chair and on time i don't care what food even if air company's wouldn't serve food ( all do serve food on long hauls so far as i know) or any built-in Entertainment system and so on
EVA is better. I fly on both...frequently. Hands down EVA is better at consistency and food. Because of China Airlines's past safety issues, they hire very good looking flight attendants for those superstitious. CI's flight attendants can be very rude and BR's is consistently good.
I flew on China Airlines from Manila - Taipei - Los Angeles. There was nothing wrong with the service or the flights. I just didn't like the food that they served because I didn't like it and it looked like cooked canned dog food. Maybe it was just an unlucky flight for the meals at that time. Anyway for me the most important thing was a safe flight as I can always have something to eat later that I like. Next time we go back to the Philippines I'm planning to fly on Korean Airlines as I prefer the seating arrangements in economy on their 777 by having a 3-3-3 configuration instead of the 3-4-3 configurations that most airlines have. I have broad shoulders and it's not fun being cramped for 12 or 13 hours. I just need that little extra room.
At the time of when I filmed this video, which was 8 months prior, they did still require them. I think the mask mandate is lifted on the airline but I’m not 100% positive.
I fly with China airlines 4 times a month I have no option as I live in China My opinion the worst in the world Air China 3 hour flight from northern China to Beijing you get 1 cup of water The service is nonexistent No inflight entertainment
I think you go the two airlines mixed up, Air China and China Airlines and two different airlines. China Airlines is a Taiwanese airline and Air China is a Chinese airline. Sorry for you experience with Air China though.
@@mylesaway5268No, I am pretty positive that you don’t need to. During the time of filming this video, people did not need to as I assume it’s still the same now.
HATE THE MUSIC … NOT THE MUSIC IN THE CABIN DURING BOARDING .. THEY DON’T PLAY THAT KIND OF MUSIC IN FLIGHT. THAT MUSIC DON’T GIVE THE FEELING OF BEING INSIDE THE CABIN … WOULD PREFER THE SOUND INSIDE THE CABIN IN FLIGHT
@@calviinle it’s not a good presentation . The others are better… you can hear the sound of the engine, the cabin & the announcements. All I heard from that Video is music that is not even needed and does not fit the presentation.
Will never fly in economy on any flight over 4 hours,it's a nightmare...Heading to Thailand in February 2024 and so many airlines to choose from...looking at airfare starting from the cheapest..Philippines Airlines to Emirates...from $3,800 to over $10,000 for a return flight from LAX..
