Trisha O'Hehir, RDH, MS presents her latest findings regarding mouth breathing in her presentation titled 'Close Your Mouth, Breathe Through Your Nose!'
I’m a mouth breather, Nd I just learned about breathing through the nose about 2weeks ago, I’m still trying to get used to it, also I started positioning my tongue on the roof of my mouth about 2days ago, it feels weird, but dang I wished I knew about this sooner.
How old are u? I am 17 and also started all this. I highly recommend u the channel orthotropics if u are interested in changing your face and your body posture to the better :)
i have a sinus infection and have been miserable because i can’t breathe through my nose. that tip to unplug your nose has just flipped my entire life around
This is one of my favorite videos on RU-vid. I've watched it at least 4 times and have shared it with many dental professionals. It is very much appreciated
There is no mention in this whole talk of the sugar alcohol, xylitol, which is in the title of the video. Only through some searching did the connection between your product and the compound become apparent. 😉
I wished I had known this while growing up. I grew up playing video games and sitting down and playing guitar for long pwriods of time. I notice remembering all the time I would open my mouth a lot cause I would drool sometimes lol
when my nose is stuffed, I'm desperately trying to breathe through my nose while I feel like I'm suffocating... And I make a hell ton of noise trying to breathe through my stuffed nose, and I feel like crap
hay i recommend you to search about mse it helps with nasal floor and cavity expanding it and ur nasal airway and oral posterior airway but i would recommend you to try buteyko breathing it helps with stuffed nose when u gotta go sleep do those exercises it helps a lot
I have sleep apnea, am a mouth breather, and have neurological issues so whenever I become aware of mouth breathing I try to change but have difficulties. Any suggestions?
Try to time yourself a little every day. Tongue behind your top 2 front teeth for 5 min a day and work up to an hour. You also may need to be evaluated for a tongue tie. My son had one which was a major contributor to his sleep apnea
I know I have a problem snoring at night and have sleep apnea but not sure how to go about it without doing the sleep study. Any help would be appreciated.
do the study and get the machine...you will be amazed at the results...yes there will be a period of adjustment needed with intermittent refusals to wear, but once the restful nights and increased energy the next days are realized, you will be hard-pressed to not use it...good luck
This video, and especially the comment section, is very insensitive and inconsiderate toward people who, without knowing it could be bad in any way, mouth breathed as kids and eventually as adults. It is not common knowledge across many cultural circles that mouth breathing could be bad, so not all parents discourage it. Funnily enough, former Harvard student, and now billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, managed all this success despite mouth breathing, as well as 23 time olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps, and millions of other people! So maybe you should think more before speaking (or writing!) next time you feel that you have something to say about this topic.😁 Cheers!
Definitely need to also talk about tongue ties and upper airway resistance syndrome even speaking about mouth breathing. This video is wonderful but mouth taping isn’t the solution for everyone
I completely agree! A restricted tongue likely causes a low tongue posture and makes it harder to keep their lips together to breathe through their nose. So much goes into breathing and correcting myofunctional disorders and structures is crucial!
That was a really nice lecture. At the end of the video you can see the audience looking at each other for Long Face Syndrome and many of them with it looking a little awkward… Lol! Good video though. I reckon loads of mouth breathing runners and joggers have died during or just after exercise and are generically and mindlessly recorded as having had a “previously undiagnosed heart condition”. Of course some of them did... but what about all the others?
I stopped watching at her claim that ADHD is just sleep deprivation, when there are proven mechanistic neural pathologies showing it exists physiologically. She can claim anything--like ADHD is just sleep apnea or the earth is flat--but without data and rulling out a null hypothesis, this presentation falls more into the category of pseudoscience for being so bold to claim causation by invoking mere superficial correlation. Is Devry University handing out Mouth Breathing Studies degrees now? Besides that egregious claim, very informative.
Animals eat with their mouth open, and perhaps we should too, sometimes. I experiment with chewing rib eye steak with mouth open and mouth closed. I find that in biting into steak with mouth slightly open allows the jaw to open bigger to chew the meat better. I do not care about “Emily Post” and I still breathe thru my nose.
If you’ve exerted yourself to the point you have to breath heavily mouth breathing is fine, however if it’s light exercise than just breath through your nose
OldBurgerLover Interesting that you don't believe a single thing in this video. Maybe you need to try nose breathing to see what happens when you get more oxygen reaching your brain. :) Keep studying biochemistry with special attention to the physiology of breathing.
strange, if you study biochemistry, you should actually have learned all these things at least that it’s absolutely not healthy to breath trough your mouth 🧐 maybe you needed the 18% to remember that haha
