Triton SuperJaws Review - SJA100E
This is a review for the smaller version of the Triton SuperJaws. It's a great tool for woodcarving and holding your work but it has its issues and hopefully I explain them in this video without being too negative!
Truth is I love this little tool but was disappointing by the issues. While I wouldn't buy this specific one again I probably would buy the larger version.

Interesting review with a refreshing dose of honesty. I have had a need for some sawhorse-like thing for my shop for a while now, and I have made due with clamps on benches and such, but this looks like a good alternative for rather dedicated clamping. Thank you for sharing, Chris!

I just received my Super Jaws today, fast delivery from Amazon. I also bought the log jaws attachment for sawing logs for my woodstove. Works perfectly! And SO much better than a traditional saw horse! It's a very sturdy piece of kit and also extremely versatile as a multi-purpose vice for woodwork and metal work. Simple to set up, easy to use, and portable.

Hi ! I think that you are the only one on this planet who makes a video around this tool AND use it. Really, THANKS YOU ! It's not exactly what I expect, but videos with guys demonstrating that a perfectly centered door does not fall of it are legions and it is just ads for me. Thank you sir, from France. (what that I expect ? I want to see people trying to use saw, rasp (big ones), sand paper, etc to see if it's stable on floor or if I will don't have better than a low cost micro bench)

Thanks! I try to be honest in my reviews even if it means showing the ugly aspects. For us bigger guys the small one is a bit flimsy but apparently can be bolted down to floor to make it more solid.

Nice Video mate, I have the Spindle sander as well and have always been happy with it. Never seen these Jaws before

I use mine for only holding wood to be cut for the log burner. I went to local blacksmith and for £20 they made me larger metal holders and fitted them with non slip nuts n bolts. Works a treat.

Brilliant. I've got the small log jaws Triton provide but could do with some bigger ones. I've since bolted down the unit to the floor since I did this video and it really makes a difference to stability.

Great review. I have the slightly cheaper Aldi version (but it's basically the same) and think it's fine too. 3/5 is what I'd give it. But I have the same reservations as you, my jaw rubbers failed to within weeks and on my lovely Workshop floor it skates around like torville and Dean.

I've had the original version for years (from back when Triton was really Triton), and it's (they're?) still going strong, with the originsl jaws. Wouldn't be without it (them)...

I might have been unlucky with these perhaps - completely agree though, I could probably just return these but honestly its still a real game changer for my carving and wouldn't be without them too.

Sorry to hear yoy had issues with it, very suprised the rubber pad had problems, mine still going strong. The only.issue i have had with mine is my fault really sawdust and wood chips building up inside the mechanism means i keed to dismantle every now amd then besides that i still highly recommend it

Sorry didnt get back to you sooner - I didn't as I've not being too much carving since the move but in the old workshop I bolted to the floor to secure it and that helped loads. In hindsight I'd still buy the bigger one though.

@@TheWoodgineer So u would buy the Triton xl? How is the balance on the one u got?

I have had one of these now for several years. It's brilliant, except oddly flawed by one or two issues. I needed it to help me make 21 window frames for my house. All were about 1.2-1.4 metres high. In order to cut the necessary haunced mortice and tenon joints etc. I needed to be able to support a piece of wood vertically from the floor. The odd construction of the 100E activating leg lever means that there is no clearance. Using it scrapes the timber in passing. There are work arounds of course, but it is irritating nevertheless.
@TheWoodgineer
@TheWoodgineer Год назад
Yup still using mine despite the few flaws. I think the larger one will solve most of my issues but it is heftier to carry around.

That banana looked great! The jaw pads breaking is shit. A bit of soft wood bolted to it would also do the trick. Buying new ones seems crazy.
@TheWoodgineer
@TheWoodgineer 4 года назад
Aye being asked to buy new ones was a bit of a shock - the 3D printed ones are holding up well though and I suspect wood ones would work great! :)

Excellent review, thanks. Just got one. The clamp system does not work at all (the clamping foot is swinging at all times) Could I have a faulty one or is it my brain collapsing inwards?
@TheWoodgineer

It’s possible it’s just not set up right - I can’t get to mine right now but I do recall the peddle being a bit swingy at first.

@DaveGDesigns

I’ve got a set of these since the first makers central and I think they’re amazing for what they’re designed for the clamping force is top notch and I find mine are super steady. I still have the original jaws in mine so not quite sure how you managed to break yours. If I’m honest I found the review a little confusing you say how good they are at clamping which is the only job they have, you’re impressed by the size they can clamp and apart from the broken pegs on the rubber jaws you’re only other complaints were that they can’t hold your weight which I can’t see why they would and you didn’t set the leg up correctly. So realistically the only real fault you have is the rubber jaws issue yet you wouldn’t buy them again?? Super jaws for me gets a B+ this review video gets could do better 😝
@TheWoodgineer
@TheWoodgineer 4 года назад
I do wonder though if they changed the design at some point or there has been a faulty batch as I've spoken to a few people who've had exactly the same faults I have and a few people that didn't and find them amazing! Either way its been nearly a month without resolution of the issue with their customer service other than "go buy replacements" which isn't great. Personally I think your(and others, you're not alone) confusion also stems from the fact that I am confused 😜; there were faults, there is poor service but at the same time is a brilliant clamp that I couldn't do without.

@@TheWoodgineer It could be that there wasn't enough plasticizer in some of the jaw pad batches making them brittle.
