It's now 2023 and I still listen to Triumph on RU-vid, along with alot of other 80's bands . My favorite era and always will be!!!,Rock on everyone 🎸🎸🎸
@SpaceLord2025 while auto tune wasn't used till mid 90s..there was and has been dozens of studio effects used since the fifties ....your exaggerated typing aside ..Phil Specters wall of sound in the 60s is a good example...Triumph was a solid rock band of three very talented musicians ..full stop
I used to listen to Triumph all the time growing up (i'm 53 now) and I still listen to them. Such a talented band and great music to be able to listen to during your teenage years. Positive message without being too preachy about it.
Rik Emmett Possibly the greatest combined Lead guitar And vocalist ever sapru singer And absolutely great great Guitar player I seem triumph Twice in the eighties And their stage show was 2nd to none When is the rock and roll Hall of fame gotta pull their heads out of their a** and put triumph in Rock and roll Hall of fame it is well overdue...
Ron Ditchen absolutely agree with you! There is no guitarist with a voice anywhere close to Rik’s and no vocalist with his virtuoso guitar ability! Nobody!!
Well said.. not only could Rik sing higher than most female singers, then and now, he had a ton of soul and feeling in that range. Not to mention the incredible guitar playing..all at the same time FLAWLESSLY!
I was at this concert. They were way ahead of their time with the use of lasers (all green, as I recall). Finding this kind of thing on RU-vid is a treasure.
Very cool. I wasn't at this particular concert, but I did see the Thunder Seven show. To this day, it's THE best concert I've ever been to. Their use of lasers was incredible!! Not sure how they did what they did with them, but I've never seen it done since by any other band. "ahead of their time" is an understatement. Absolutely amazing show! I still listen to their music.
Agreed.. amazing footage. They were my first concert in September 1980 Hamilton Place Ontario. I won front row tickets from CKOC. Harlequin opened the show. Amazing concert I will never forget.
Great band on vinyl and better live. Oh man the good old days will never return. Too bad the glory hog Gil Moore and the music industry had to ram it all into the ground. However Rik has a good presence here on YT and he shows a lot of wisdom for young (and old) musicians that we can take to heart. He is happy and very much keeping his music alive. Saw them on the SoK tour in Texas in the early 80's and will never forget it. Incredible show. Saw them 10 years later, in Texas again, without Rik (who had been replaced with TWO guitarists) and they were not good....at all. The Magic Power was gone from the band as it left with Rik.
Many groups either loved the Spectrum or hated it. The ones who gave us our moneys worth; they loved Philly and we loved them. I recall Iron Maiden in 1986...they did 3 or 4 encores and that place went nuts. The Spectrum had great sight lines and most importantly, she had a Spirit about her. Hockey teams and basketball teams did not like to come in to that building. My fondest memory was 1976 when the Broad Street Bullies kicked the shit out of the Russian Army team. That was legendary! We loved Triumph, Rush, Yes, Maiden, Megadeth, Blue Oyster Cult and many others because, they left nothing on that stage after their shows. They knew that we in Philly can tell when somebody was just mailing it in.
Saw them a few times in the late 70's they were ahead of their time a bit with the lasers and flash pots and explosions but don't ever estimate their musical chops they were really really good live!
Saw them in '79 in Fort Worth Texas. Ronnie Montrose and Gamma opened. I thought Triumph is going to have a hard time following that act. That's when I realized what a really great fkn concert was. They were full blown energy... 🎛️🎛️🎼🎛️🎛️
@@SmackWaterJack001Great place! I saw Judas priest there in the lower balcony, right in front of them on the Scream For Vengeance tour. I didn't realize how great those seats were. Wo. Of course that's back when people lit their lighters for encores and for priest they were lighting cups and throwing them in the aisle, smh, so they were literally going to burn reunion down but other people started stomping them out and cussing a lot at the people doing it but it was a great show. People can get pretty stupid drunk in mass 😀 Wasn't long after that you couldn't even smoke in there and then they started having concerts at the Coke a cola starplex (outside venue). It's called something else now...?
@@rustytimetraveler Yeah, it was a great place for a concert.. I grew up watching concerts there too, and at Starplex also, including the Screamin' for Vengeance tour too !!!. Probably saw 50+ concerts there., until they tore it down in November of 2009. I was at the opening night of the Coca Cola Starplex too... Rod Stewart opened that venue, and, he also opened it for the next Spring season again the following year, I was there too. Those were the daze, friend, those were the daze... ☮️
@@rustytimetraveler Did you see the Priest Firepower tour ? I saw it twice in 2 years time. They came back through Portland the following year and I just had to go see them again... (Oregon, where I live now)
17 Duran-Duran fans gave this a thumbs down as of today. Considering I've been head banging to this for 40 years I am compelled to give this a thumbs up. My apologies to the 17 sweet boys
Saw them with white lion opening. Second row. ‘87. Awesome! They all sing lead and harmonies. Power trio. Rick Emmett is a great guitar player, writer and musician
My brother and I were at this show! So were a couple of my cousins. We love us some good heavy rock in Philly and the surrounding area. (We were born and raised in South Jersey.) I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find this video.
Glenn Hecker I’m in pitman but was in Woodbury back then. I think I was at this show. I have to check my stubs. I saved all of them. From the tower to the Mann and dobbs on s st and TLA and even the troc and electric factory
At one point in time I had a chance to be a roadie for this group and I still love him to this day what I was was I wasn't because I had to go overseas but this group is still incredibly wish they were still around because of their music being incredibly insane
Thanks for this mbet, I'm seeing alot of fresh Triumph material showing up on youtube from you, and I really appreciate your hard work man. Original stuff, thanks!!
Saw the Rock n Roll Machine tour about 1977. I was leaning up on the stage, (back when audiences could be that close to a stage). Rik Emmett was one of my early guitar heroes!
I saw Triumph many times being from there home town of Toronto Canada. Gil Moore was the inventor of the pyrotechnics and laser show back then thats why Triumph was ahead of there time no other bands could put on a show like them.ZZ Top had a great laser show but they picked it up from Triumph. Im so proud to have one of the greatest of all time bands from my home town 💥"TRIUMPH"💥
Thank you so much Canada for producing some of the best rock trios. I'm not sure what's happened to music since then, but it's definitely slipped several notches. I guess there's good stuff out there, it's just not mainstream anymore.
Best Canadian band,,, personally before Rush, April wine, the guess who,,,, triumph band all about positive music ,, and the technicalities and music writing skills
I wasn't at this particular concert, but I did see the Thunder Seven show here in Canada. To this day, it's THE best concert I've ever been to. Their use of lasers was incredible!! Not sure how they did what they did with them, but I've never seen it done since by any other band. "ahead of their time" is an understatement. Absolutely amazing show! I still listen to their music.
This was the thunder seven tour .I was at this show ..in May 85 ....they played .. with yngwie malmsteen on the sport of kings tour in oct.. 86..I was there as well ..sadly this would be last time anyone in Philadelphia will ever see this band again in this area
I was at this concert with my father! What a terrific flashback to see! Still a fan and followed Rik all the way thru his solo tour! I’m 53 and this band is still very important to me!
Seen triumph at the tower theater and the spectrum ,a couple times , with mountain and yngwie , rik Emmett , has the highest range ever , nobody can hit those notes , , blinding light show , !!!!!!
The best band live. There was know band that had a spectacular stage production than Triumph. It’s going on 40 years now that I first so Triumph on MTV.
back then it looked awesome but compare to now, miniscule. miss those days.. never thought there was so much inner turmoil within band. wish they could put it aside need to reunite Id see them again
Thomas Lindberg - they are back together as friends since 2008. They see each other a couple of times a year. Plus- there doing a Documentary called Lai it on the line. Bangor films are doing the documentary. Plus they just had a contest to go up to meet the band and hang out for the day. Only 150 were invited out of thousands that entered. So there still active but not touring. Plus Rik has retired this year.
I was there we had tickets for the Phillies game watch 2 innings left got tickets 3rd level last row was worth every minute of it mountain open the show they were awsome also
I liked Triumph, but by Thunder Seven the decline was in motion “The ghosts of Woodstock still haunt the next of kin”…………that’s Spinal Tap lyrics right there

Ok in 1987 Triumph was just as big as Rush....i prefer TRIUMPH TO RUSH...but Triumph imploded....i tell people how big they played stadiums in thé states....when they mention tragically hip...i mention thé Triumph
I seen this show in Moncton , it was the night before or after Halifax show I can't remember . It was my first ever concert I loved it, so the next one I seen was Platinum Blonde and I was like wtf is this crap ...kicking around there giant beach ball in there spandex shaking for all the girls . f this I left after 30 min lol rather stick a pencil in my eye that to watch that .
