Remember Canada's other legendary power trio?
Rik, Mike and Gil invited me to the famed Metalworks to chat about what they're up to lately ... where those looking for en education in the music industry can go ... and they shared some stories from the road.

No matter what they decide to do in the future, you can't take away what they accomplished together 30+ years ago. Long live Triumph!!!

Absolutely. Especially live. If you ever saw them live, you were hooked. Legit better than studio. They amped it up big time at their concerts.

I saw them at the Tangerine Bowl( Orlando,Florida) in about 1980.The other bands were Sammy Hagar,Z.Z. Top,and i think Nazareth. My boss in Burlington Ontario was a friend of the guys in Triumph.I mentioned this to the front security guards and they confirmed that i knew and worked for their friend. They took me on stage b4 the shows started and i talked Triumph into letting me introduce them to about 25000 excited fans.Quite a show.I got really drunk, met Susan Foster from Orlando and had a great time.Classy bunch of guys.Regards from me in Canada 🇨🇦.

Jimmy Winn You are so right. When this fence got mended the world seemed just a little more ok again. The songs were always positive and so were the live shows. When Rikk was on the outside it just seemed wrong!! And thank gawd that the videos here from that bad time are either gone or just hard to find.

That was AWESOME! To see those guys being buddy buddy in the same room on the same couch again was and is so satisfying, because look at all the INCREDIBLE music they made together. They belong together, and that's all there is to it. If they never play together again, I'm just glad to see my childhood heroes having salvaged their friendship, because their friendship is where all my favorite albums, and basically the soundtrack of my youth, are rooted in.

It has to do with testing. Radio stations test the hell out of music in order to hit the right demographic for their audience. If it doesn't test well, it doesn't get played. Classic Rock radio has a tight play list and their gold library isn't very deep. Love that song too, by the way.

I love the fact that some of the bands personal travesties have been reconciled. I've watched these guys since "Rock and Roll Machine" tour (Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada) , Saw "Thunder Seven" in Fredericton N.B. Canada, and have been listening to their music since the very first album. Power Trio is an understatement as to what these guys are capable of. My hat is off to all three. Wish you would tour again. I am a drummer myself and know's what it takes to entice an energy out of an audience to warm the fires. You guys got it Hands Down. Respectfully Yours, Perry Calder.

Big Triumph fan from way back but I see the same pattern here that contributed to the demise. Gil just takes over and does all the talking. He disagreed with Mike about his primary point of the economy and he cut Rick off when talking about the trio idea and platform. He took 75% of the talk time while the other two sit there and take it. He feels he is a natural leader and I get that but Rik was Triumph. Without his work they would never have seen San Antonio. Gil being a bull all the time is why they are no more. I saw them in concert on the SOK tour and he did the same...he did most of the talking and Rik did most of the singing while Mike master-classed that bass. Watch their Us Festival performance and tell me who Triumph is and who it is not.

They have nothing else to prove and I respect their choice. I saw them they were starting doing smaller venues like memorial auditorium in Chattanooga. They did some cool tv promos and me and a bunch of friends that played in bands together were hooked. Great show great musicianship and the song they were known for was rocky mtn way. Then a great string of albums. Many of the local bands would cover 5 or 6 triumph songs. I still love them today. The Canadian rock bands really were strong at that time 1978-83. My bands played half our set list with Rush, Triumph and Judas priest (not Canadian) because they all had live albums that were great and we had seen them all live. If a band didn't sound good live we lost a little respect for them. 2 examples in that era were Aeorsmith and Blackfoot they just didn't sound good live but had good studio albums .

Im just seeing it now, and its now 2019 going into 2020. BUT if they havent yet? I would like to encourage them to stop the lolly gagging, and have a REAL talk together, and decide wheather or not they REALLY WANT TO BE TRIUMPH AGAIN???? and if they do? then NO MONEY OR OTHER OBSTACLE CAN OR WILL STAND IN THEIR WAY! SO PLEASE! FOR THE PEOPLE! AND FOR YOURSELVES, MAKE IT HAPPEN! DO IT... never surrender! follow your heart! hold On! remember the MAGICE POWER you have!!!! : ) : P you can have a great light show IF YOU SUPLY YOURE OWN LIGHTS... Im sure if you offer a lighting company a good price? you can buy your own lights in bulk! KISS has the most outragious stage show in terms of lights, smoke, and bang.. you dont really need all that. and at this point in time, just being there, and being triumph, and giving the people old and new, the TRIUMPH EXPERIENCE?? WILL BE MORE THAN ENOUGH! you guys ALWAYS played your hearts out and did your best right? so, who can ask for more than that?????? : / all the best to you guys.......... ps. you really had something special together as triumph! and you touched alot of lives with that specialness! think of THAT! and just be YOURSELVES .....

Well..., like it or not, I will stand behind these guys 10 times out of 10. They are the real thing as opposed to that Randy dude......... What was his name again (just kidding Lol...)? On more serious note, these three guys are next to, if not parallel with another Canadian trio "The Rush". Not to take away from anyone of them, Rick (aka Rik) Emmett was and still is the one who established band's sound with his stratospheric vocals and outstanding guitar playing. Be it heavy rock, metal, lyrical ballad, even jazz standard or what have you..., Rik could cover it all. *The Triumph* is most certainly the most underrated of old Canuck bands but still going strong continuing the legend of The Band, Rush, or those youngsters (What is their name again ?) Oooh something... berries... Lol... ?
