Glad to hear that your channels are safe, I would have been sad to lose them. The new exhaust looks and sounds great. Triumph's pipes are not over engineered, they are unnecessarily over complicated. Keeping it simple has always worked.

Nice system, would like to hear it with the DB killer. I grew out of noise a long time ago. The Bobber Black is a lovely looking bike, but the complexity makes the Enfields more appealing. Looking forward to the Super Meteor.

Brilliant clear instructional video as we have come to expect from uncle Stu. The sound of the new pipes is fabulous. It's a funny old world where the manufacturer has to jump through hoops to meet regulations but once the vehicle is in private ownership we can just chuck it all away! ? 🤔

Personally I would recommend keeping removed systems in storage, They're already expensive and they may be worth their weight in gold someday. They don't currently test emission systems on bikes where I live, but they do on cars, and managed to make it retroactive.

My speculation is that Triumph elected to use the H-pipe box style cat for better gas flow and muffling potential. I had a 1988 Moto Guzzi LeMans 1000 when new, and it had a similarly curious and complex looking H-pipe configuration under the engine. I replaced the ugly monstrosity with a simple stainless steel H-pipe. It was then that I discovered that OEM box full of pipe restrictions and baffles; this allowed Guzzi to place less restrictive baffling in the actual silencer bodies. After the h-box was removed a meaty (but not overly loud) v-twin rumble replaced the previously neutered sound - and I had to up-jet the carburetors to account for a flat spot due to the reduced 'back pressure'.

What a complicated job! but really well carried out and a great result. The air must have been a little 'blue' at times during the process though... 😁 I'll point my brother in the direction of this video. It will give him a nice warm feeling, as his 2012 'Steve McQueen' limited edition Bonneville is of the 865cc air/oil cooled variety 😊

Motone have done a great job with the Bobber exhaust system. I was surprised to see how complicated Triumph had made the original system. A good instructional video on the changeover Stu. Well done. On a separate matter, I have had a look at the 350 Classic and was wondering if the rear brake pedal can be adjusted down into a position more like the Interceptor. I don"t use the rear brake that often but would find the position of the pedal uncomfortable to use on long downhill runs on wet roads. Three cheers for RU-vid for finally coming to the party and helping you sort your channel out. Wednesdays and Fridays wouldn't be the same. Cheers

Hi Stuart ….. Nice informative video 👍 One thing That I’ve picked up on, when you put the link pipe back on, If there is enough room it would be better to put the clamps on the back edge of the link pipe this way The threads of the clamps will not pick up all the shit coming off the road

I think one reason for Triumph having the cat under the engine was to have it closer to the engine than it would be in the silencers, thus bringing the catalyst inside to a hottter temperature quicker so it could work better, thus being better for the environment.

I swear to God I just don't know what it is the more stuff you do to that Triumph bobber the more you make it look like my 1965 TR6 with a bolt on hardtail. I have a friend carburetor extension on the monoblock and I have a fin primary cover. I do like my hinge tail Harley fenders and my Harley fishtail pipe but other than that the two bikes would look almost identical. Of course mine is a real british-made Triumph with a Kickstart and a Magneto. First kick bike the kind you win best on. I ride all over the State of Florida and all I have is a pair of pliers and a master link to connect the chain if it breaks I don't bring any tools with me and I am known for circling Lake Okeechobee for a day trip. It's a shame all the old fish camp for you got a real group of sandwich or all gone and now you have fake Frozen God knows what the $15 sandwich. My hardtail with the solo seat with springs is one of the most comfortable bikes I have and there's a lot more comfortable than my more modern Sportster.

They wanted to make it extra difficult to remove the emissions trash. Unbelievable! I do have to wonder how much extra the rider had to pay to have the bikes redesigned and fitted with this emissions gear. What was the additional cost Triumph built into the cost of the vehicle over what Motone supplies? My last Triumph was a real Triumph and a BSA twin riding n a Triumph basket case 1973 rolling frame. I preferred the BSA motor frankly.
@larryprice7775
@larryprice7775 2 года назад
Maybe, but the fact the cat-box can be unbolted from the exhaust system might suggest it was intended to be removable by inquisitive owners. Contrast this with post 2015 Harley Davidson machines: The catalytic converters are either inside the silences (and therefore small and restrictive) or inside a box that is an integral part of the fully welded exhaust system. In order to remove them, you have to cut a window into the box, grind out the catalytic matrix, then weld the window closed again - far more difficult and time consuming. I wonder what the Triumph would sound like if the cat-box was replaced with a simple H-pipe?

United Kingdom bikers don't know how lucky they are. You can remove, fit any number of either purely aesthetic, or functional parts by third party manufactures..I will explain why... Here in Spain we have what is known as the ITV. same as MOT in UK. The main difference is it is completely independent from garages/dealers etc!..The ITV stations are in various locations in and around towns/cities. They are notoriously hard on anything that is not OME. changing the exhaust is a No, No. fitting a tail tidy is a No, No. items like rearview mirrors and rear seat cowls can and do cause problems. As a general rule anything that isn't original brings forth possible failure. I know because it happed to me a few days ago. I removed my slip on exhaust... even though it was etched with an EU compliance number..However I made the mistake of leaving the 'Tail Tidy in place. One minute into the test the bike failed, it went no further...not OME... I remember you made a couple of interesting videos regarding possible legislation fitting Third Part Parts being stealthily enacted..By the way Bike sounds great....enjoy while you can. The faceless bureaucrats are at work thinking of more ways to restrict your pleasure ....Let the above be a warning of what might come in the future.

Hello Stuart, can you pass MOT with this silencer? Here in Germany they would rip you in pieces riding with them…
@maijo2597
@maijo2597 2 года назад
Is it not the case that in Germany no replacement part for a motor vehicle is allowed unless it has been certified under the relevant approval scheme, either the EU Type Approval scheme or the German domestic scheme? The two relevant directives will be emissions and noise. In the UK, whilst it is illegal for certain products to be sold unless they are approved and carry a homologation mark (e.g. tyres), there is no legal requirement for a replacement motorcycle exhaust to be certified. As the fuelling map is not altered the fuelling will still be set to run stoichiometric (which is actually only needed for a three-way catalyst) and with the lambda sensor still in place there should be no excess CO or HC WRT the limits for an MOT test, which are only at idle. Obviously they will be higher than if the catalyst was there but also remember that the three way catalyst is especially for removal of NOx and AFAIK that is not measured on an MoT test. So if no homologation is required and the emissions at idle do not exceed the limit for the MoT, that just leaves the noise. I had a look online and I found this nonsense: www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-motorcycles/8-exhaust-noise So, take the bike to an MoT with a deaf tester and you'll be just fine. Joking aside you might want to ask the tester first if he or she is OK with it because these days MoT failures are recorded, aren't they? Maybe you don't want a prospective future buyer of the bike to be able to look up that it has at one time or another failed the MoT due to the exhaust noise?
