What a great solution! I have the same Mustang seat and backrest on my Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic motorcycle and it’s very comfortable. I’m 66 years young and a back rest is a must for my old bones. Great work on adapting it to your new Speedmaster. New subscriber here and looking forward to more videos on the Triumph. Ride safe.
Thanks Ramblin, I appreciate the support. Triumph videos might be a little delayed as I'm doing the Sportster history set at the moment (depending on how they're recieved, that is). Anyway, thanks again, Chris
Love the thoughtfulness behind what you did well done. As I now look at that grab rail I can imagine other metal railing shapes folk could come up with to attach a pad using the same two fixing bolts. Thanks again for such a great clip. Best regards from New Zealand.
New Speedmaster owner here! I too am looking for a rider backrest option. Is it possible to flip around the Triumph pillion backrest, like you did the grab bar, and make it adapt? Cheers.
Hello there Donn - well, that's a interesting idea. I don't know if it is possible as I've never owned a passenger back rest - but, logically, it would fit the same, wouldn't it? So, maybe, it'd be worth a try. I'll have to look into this! Cheers, Chris
Great thinking outside the box, well done. I kept the "Grasshopper" backrest I had fitted on my America, thinking I'd probably need it on my Speedie, but have found no problem with my back on the 1200. Maybe your back will improve with age..I'm 68!! There was a guy on facebook Speedmaster 1200 pages selling a bracket he made which bolts to the pillion bolt under the back of riders seat, and uses the Triumph pillion pad. Very neat and similar to my Grasshopper. i have the Triumph floorboards fitted, and it's amazing how much they can contribute to comfort, allowing different foot positions. ✌
Afternoon Chris. Great name. I'm not holding my breath regarding my 'back improving with age'. Alas! Harley Couper (below) also mentioned a similar set-up, which looks good. I've gone for the (hugely expensive) Russell Cycle Products option 'cos they make the custom seat as well. The Speedmaster seat is okay, but, coming off Harleys, I find it too narrow... for my lardy backside... (But I am only 58!) The Speedmaster is having its first service right now (Exeter), and I'm having the other bits put on too: high bar cable kit; further forward footrests & bar risers. I'll let you know how it all feels when I get to ride it tomorrow. Cheers, Chris (as well)
All bikes should have the Option of a backrest, i have made backrests for my bikes and it is so nice to have back support. And now i will create a backrest for my triumph bobber, i miss a backrest it is comfortably.
I couldn't agree more Greystash. I have had the welding done on mine now, so I'll post a video on all the upgrades soon. For me, a backrest is essential. :-) Cheers, Chris
I have a 2019 that came with the smaller seat as standard, if you're interested in selling the comfort seat once you get a new one, let me know. Happy to take it off your hands. Great vid btw!
Morning Rodrigo - thanks for the comment. I do have the comfort seat, but I more-or-less destroyed it getting the latch fitting off. (I had to drill the screw out so it's a real mess underneath. Also, you cannot re-fit the latch now - which is essential.) Sorry mate! But they do turn up on eBay. Cheers, Chris
