Ive had my bonny about 12 months & spent most of that time trying to decide whether to fit short guards in an effort to get that look, but always come to the same conclusion as you with using it all year round full guards just make sense. Im also due for tyres & the trailriders have been at the top of my list so its great to here you've been happy with them. I always look foward to watching your videos, keep up the great work!

Hi Matt With the Quadlock mount, it has a spring like action to lock phone in. As you mount your phone in landscape, if you rotate mount 90 degrees, the two longer parts will be above and below the phone, you kind of press them with thumb and finger whilst rotating phone 90 degrees, it then releases no problem. When you first put on it wasn't oriented correctly, hence you couldn't press on longer parts to release spring tension. All Quadlock mounts have a lever to press to release tension, but this one which I have also, you have to press them longer parts. Hope I've described this correctly. Love your vids. Regards Alistair

Hi Matt - enjoyed this update. Now I finally know what a fender extender is. And that chain oiler is a revelation to me - I commute to work all year on a SV650 and given the state of the chain I just took off the bike I really need to maintain it better...
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
I’d very much recommend one of those chain oilers, they’re really solidly built so I think it’ll last over a few different bikes. The other good thing is you’re putting the oil onto the chain when it’s warm which I think is better.

nice review matt. this year i try the Bridgestone AX41S F (scrambler) at front and the AT41 R at rear. they look nice and offer a little gravel ability. lets see how long they will last. and yes - practical things often dont look so smart, but in every days use they are the better choice. this is why i didnt remove my rear fender. my little wife-passenger is very thankful for that at rainy days. :D

Great catch up I also fitted the fender extender which is a must works super at keeping muck off the bike however I was scared to drill into the mudguard fear of getting that wrong so opted for plastic weld which u simply mix together and 6000 miles later still holds grand. Also great advice for tyres as I’m due an upgrade soon thanks for sharing. Buddy 👍🏻🏍️👌🤓🙏

I hadn't thought about using some kind of plastic weld/glue. I must admit I didn't enjoy drilling the mudguard, but I treated it like drilling a ceramic tile and triple checked everything before I made holes 😁

@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
Hi Simon, glad to hear you like the channel. To answer your questions, the numberplate is a 8x6 (which seems to be hard to find on ebay now), the screen is from Motone Customs and the light, I'm not sure what it's from because I bought it from a breaker on ebay, then I had to buy all the different parts to make it fit and work separately.

Hi Matt. Thanks for the new video. I like what you’ve done with the quad lock setup - how it’s sitting dead centre. I’ve got the 2019 Diamond Edition and currently fit the QL handlebar mount just to the left of the handlebar clamp, then use an extension bar on a ball mount to get me dead centre. The end result is ok, but ideally I’d like to mount dead centre and lower. Are you using custom built clamps to allow your setup? Cheers, Sean.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
Hi Sean, I have the Motone Up and Over bar risers fitted, so that gives me a clean gap in the middle of the bar to fit the Quadlock.

5:00 Hi Matt, love the bike, i like the standard look of the t120, i have a 2022 hlack variant. Can i ask a few questions 1- What screen do you have, and do you find it helps. I am about 5ft 10 2- Have you changed the rear mudguard at all and how have you attached the number plate as the mudguard looks like the original one. 3- Tha pannier rails are they the triumph ones I wa interested in your thoughts about tyres, think I will change from the phantoms when it is serviced in October, finding them okay but feeling i need something a bit more confidence inspiring All of videos are awesome,love watching them Best Regards Chris
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
Hi Chris, The screen and the pannier rails are both from Motone Customs. The screen is more for aesthetics than function, I have my headlight set lower than normal so for me it really doesn’t affect the airflow in any way. The rear numberplate is just attached to the stock numberplate bracket, I’ve just removed the reflector part. I did at one point have a different rear mudguard from Motone Customs, but I believe it’s no longer available. For tyres, if you can still get them I would very much recommend a set of Avon Spirit ST’s. It’ll feel like a different bike with them on.
@palerider4015
@palerider4015 3 месяца назад
Another great watch Matt. Between the weather and state of the roads, frustration does seem to be the order of the day. One question I wanted to ask…..I’m assuming the tyres on the T120 are tubed judging by the spoked wheels fitted. Have you had any punctures and if so how problematic has it been for you to effect repair at the roadside ?
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
Don't get me started on potholes! 😁 Yes the tyres are tubed and it's probably the Achilles heal of the bike as there's no way to fix a puncture at the side of the road. The bead of the tyre isn't possible to break by hand so you need to get the bike trailered away (I got three punctures in my first summer!). Some folk have done tubeless conversions which seems a good way around it, but I'm yet to do that myself, though I'm not against it.
@palerider4015
@palerider4015 3 месяца назад
@@ClassicRides Thanks Matt. Interesting to know. If you do decide to go down that route, would be great to see how you get on. Have to say, the tubed tyres have put me off from getting a Bonnie. Love the bike otherwise, but the thought of having to wait at the roadside in weather like we have recently experienced, in order to get recovered has proven to put me off. Ride safe

Always interesting to know what other riders are doing with their bikes (especially ones as lovely looking as yours!) I also got the fender extenders, though mine stuck fine with sticky pads and is still solid years later, but perhaps the Speedmaster shape fits exactly? Who knows. I wanted to ask a question, if I may: What do you do/think re. ambient engine/exhaust noise? I have been playing with DJI Mic2 wireless transmitters-receiver and with foam wind blockers and little dead cats on GoPros and Osmos and insta360s and have used separate recorders like the Zoom H2N in the past and, though it's been 'fun' to experiment, I've frustratingly found that using just a chin-mounted GoPro 10 in raw audio mode with a foam wind jammer gives arguably the best ambient audio with barely any wind up to even 50 mph! (Insta306 and DJI don't offer the raw unprocessed audio unfortunately) It's also, of course, the least hassle (apart from a bit of channel splitting and normalisation in editing).
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
I wish I knew the answer, I've really struggled to capture good exhaust audio since I started making videos. Even when I was out making this video I was trying out new ways/positions on the bike (none of which worked well!). I've come to believe that it really depends on how loud your particular bike is and the deepness of the exhaust tone. If you've found a way that works for you then I'd just stick with that; perhaps your particular height, wind deflection from the front and chin distance from your exhaust is all just the right proportions for decent audio.
@Disposalist
@Disposalist 3 месяца назад
@@ClassicRides Thanks for the reply. It prompts a thought: I might try putting my dart screen on and see if it makes it better/worse for the chine-mounted GoPro. It's tricky, yeah. I've heard good results from folks using a wired lavalier fed through into a side panel, but that seems a real faff, unless you tuck it all away and leave it there, so I won't be doing it.

I think you made a good decision with your changes on the bike. I like your Videos very much and bought a '23 Bonneville T120 myself. I also bought the Motone Windshield because it looks so good in your Videos! But i got a problem with it, i tried to polish it with a bunch of politures like Autosol or NevrDull. All of them cause little scratches to the material. How do you polish the windshield? Thanks!
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
Personally I use McGuiars All Metal Polish and some simple cotton stockinette roll. I think it’ll be very hard, it not impossible to polish it with some swirl marks, but I find doing it by hand helps a lot.

The problem drilling the plastic mudguard is they its very brittle plastic and cracks easy. I made my own fender extender.....bit longer than yours and longer that the one Triumph used to sell.....dont thing the do now. Oh how I wish the put a proper mudguard on the front.....with 2 lots of stays. I found the mudguard to flimsy.....so stuck some roof flashing repair tape on the full underside.....its applied with a hot air gun and pushed into place.....fitted so it overlaps the sides....the trim down with a box cutter knife when cool. Work like anto virb/drumming film on the inside the likes of car door panel's....stiffens up the mudguard a treat. I found unsupported,.....the mudguard flexes a bit in the wind with the extender on....more to catch the wind. The flashing tape stops all that. Come on Triumph.....give up proper front mudguards...all that CRUD on the rad and lower engine is horrible. Yes the rear plates on UK bike......OMG they look ridiculous....same size as on a 44ton truck.....just crazy. I tried the small illegal type....but could not find our if it was an endorsable offence.....so I decided to buy my first ever private plate from the DVLA....I need a 5 or 6 digit number. With that you can buy a much smaller fully legal plate.....cost for plate and number bout £280....mine is a 5 digit plate.....H reg.....so looks retro old and so much neater.....only one company I found making those smaller legal plates. Give you a card for your wallet to show any cops who dont fully under stand the law on plates....there are some it seems. But there is no min size on plate....just digit size spacing and borders....got to have the supplier details and post code.....and its got all that. It was my birthday present. Great to have a new vid from you Sir.....always great to watch.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 3 месяца назад
That's great Nick, I've been tempted to go down the private plate route myself. But I think for now it'd be a very petty policeman to pull me for the plate as it is. Royal Enfield seem to be the only manufacturer making proper functional mudguards for their bikes, it's a shame more don't follow suit.
@nickaxe771
@nickaxe771 3 месяца назад
@@ClassicRides Would like to think so Matt re your plate.....but already been done once for a number plate prob on my 50 year old Landrover...I fitted a B/W plate 6mths before I was allowed to....it has them now....the same plate the cop did me with. The other thing I like about my new plate.....you cant tell the bikes age.....it starts H3 and the next 3 letters are fist middle and end of my surname. Private plates never interested me.....but its the size that does.....its possible my legal plate is smaller than yours. I still haven't found out if number plates offences attract an endorsement.

Hey Matt, it looks like you've tucked away the Bonneville for a while but I was hoping for some advice on where you put the oiling end of the Cobra unit? I like where you mounted the reservoir but I'm trying to figure out where to run the tube...? Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Hi Nick, I have to admit it was a right pain trying to find somewhere to fit the pipe as it won't go where the instructions say it should. In the end what I did was I ran the pipe down around the right hand outside of the sprocket cover, then just before the bottom there's a gap to route the pipe inside the cover. From there I took it back up to the top left of the 'sprocket area' where I managed to dangle the pipe (with a zip tie) over the top of the chain just before the sprocket. My thinking is the speed of the chain will cause the oil to fling off, then rebound off the inside of the casing all over the rest of the chain and sprocket. Seems to work ok for me, but it's a pain to do and you'll need to cut the pipe to the right size. There's a also a longer pipe available apparently, which has helped some folk get the dripping end over near the rear sprocket.

No these are just the original mudguards, painted plastic on the front and metal on the back. The previous ones I had on were polished aluminium from Motone Customs.

Used Avon Trailriders on my Yam XT660x for years, (recomended by Manhattan Motorcycles in Sheffield). After a trip to The Alps I had zero chicken strips without really trying. Avon nor Triumph would say they were OK for my 2019 Speed Twin, so I went ahead & fitted a pair, same size as XT. Transformed the bike, much more planted on the road than the Pirelli Rosso 3's, and they look a lot better. Brilliant tyres. Sadly I don't think they are available at the moment, since the UK factory closed.

Good vid Matt, even with the lost footage. A lot of the bike changes we make aren't successful due to the conditions we live in Sunny southern Spain or California would be a lot different. Life in Kentucky, USA given the mountains is always a test of endurance. 4 seasons of crap. I've used fender extenders before there were fender extenders. I made my own from old inner tubes and silicon glued them to the rear of the fender. It kept the engine clean and never came off. Ten years later I could buy them ready made. Yeah, I'm old. Tires, when you find the right ones you like buy a couple sets. It takes a few to decide. Most lights are china junk. Clearwater's are quality USA made. Denali's are well made but use chins components. Others much the same. I like the rack, low and fitted looking. I have a Hepco Becker for my R9T very similar performance. You can use it for what it's for. Cameras, PITA. Quad lok, try a Peak Design. Next time, Take care ride safe. Sunny warmer days are coming. Have too, the days start getting shorter in less than three weeks
