I've been asked a few times for a rundown of my Triumph Bonneville T120 and all the modifications I've made, so here you are...
If you'd like a list of all the parts I've fitted, you can find one at www.classic-rides.co.uk/the-bike
I realise I forgot to mention a few bits in the video, so I've listed the missing parts here for those that are interested:
* The front fork springs have been changed to TEC progressive springs with adjustable top nuts.
* Motone Up-and-Over bar risers.
* Dresser bars, these are Chinese made ebay specials, they're holding up extremely well, not a spot of rust yet.
* Motone Pannier Rails
* K&N air filter
* Motone Extended Gear Shifter Peg
* TEC adjustable gear shift lever.

Thanks Steven, I did go too far at one point but it made me realise that I wanted to keep the bike looking like a proper Bonneville, it’s just enough at the moment. Obviously I’m biased but I say you should buy some panniers 😁. Hope the tail bag is doing a good job for you!

It’s nice to have some background info on where you are riding too. @@ClassicRides yes of course i did. i´m still looking for my "queen of the hearts" on the used-market, while still driving my honda cb sevenfifty and my honda vfr 800 interceptor. for the last "one and only" a couple of weeks ago, i was a little bit too late at the store and someone else made the deal. she doesn´t have to be the beautiest, because i have no garage for my bikes over the driving season. only two or three months in the wintertime i can put them under a warming roof. my hondas seem to be bullet proof enough to manage that. hopefully, that triumph offers a similar built quality. ;-) :D i would like to take the t120 as a daily driver cross vienna at work and back and also for touring with sozia and luggage. first i had only eyes for the black edition, but when i saw your silver one, i thought i could change my opinion... :D :D after my two week testride last year i´m still in love with this bike. could you tell me what mileage you have on your bike? did you have any technical issues since you bought her? greetings from vienna and hope you excuse my bumpy english - i got a little bit rusty since schooltime. :D
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 2 года назад
@@rramirrezz your English is very good Onkel, far better than my German! 😁 So far I have ridden my bike about 14,000 miles. The only problem I’ve had is when you get a puncture, you cannot fix it yourself so you have to be rescued and the bike returned home or to a garage that can change tubes on spoked wheels, which in the UK is surprisingly few. Other than that my bike has been perfect. The black bikes do look good, but I personally prefer shiny things and I feel as though it’s easier to keep clean. With the right sprays and waxes, the dirt just slides off the metal surfaces. I think a T120 would be a great stablemate for your other bikes, I hope you find ‘the one’ soon!
@rramirrezz
@rramirrezz 2 года назад
@@ClassicRides of course - punctures you wont get with this spoked wheels and tubless ones from alpina or kineo are very expensive. this is the reason, why i first had a look at the speed twin with its 17 inch tubeless wheels. but she is a roadster and offers less passenger-space and luggage mount possibilities. the t120 is the better allrounder. and to be honest - a classic bike should have spoked wheels...should´nt it? ;-) :D

Hi Matt great insight into ur bike👍 I have the same issues with the motone indicators filling up with water, I also find them dim, may change them to LED soon. Also plug for your bags just bought the sling bag and the pannier for my street scrambler and absolutely love them. The sling is turning into my go to bag for everything. Try Thornton hundred for a rad guard my street scrambler has 1 and my wife’s street twin we have no issues with them so far and only £50👍. Ride safe brother.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 2 года назад
Sad to hear you’re having the same issues with the indicators. The small hole I drilled solved about 90% of the problem, but I think the continuing water damage will mean new indicators will be needed, shame really as they look great. I’ll definitely have a look at Thornton’s rad guard, £50 sounds a lot more reasonable! And I’m super happy to hear you’re liking your bags, I use the sling for lots of things too, not just biking, it’s a great little bag.

Thanks Paul, it has engine bars on already actually, I just for got to mention them in the video. The bars are copies of the Triumph Dresser bars so they mount very high, not sure how useful they'd be in a drop to be honest, I think they look good and are better than nothing.

Thanks Maarten, glad to hear you’re liking the videos. I don’t know if Motone do that exact mudguard anymore, it’s called the Longreach rear mudguard. Might be worth emailing them and referencing my bike just to make sure, as the other rear mudguards don’t really have space for both the light and the grabrail. Sam at Motone knows my bike so he’ll be able to tell you if he still does that exact one 🙂

Hi Matt Very interesting video . Took your advice and got myself some pro prep. Now I don’t own a Bonnie myself, but find increasingly tempted to get one. Couple of questions….do you find maintaining the chain a pain due to the position of the exhaust. Presume you have to remove the end can to properly get at the chain ? Also what mounting system do you use for the panniers and are the bags waterproof ? Ride safe 👍
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 2 года назад
Personally I don't find the chain too much of a chore to get at, there are places where you can easily place a chain cleaning brush, and for adjusting the tension a lot of people will say you have to remove the end cans, but you if you have an angled 12mm and 13mm spanner it's easy to do with the exhausts in place. The bags are waxed canvas cotton so they're not 100% waterproof as no waxed cotton is on its own. They're very water resistant though, so I carry a couple of backpack covers just incase it really starts to rain hard. The panniers use a leather strap mounting system that be done in a couple of ways, there's a video on my website that shows how they mount in more detail :)
