Canadian rock band Triumph on the Canadian show "What's New" that originally aired the third week of March of 1982. This outstanding documentary follows them from the studio recording the Allied Forces album to the tour supporting that LP release. This is one of the best documentaries on the band that I have ever seen, and it features lots of rare footage of interviews, concert footage, and in the studio scenes as well.

@@edwinjahnes2739 I would never dismiss Mike and Gil's contribution but Rik brought something to the band that went beyond basic blues-type rock. Triumph would have been very different had Rik not been brought into the band. Just look at the Triumph record, Edge of Excess, to see what Triumph was without Rik.

Rik alway was amazing and had me wondering how he could sing and play the guitar so well (at the same time) and he humbly admits that he knew he had a gift, and there is no substitute for talent

I became a Triumph fan back in 1982, i was in sixth grade. I washed and detailed Mom and Dad’s cars on a Saturday morning and got five bucks. Went into my brothers room and stole $5.00 in change, jumped on my bicycle and rode to Kmart and bought Allied Forces, I was hooked. I love many bands and forms of music but through my life I have tried to turn people onto this band and their amazing sound and albums.

1978, Triumph actually played at my high school in Etobicoke (BCI). Full light show, on stage in the auditorium My neighbour, Wayne, was the school's social director and managed to snag them in for the show. Believe it or not, not every seat in the Aud was taken! Great, but deafening, & blinding light show.

By the time the video came to its conclusion, I almost felt as if I would need to get up to press STOP and REWIND. Took me way back. I was just starting High School when 'Follow your heart' was released (1984) and that track helped me get through some difficult times. Later on I would discover some of their older music. Oh man, the 80's were such a great time! Best decade, ever!

Great band and no one writes music like Triumph! Notice how a successful band functions in the way the members each describe the business. They were business minded, music minded and knew the inner workings of a record company and their demands upon the artist. Clever guys and they put their fans first and with their incredible talent they surpassed the demands of a record company by staying focused and in control. Too many artists fell for the “ Sucker Deal” : “ Just sign here boys and you’ll make a million.” No entertainment lawyer, no business sense no independent promotion no helping themselves with publicity and management so they fail. Triumph triumphed and were with great individual business acumen. Aside from all of this, their music is fail proof and that’s what makes Triumph, Triumphant! Thanks to Rik, Gill and Mike for their contribution to our receptive ears! Triumph!

So, Triumph was the second concert I had ever attended. I had seen Boston, as my first. Boston 1978- Triumph 1979. I remember seeing a commercial on WICU-TV out of Erie, PA. I took 1 look at the lead singer and told my 2 male friends- we have to go see this group!! We got tickets to the show for the Erie County Field House, as it was known back then. Oh, if I could just go back and relive those years. I was 15. I saw Triumph again in or around 1982. They played at the old Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh, PA. I have seen a multitude of concerts over the past 42 years and with much diversity! I would have to say, they were one of the best!! Thanks for the memories!!!

These guys were true professional artists and put out great albums. Some of the comments that they were underrated I would disagree with. They were huge in the States for touring in the 80s and were constantly played on MTV. I think they faded badly in the 90s because of lack of touring and they broke up soon after. Grunge came in and hard rock bands faded. You have to give Rush props because they kept touring through changes in the industry and that kept their fan base involved.

Triumph were a big band and were very respected by their peers. However, due to a geographical curse, they didn't reach the commercial level that they deservingly should have. Yes, I will say it. Being based out of Canada (especially at that time/pre-internet) was a curse.

Not only that, but Canada has no clout with music critics who also double as Rock Hall of Fame gatekeepers. But Canada isn't alone, because the same bias from the West Coast music snobs is also directed toward Midwestern bands. Both the Midwest and Canada are forever accused of not being places where "good art" comes from. Its no one fault they came from Topeka, Kansas--or Flint, Michigan or Mississauga, Ontario--or Winnipeg, Manitoba--but here again, geography is a curse to the "hip police". Rush only made it in, because there was enough rabid fans who would have threatened the rock hall with death threats. Unfortunately, fans of BTO, Styx, Guess Who, or Triumph have no such large following

So, at the 24 second mark when the host comments that it is the third week of March, 1982 and the copyrights at the end of the program show 1982, it's all fake? This video was shared with Rik Emmett himself on his website discussion board and he recalled it being shot shortly after the Allied Forces album was released and that the clips of him at home were actually taken at an apartment that he and his wife were renting when their home was being renovated. Sorry, you're incorrect...this was all shot in 1981 - 1982 and did air in 1982.
