I'm quite sure that my Stag has had a replacement commision no. plate at some point. The Comm No. is "760" but it could be "76 O", there isn't a discernible space between "7" & "0", it's also a manual-overdrive car but the O/D could have been fitted later. Paint is listed as KPV, which doesn't match up to your description at all ! V5 states that it was registered Aug 1st, 1970.
My US Stag was built during June of 1972 and has LE followed by the number and then UBW. You had mentioned that U was on later US cars. Might I assume the BW is for the Borg Warner 35?
