Mine went off during an MOT when they did the brake test! It is good to wire it into a hidden switch as an immobiliser.

Agree totally with you Tony its these little details with their simple mechanical engineering that make the cars of this era so fascinating and ideal for DIY maintenance. You can also pull up the cap of the unit manually and so use it as a rudimentary anti-theft device.

Always wondered what these looked like inside, now I know, helpful video.

Very interesting but I wonder, wouldn’t it be better installed horizontally in event of a crash. This seems to test the vertical axis. Go over a big bump and it could set it’off

Yeah, removed mine first month I had the car after contacts made for intermittent FP operation. (Listening to crickets while I wait for the barrage of abuse from "It has to have/Triumph put it there so/will fail MOT if you don't.......insurance company will " etc etc 🙂.) I have had countless Brit cars that had elec fuel pumps and no safety impact cutout. My two Jags never had them. Good enough for Jag, good enough for me. Here, the people doing the rego inspections don't look for them/accept that you don't need it (as, like I said, every other car of that era with elec pump doesn't). But if I was going to worry about it; (and like I initially considered); an oil pressure switch system like many track cars have is easy to hook up. Have a prime switch, or "runs when starter runs" primer; then once oil pressure comes up, pressure switch makes relay, runs FP. As soon as no ign, OR engine stops = no fuel. Or refurbish the orig switch. I remember mine being a pain (I always give things a go) so I removed it. In fact, not removed - it is still in the car, but has a jumper over it. I did that in 1993........

Constructive criticism here, I do like your videos, very clear, good camera work and very instructive but you do tend to repeat yourself rather a lot.

@@ArryTheStag Phew! So glad you took that well, I almost didn't send it but I put myself in your position and thought if I'd made the video would I want to know. Keep up the good work.
