Triumph Stag Test Drive 

Those multigear ZF automatics were developed to match the torque characteristics of diesel turbos, which on the early ones had a useful range only between 2.800 and 3.200 rpm (I exaggerate, but one sees the point). Something similar happens with a petrol turbo, not so exaggeratedly. But there's a reason for the 911 GT3 - no lag, no peaking, no asthma at high revs, just big pull from 2.000 to 7.000, the characteristic (if not quite so sportingly) of all naturally aspirated petrol engines. That includes the Stag, which therefore doesn't need seven gears.

Sounds good, makes going for those errands all the better, sometimes I somehow forget one thing and have to go out again. OH what a shame!

Excellent video :) They've been my favourite car since, well, not too long after they ceased production. As a kid, there was someone who lived above a local shop who had one of the factory purple ones (forgive me, I'm sure many folk will know the specific colour name) and that *ALWAYS* made me stop and admire the amazing lines. This was in a street which also had a Jensen Interceptor specialist workshop, a big '60s Cadillac, a ratty, but tuned, Dodge Charger and various other vehicles of interest, but with all that competition, it was the Stag that would hold me in place while I gazed in envy. 1980s surburban London was a far more interesting place for a developing petrol head than it is now. There are others of comparable beauty, but none quite have that indefinable quality that elevates the Stag to it's position. Not sure I'd ever be able to restrict a drive to just residential roads though, I wouldn't be able to resist a quick blast along something faster just to hear that unique roar. You should have visited some more supermarkets for toilet rolls, just as an excuse to spend more time with your beloved. We have the same problem here in Sydney ,too.
