Bought the 1200 Rally Pro a few weeks back, absolutely love it 😍 every ride I do I love it more. I know it’s a great bike as I took one to Switzerland last year the one with the 30lt tank rally explorer, however I prefer the Rally Pro 20lt tank not as top heavy. My only niggle is the road noise from the tires on the rally at 65-70mph but I’m changing to Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2’s as I ride mainly on road and more of a 95/5 sport touring tyre. The screen is one of the best I’ve had on a bike, on motorways in the high position takes the air over your head. Seat is super comfy, seat height is rather high but just got a low heated seat that’s also super comfy. Glad you took to it Rich 👍

I’ve had mine 6months now and done 5k already absolutely superb bike and just the job for this week’s little trip to Italy and Switzerland. Can I also say I had a little slide on some diesel and the Triumph engine bars did exactly what they are supposed to do with no damage to the bike

Glad you liked it in the end. I took the 1200 GT Pro out for a test ride last October, and didn't really like it. I didn't think the t-plane crank worked well with that engine (the previous Tiger 1200 engine was turbine smooth), and also thought it was too tall (still think that). I took one out again for a half-day test ride in April this year, and after about an hour, loved it, so much so that I bought a new one when I got back to the dealers. I've since done a trip to the Italian Alps on it (great fun) and am really loving it. As a former owner of the previous Tiger 1200 (too top heavy), and Tiger 900 GT (great all-rounder, but not ideal for me over long distances), I think this latest 1200 is nicely in between the two...they've definitely sorted the top-heavy issue, and while being 25kg or so lighter than the previous 1200, the new one is still a very comfortable bike. Good video/review - thanks!

I was lucky enough to be 1 of 2 test riders to put the first 10,000 miles on the very first prototype back in 2019 and I really wished they had taken our feedback and advice and not changed it half way through the project to the T-P crank because it was a far better bike before they did , as personally I think it’s far to vibe for pleasurable touring , but it’s definitely the best looking explorer to date , but as ever another enjoyable review 😎🤘

100% Agree about that T plane crank, I much prefer the smoother 1050 Tiger & Speed models. They should have fitted the 120 degree 1200RS Speed motor & junked that heavy shaft too ! 17" Wheels would have helped too and call it a Tiger Sport or Sprint 1200 RS 👍

These are actually nice vibes imo. Unlike the annoying 2 cylinder engine vibes the t-plane's are pleasant and not even there if you are not too sensitive about everything

I went to my local triumph dealer because I had set my heart on a Rally Explorer 1200. They had only the Rally Pro to test drive. I did find the bike a bit to tall. I had it in the lower seat position and I could nearly flat foot it. But with luggage and the wife on the back, because I am wanting it for touring I think I would have struggled a bit with all the weight. So my thought was I would have been better with the GT Explorer, And I am 5.11 The bike was brilliant it handles really well even with the 21” front wheel. When you take it over 4 thousand revs the bike sounds lovely. The hill assist was brilliant a good idea never used one. The up and down quick shifter was smooth has anything. But at slower speeds I found the throttle very jerky no matter how gently I was with it. I did 40 miles on the bike and found a lot of vibration on my feet especially on my right foot and the vibration I felt through the handle bars. So when I got of it my feet and hands were tingling. So having one has a long distance touring bike would be no good at all. If it was not for the vibration and the the throttle being so snatching I would buy one tomorrow, Really shame
@Neil1052
@Neil1052 Год назад
Again, 100% agree, I expected to love it but after 20mins my hands were numb & tingling! Especially noticeable if you're used to the previous smoother 120 degree triples 👍

I’ve ridden a friends Tiger 1200 GT. Explorer and thought it brilliant in many respects. Fast , comfortable and handled really nicely. Only possible dislike was the engine felt very agricultural and clunky. Also had a vibration that I think maybe an issues on long rides. I’ve a 1250 GS and I was very surprised that the BMW felt a lot smoother than the Triumph. I’m not 100 percent convinced that Triumph should have gone with the T plane crank on this bike. Believe me, prior to the ride I was convinced this was my next bike. Not sure now.

Mine is the 2013 Tiger Explorer 1200 with Michelin Road 5 tyres and almost 50,000 miles. Of all the adv bikes out there it's probably the one I like the look of best. I've had a few issues with it: snapped the drive shaft (it went right through the side of the swingarm!) needed a new ignition barrel, exhaust repair, new heated grips and recently has developed a random intermittent stalling problem on downshifting. Having said that, it does go like stink, has huge pannier capacity, all day two up comfortable and very good handling. With it being of a certain age it's cheap as chips to insure third party. Trying to decide whether to keep it or trade it for a BMW K1300S which, although less practical, looks like a lot of fun...

I had a 2022 Rally Explorer as a courtesy bike from my local Triumph dealer in November while my 2014 Explorer XC was in for a key program. Absolutely loved the riding position, selectable rider modes, mirrors with the blind spot warning was great, handling was brilliant even in damp weather on muddy roads. The only thing i wasnt too keen on was the t-plane crank, that vibration was very off putting although saying that, i wouldn't say no if anyone wanted to give me one, I didn't want to give it back, it was only after i returned the bike and collected mine that i realised how much taller the Rally Explorer was than my Explorer XC, I almost felt cramped on my bike. Being 6'5 the Rally Explorer was the perfect height for me.

Hi Richy...nice to see you at the ABR....I have the gt explorer...fantastic bike...I chopped in my rally explorer because it was just too tall...and I'm 6'2"...the gt is 20mm lower..easier to clean wheels..better tyres...no one in the real world takes a nearly 20k bike off road...gravel tracks ok..if you go into off road mode...drop the damping down to zero...then go back into road mode...it will lower the preloaded and makes it even lower....

Cracking review Rich thanks , I`ve been pondering for a while now about changing the Tiger Sport was initially thinking the 900GT Pro but when this came out it really spiked my interest , just unsure about the seat hight for me being a bit of a short ass , but deffo going to test ride one at some point.
@Neil1052

If you have a Tiger Sport, you really really need an extended test ride, there's a lot of existing owners (me included) just can't get on with that T plane Tiger motor 👍

As a long standing Tiger 800 owner and member of the Tiger 800/900 forum I can assure you only 1% of owners have any positively about Tourance Next tyres and they are always ditched at renewal for better. It is on record that some new owners even have their dealer swop them out before even collecting their new bikes. If you could get your hands on the same bike with the likes of Michelin Road 6 fitted I bet you'd be even more happy riding testing the bike.

As ever decent honest review Richy 👍 however i still think your earlier review stands true & honest 😊 As an existing Triumph owner & mostly road rider of several models i was severely dissapointed with the lumpy T plane motors in both 900 & 1200 Tigers ! The 120 degree 1200 Speed RS motor without its heavy shaft is a peach & a much smoother nicer quicker and precise bike to ride, its a big shame it lacks any luggage carrying capacity ! I think the 800 & 1050 triples will be the last Tigers many existing owners will buy ! The 765 & 1200 RS are spot on but not exactly European tour friendly ? I found both rally pro versions to be even more vague & less confidence inspiring at speed. That said i get it will please the masses of Charley Mcgregormans out there. But still think theres a 17 inch wheeled 1200RS engined 120 degree triple Sprint or Tiger Sport missing from Triumph's range! In the meantime ill be keeping my current models & saving for an M1000XR 😅

You definitely seemed to be having an off-day with the 900 GT Pro review. Completely out of character with all the other outstanding and entertaining reviews you do. Lamb Chop Rides, TMF, and your other cotemporaries pretty much all gave it great acclaim. I'd love to see that one revisited and updated if at all possible. Thanks for all your hard work and great content which is much appreciated !

Agree. Apart from maybe using it to do 300+ miles a day if you're a big bloke (me!), then I think the Tiger 900 GT is possibly one of the best all-round bikes you can buy.

Have the Rally Pro overall great bike love riding it very comfy even with the lower seat I had to put on it, it is quite top heavy, but it’s great to ride love the exhaust note when you give it a handful. It has been back to the dealer for the clutch fixes, new fog light, new gearing in the screen as it kept sliding down, hate the stock Metzeler Karoo Street 3 tyres

Richy, I took out the GT Pro a few months back, really enjoyed it. I did think it was a bit top heavy. What did you think of the Explorer with the additional fuel capacity? After a recent incident, my Triumph Thunderbird is no more, so am looking to replace it with an adventure bike for those longer distance trips, and the three you've mentioned are on my shortlist. Thx for the review. G.

I've had mine for nearly a year and I'd agree with everything you said. Dynamically, it's superb. The downside for me has been 6 (yes, 6!) warranty claims in less than a year, which has been so disappointing. I do accept that I might just have been unlucky with mine but that really has been a problem. As of now, all those bits are fixed and it's running well.

Hi Richy. When you did the review on the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro and didn't like it. i was gutted as i had one and loved it. Last year I traded it in and got the Tiger 1200 GT Pro and then this morning on my phone pinged up your vlog. I thought now this is going to be a bit negative and couldn't wait to get home and watch. when you started i thought o yeah here we go and then you came good. to be honest when i got mine i thought it was not as good as my 900 GT Pro, but now having the 1200 almost 10 months I absolutely love it. i was discouraged having the explorer by Triumph as it is a heavy beast and compared to the 900 the 1200 GT Pro is 50kg heavier, but i have got used to it now. Put the bike in sport mode and i deny anyone who didn't have a dirty grin on their face. Good honest review as always

Fantastic bike, but I'm still trying to convince my wife it's the right decision 😀 think I can persevere till autumn though (till I've seen the New BMW GS) 😉

I went from an 18 V Strom 1000 to Tiger 1200 GT Pro, they are indeed rapid…….but as I found out in Germany their top speeds are pegged to 127mph (same as my old Strom just gets there a lot faster). Clutch recall / anti stall recall / have been the main issues, it does weep oil from the oil filler hole when you’re making progress (easily remedied with a bigger rubber O ring). The ride and performance is second to none they really handle, and the damping is 9 stage adjustable in any mode so you can tailor the ride to your needs. Menu system is tedious, hoiking it up on the centre stand (heavy) and first gear is impossibly high (God knows how a Rally behaves off road). All in all a good bike, mine was a bargain sub 14k ex demo with less than a 1000 miles on the clock. Not sure I’d own one without an extended warranty however.

Actually liked it so much i thought of replacing my R1250GS with it so i arranged a longer test ride with it... There are a couple of small differences between the 1200 rally and the 1250GS and a few more of those differences i feel was in favor on the BMW compared to the Triumph so i am keeping the Beeemer.... But the Triumph is getting closer in the competition.
