One of the first steps needed on any DIY Triumph interior resto is installing the wheel arch covers. It is also one of the most difficult parts to get right. Follow along as we install the first cover and its foam padding. Let us know what you think in the comments!
The wheel arch covers must be attached to the arches using spray adhesive. This means it is very unforgiving. The method we used was to glue the foam to the arch first, and then glue the vinyl to the foam.
Instructions for the TR4 covers are difficult to find. Hopefully this video is helpful for anyone out there attempting a similar project. The same type of covers are used on Triumph TR3, TR4, TR4A, TR5, TR250, TR6, Spitfire, and possibly others.

Fantastic video, thank you for doing this! Just used your method on my TR6 wheel arch covers and came out great. Modified slightly on the second side and decided to glue half the piping seam first, then half the first panel before folding the bottom back to apply more glue, get the rest of the seam and first panel down before then doing the panel over the top. Really helpful video though 👍🏻👍🏻

Yup, looks good to me! Funny how the "big" TRs had those extra couple of touches...like the foam beneath that vinyl piece where as on the Spitfire, there was no foam. You're spoiled!

Oh yeah, we have the "plush" 1/4” of foam under there 😂

The install look great guys! I actually did these wheel arches on a tr6 about ten years ago by myself and it WAS a bitch. Having a second set of hands while trying to smooth out would have been awesome. You might try using a heat gun prior to the gluing to help stretch the material.

Thanks Ken! We did stretch it a little with a heat gun. Was helpful for sure, though we were very cautious not to burn the material.

Fantastic job ! It’s really looking good ! The tan goes so well with the red ! Looking forward to the other side . Would heat have worked out any small wrinkles ?

We heated it a little (off camera) and used a wooden rolling pin to try flattening it. It was helpful but did not entirely remove wrinkles.
