I used to work as a mechanic at a B.L. dealership in the early '80s and these cars always had problems (US models), it's nice to see that they have fans but my love stops with the TR6. Nice tribute.
Love the way it looked and it was indeed a harbinger of the '80s-wedge look cars. Mostly domestic (U.S.) GMs like the Chevy Celebrity. Not so much for its front-end styling, rather the "cut-off" rear end. My buddy had a TR6. Loved that too. It's a shame the TR7s & TR8s were thrown together by BL. That government-run operation destroyed everything it touched. Not only the mechanicals of cars, but the reputation of all those proud marks. Oh well. I wish I had a TR8 anyway. Cool cars!
Had a new 80' silver convertible (tr7) in the 80's. The TR8 conv looked the same, except more expensive, and had a much more powerful engine. As I recall, you could only buy the non-convertible TR7 during the 70's, and then the conv came out in 80'.
I did see an article mentionning the 1979 date after posting! I purchased mine in summer 1980, and the above brochure was the one I was given before buying - I could not decide between a bright orange/red with black top, or silver metallic with black top, and I finally took the silver!
TR8 had the Rover 3.5 litre engine either fuel injected or carbbed depending on what Us state you were in only 18 or so ever produced for the uk market 2500 in all so very rare fast and will definetly put a smile on your face
im working for a man that has a tr7 70s modle, wondering if its worth anything or a waist of time needs work been sitting for a bit and weathered, cars in good shape tho
+Jolene Gustafson it a Tr8 yes its worth a bit maybe 10 - 15k if its a FHC and original it could be but they are not that colectable yet a good rare FHC might get 4 if its a special it could get a lot more they are well thought of in parts of North America and there are collectors in the UK like most clasic cars a car with interesting history can make more than a general run of the mill production model chasis number vin number can quickly give you an indication of that If it is too far gone then no unless its an special as i say above
If you still want the TR fix go to triumphtr7 com loads of your fellow stateside owners on their. take a look at the Map and check out where they all are.. TRIUMPHENT isn't it :-) John
