In this video we do a deep dive comparison into the differences between trivex and polycarbonate lenses. Though they have many similarities, there’s a few key differences. Both are ANSI Z87+ impact approved and support lens add-ons, but the trivex has a couple extra useful features. To learn more about these two great lens materials, watch this video and check us out through the links below!

Correction: Trivex lenses are marginally thicker than polycarbonate lenses, especially at higher prescriptions. They are, however, lighter and clearer!

Thanks for clarifying that!

Yes! Thank you for the clarification. I really need new glasses in the worst way ever! The film on mine is rubbing off, they're not anti-glare, they're plastic lenses so they're heavy on my nose, and the nose pieces are both broken off from me having to rip them off my face every time I have to see something close up and they got caught in my hair because sometimes I have to wear them on my head to prevent me from losing them. I'm literally legally blind without them. It's illegal for me to even drive without them. My vision is 20/400! Oh God I hate my glasses!!! I want to get some new ones last year but I couldn't afford them. Geese!! It's so frustrating!😲😬🫣😤

Thanks for clarifying. Your chart at the end showed polycarbonate having a refractive index of 1.59 which is higher than trivex at 1.53. So polycarbonate lenses would actually be thinner. Some of the other differences like lightness are so negligible for most people that they won't even notice. Another factor is that lens performance for things like impact resistance etc depends on what other coatings are applied to the lens. Trivex may well be the best choice for most people but many variables can impact the final performance of the lens.

this is the video i was looking for after wondering if I over paid for trivex when I could have gone with polycarbonate. I think it was worth it but also great to hear that polycarbonate does provide significant protection as well!

Happy to help!! You can't really go wrong with either, but trivex lenses really do have some noticeable advantages that make them worth it!

I’m so confused everywhere I read about trivex lenses they say they are actually about 10% thicker than polycarbonate not thinner? Is it significant? I’ve heard not really but depends on your prescription! I love this video on them as I’ve never heard of trivex lens material before I just ordered a pair of glasses and decided to go with Trivex however I have a very strong prescription and alot of astigmatism as well and now I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake and end up with glasses that are more thicker than polycarbonate 🫣 so to clarify Trivex is actually thinner or thicker than polycarbonate? Would love your input and any helpful info thanks so much!

As far as I know, Trivex is thicker than polycarbonate. This is because polycarbonate has a higher refractive index than Trivex lenses (1.59 vs. 1.53).

@@ashez002 Thanks! That’s exactly what I thought as well, but in this video he says the opposite and says they are thinner which confused me! Thank you for your reply!

@justinbettancourt5226 thank you for the comment and clarification! You are correct, trivex lenses will often be slightly thicker than polycarbonate. Trivex lenses will still be lighter though! And have better clarity.
